The entry forms aren't out yet, but should be soon. So, I know there has been a good bit of interest from various quarters; who's going this year? I'm looking forward to it myself, just have to get the few quid together. Should be a great trip though. Hopefully have a solid DURC contingent this year too. For the curious, the programme of events will be as follows.

    Three Position Rifle 3 x 40
    2 x 60 shot Prone Rifle
    4 x 40 shot Prone Rifle Teams
    Women's 3 x 20
    2 x 60 shot Air Rifle
    2 x 60 shot Air Pistol
    ISSF 25m Standard Pistol
    ISSF 50m (Free) Pistol
    ISSF 25m (Sport) Pistol
    ISSF 25m Centre Fire Pistol
    Service Pistol
    Police Pistol 1and 2
    9mm Pistol
    Practical Pistol
    Sporting Rifle
    Black Powder
    Pistol NRA 1500 Pistol
    Service Rifle

As you can see, there's something to cater to just about every paper-puncher out there. We had a brilliant time last year. The facilities are top-notch, the matches are good and challenging and it's a great way to meet new people, our counterparts in the UK. So, will we have more company on the boat this year?

I might try and make this, it'd be good to incorporate into my training plan. It's gonna depend on whether I can roll a home holiday in though, it appears the Munich-IoM trip can't be done in less than 10 hours, and for less than 300 euro

they're well used to UK shooters Griz, so the facilities exist to borrow a pistol over there with prior notice. You'll even get a choice of pistols and calibres, so come on over. Douglas is a good town.

Portfolio of forms is off in the post today, sent FLOYDSTER my stuff for the PSNI yesterday by express post so that should be handily taken care of, booked the ferry from Belfast to Douglas to Dublin. All that's left is the hotel and we're sorted. Should be a great trip. Hopefully see some of you out there.

Sounds fantastic, now I just need to convince Herself Indoors that we should delay the wedding a bit so I can use the savings to go to the IoM for some of that chocolate cake :D

    Next year!

My own passport's gone off the radar too. Didn't need it last year though, so should be fine. I was told last year photo ID would suffice.

same problem here as sparks has - And before you ask, no, it's not that we're planning our wedding!:D:eek:

No way dC is going to convince his good lady wifey to let him traipse off to the IoM at the moment - But next year.......hmmmmmm:)

Listening to all the lads talking about the IoM and the shooting there, I'm really disappointed I'm not going to make it. Particularly with such nice, friendly, but yet quiet and reserved, chaps as floydster and intershoot heading along too.

Although, the thoughts of getting stuck in the bag of a certain van (you know the one I mean, lads) with iwm and irlconor sends a shiver down my spine!:eek::eek::D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭FLOYDSTER

It does always make a good social weekend never mind the shooting!!;)
There is always time to play after a days hard work!! lol:D

WOOOOOOOOOO there dCorbus  .....lets not tar me with the same dirty brush as Mr FLOYDSTER please!

I'm only a social drinker :p, not a raging alcoholic like our good friend. Another thing is when I'm drun.....happy, everyone's my friend......unlike Mr Nasty .

eh FLOYDSTER....... KILL EM ALL arrrrGGGGGHHHHHH!!! :D

Priority number one goes something along the lines of not losing body parts to the wrath of Her Indoors ;)

Besides, it's our wedding, so we get to do things our way.
ie. two cakes, decent food and a bouncy castle :D
I was wondering how best to arrange the rifle club lads with the air rifles outside for the parade, but that idea was downvoted :D

FLOYDSTER picked up a nice haul of medals. He won the Saturday prone match, the Sunday prone match, the final and the aggregate. He also picked up a bunch of class, 40 shot and team prizes. I think he has something in the region of 10 medals to bring home with him. :)

Ray Kane from Midlands had a good showing in the 3P event. He went into the final in second place and managed to hold on for the bronze despite having a hard time in the final. I think his qualification score was 1117, but I'll check that when I have a look at the full results. He got (I think) 574 on the Sunday in the prone match which was a tough shoot with very unsteady wind. On a calm day or with a steadier wind he could easily have come away with 5-10 points more.

The rest of us had a tougher time of it. I shot 564 on Saturday and 555 on Sunday. :( It wasn't me! had a lot of trouble with his rifle. When I was watching him shoot yesterday he had over 70 misfires (probably a worn firing pin) and ran out of time with 10 shots to go. The two who travelled from DRC also found the going tough, but seemed to enjoy the matches.

I think there were a few who travelled from Ireland for the pistol events, but they were on a different range (which had to have several tons of snow dug off it with a JCB on Friday!) and didn't make the prize giving.

I'd definitely recommend anyone to come to the Isle of Man for the next easter shoot. It's a really well-run set of competitions. This year, they had:

    Rifle:
    • 50m prone ISSF
    • 50m 3P ISSF
    • Sporting rifle (40 shots, any sights, 50m)
    • Service Rifle
    • Air Rifle

    Pistol:
    • ISSF Standard Pistol
    • Service Pistol
    • Police Pistol (2 comps)
    • ISSF Centrefire Pistol
    • Blackpowder pistol
    • ISSF Free Pistol (50m)
    • 9mm Pistol
    • ISSF Sport Pistol
    • NRA 1500
    • IPSC
    • Air pistol

If you shoot any of the above, it's worth trying to make it over. The organisers do a fantastic job of making the paperwork easy. I got my temporary permit back in about 3 working days. They are also very well organised in terms of firearms security. Our rifles are stored for us in an armoury at the range and dropped to and from the port for us which makes life a lot easier.

As soon as the results are posted (probably today or tomorrow), I'll link to them here.

Couldnt have been a much more difficult weekend wind wise!!, everyone struggled and the scores were well down on what would have been expected!;)
Another very enjoyable weekend both competition and socially and a big thank-you to all those envolved in the organisation and running of the events, roll on next year!

I was well chuffed with the 594 on the Saturday and although I only shot a 589 on the Sunday it was second highest score on the day by a point!, so I hope its a sign of things to come at Hanover and Plzen!;)

Hopefully all sorted now!!, I watched him train yesterday after the repair and its like a different person shooting!, he should be well sorted for Sunday at ECSC!!:D

Yeah, I was able to concentrate and all! That wind still made a tit of me on quite a few occasions in the practice match I shot, but all told, given the wind yesterday, I was happyish with a 567.

Even though i don't shoot or compete in 3P/prone/sporting, its always good to see lads going away and succeeding.

Congrats to all who competed, and well done to those that brought home some gold/silver/bronze wear.

FLOYDSTER's not going to say it, but his medal tally is 14, with twelve golds, a silver and a bronze. That was a seriously good weekend, with another Irish bronze medallist in the 3P. For the record, FLOYDSTER's 594 is the same score that got him a 7th place in the Munich World Cup in 1996 which won the quota place which sent him to Atlanta for the Olympics that year. I may well not make the Isle of Man shoots for the next two years, with exams conspiring against me, but for anyone who can make it, it's an incredible shoot to be at. Well worth travelling to.
