    Hey,

I don't know if this has been done before but anyway...I love a good movie that has an ending that makes you go "Whaaaaaa!??". My personal favs are:

    Switchblade Romance
    Fight Club
    The Usual Suspects
    The Blair Witch Project
    Magnolia

Obviously, don't give away the ending\twist as I'm sure we'll all use this to see these movies we haven't seen :)

"The Others" was the best suprise ending that all made perfect sense in rewatching the movie.

For a great twist I am going to mention From Dusk Till Dawn. I do not think anyone who watched for the first time could have guessed what was going to happen.

Really? Twist ending? Or do you mean what happens once they get to the bar?

True, from dusk til dawn is a great film....just a load of fun! pity it contains tarantinos overacting though

One of the best twists I've ever seen was the opening of "Escape from the Planet of the apes"... Totally rescued the franchise & gave it full circle.

The ending to Smokin Aces 2 was not totally expected, but it was good.

The twist at the Titty Twister. Didn't realise the thread was for endings only. My bad.

Not sure whether the OP is looking for twist endings or just unexpected endings but some of my favs:

The Sixth Sense: Ok its a cliche at this stage, but its a bloody good one. Well executed.

The Mist: Love the ending. Really flies in the face of the whole hollywood ending.

Se7en: Another surprise ending. The film even moves away from the Film Noir genre to deliver a tour de force ending. A real sense of helplessness is on display as we realise that even though arrested, John Doe is still in control

The Skeleton Key (2005 - Kate Hudson)

I don't even want to hint at a spoiler for it.

Well unlike most movies the bad guy kills the hero, possibly his wife and most of the other people on screen and then stroll off into the sunset, there is that feeling that hes gona be caught but instead i feel it leaves you with that wtf? feeling,

The End of the Affair has an excellent ending with a twist.

Always loved the ending of Lock stock
the finding how much the guns were worth
. Just for the oh sh*t no way moment!;)

Love the ending of Seven, its subtle (apperently), so subtle my sister didn't realise the seven deadly sins were complete!

The end of the mist was great too.

The ending of the sixth sense and arlington road had me thinking about the movies for a couple of days after.

If we're talking twists, the ending of The Prestige made me want to watch the entire film again straight away.

Can't believe noone's mentioned Oldboy. The ultimate  ending in there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 62 ✭✭JesseCuster

The Usual Suspects is the ultimate twist ending I reckon.

Others which made my jaw drop were:

    Oldboy
    Saw
    Frailty
    Unbreakable
    The Mist

I agree The Usual Suspects just about beats everything. And although people are a bit embarrassed admitting it now The Sixth Sense one was pretty damn good.

Other endings I like that haven't been mentioned: Memento, Psycho, Empire Strikes Back, Ringu, Chinatown, The Wicker Man, Diabolique

Independence Day.... for ending and twist
Who could have known that we would defeat a vastly more advanced intergalactic race with Will Smiths jive-talk & Jeff Goldblum's MacBook!

now you're talking. primal fear was brilliant and the usual suspects will probably be best of all time.

I'm not a fan of huge twists normally but Dead Mans Shoes left me floored

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 604 ✭✭✭Kai

Id add Chinatown to the list, not a twist in the classic but definetly an ending you remember. That is... if you remember it.

    Memento

    The Village

    Identity

    Cant figure out
whether Teddy is really a police officer or if he is actually Leonards wifes killer posing as a police officer to put Leonard off the scent and Jimmy (who Leonard kills at the end because he thinks killed his wife) is actually the police officer. Also can't figure out whether Natalie is actually helping Leonard or further trying to put him off the scent of the killer by giving him the licence details of the wrong JG (John Edward Gammell/James F. Grantz) because she is Jimmy's girlfriend

Not really confused more unable to make up my mind.

You should get the DVD and activate the true time line easter egg. Wait till the tattoo is highlighted and press play.

Primer had a pretty good "twist" and Contender:Series 7. That has one of the best endings ever.
Frailty also is pretty clever comparable to Usual Suspects

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

The Prestige for me, not the
    Bale being a twin
    part but the
machines abilities and Jackman being Lord Cadlow all along
. Its really one of those movies that demands multiple viewings and it gets better every time, its also really hard to decide who to root for between the two protagonists

Fight Club as well, even on the 3rd viewing you spot new
references to Tylers true identity, "sometimes Tyler spoke for me"
    etc etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,977 ✭✭✭Greyfox

Agree with Usual Suspects been the greatest twist ever, Sixth sense, Memento and Fight Club were also superb!

Manon de Sources also has a great twist
