I'd say he is loving his game at the minute, confidence is high so just wants to play as much as he can!

love to know what that feels like :(

Finished the day on 1 under. Pity about the bogey on his last hole.

His "diary" in today's Irish Times makes interesting reading. Nothing terribly insightful but shows a bit of welcome maturity.

Yeah I enjoyed the read. It's a good behind the scenes account.

A link for anyone who hasn't read it... http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/golf/shane-lowry-i-limit-myself-to-one-bottle-of-corona-yes-a-really-wild-night-1.1812766?page=1

At work so not watching it but he seems to be off to a flier today. -3 for 5 holes and -4 overall.

Nice to see Kevin Phelan in at -3. That should see him comfortably in for the weekend.

I understood he had a couple to spare but good that he is playing the weekend. Tight field.

Parred his way around today with three birdies and three bogies. Level for the tournament in 54th place.

Probably a bit drained after his weeks work at Wentworth and Walton Heath.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,244 ✭✭✭rrpc

Started well this morning with eagle, par, birdie but had a bogey on the 4th and has just parred the fifth.

No chance of winning unless the top guys implode but could be a solid finish. Currently tied 38th.

Now 6 under and up to 14th but I wonder when the rest of the field get out will he drop back again?

Finished with 6 pars for a 66. Currently tied 19th. Will probably finish somewhere between 25th and 30th would be my guess.

Finished 6 under with pars on the last 6 holes. Tied 20th now, but Michael Hoey is making a bit of a charge at three under after 8. Peter Lawrie had a -5 to finish at 4 under and Kevin Phelan is -1 after 12.

With current scoring conditions will do well to be top 30, still 17 birdies and 2 eagles for the week.

Finished in a seven way tie for 25th. Not a bad result after the previous week. I presume he's taking next week off in preparation for the US Open.

He's up another place to 73rd now. Hopefully the US Open will see him continue his upward trend.

The US Open groupings were announced today, of all the majors they'll employ a bit of humour with some of the trios.

Therefore, I'm assuming it's deliberate, if a bit close to the bone, that Shane Lowry is playing with Brendon de Jonge and Kevin Stadler the first two days.

    A 'husky' trio.

Shane is nowhere near that level of "huskyness"

Wow, you are hilarious... I'm guessing you went to a special school, because you just don't get that level of humour without being a little special...

So in your book. it's fair game to make light and poke fun at mental illness but it's not ok for someone to inform us of a message that the US Open organisers are clearly making.
    Nice.

They have clearly grouped 3 big guys together. As Denis said, they tend to group guys for reason and as he also said they tend to do some as humour on their part.
Rather than rolling around laughing he even said it was a bit close to the bone.
Maybe you should just boycott watching the US Open?

And for the record, going back to Wentworth when I jokingly said that Shane would probably be at the bar during the rain delay.... This was, as the kids call it, banter.
I won't say it was sarcastic as I could see why people were highlighting it was a concern.
But it was another thing that you got offended by and took up wrong.
A few weeks previously I had defended Shane saying that I didn't think all this talk of him drinking a lot, or being perceived to be drinking a lot, was going to be a major issue.
He was in a slump at the time and I'm delighted to say I was right to say that good things were ahead.

I'm not not putting down anyone with mental illness. Simply highlighting that you have a special kind of humour... I don't particularly like the term special being used in relation to mental health... I was using the term in a more literal sense.

I find your humour disturbing more than anything and still find it unual that you chose to publically laugh at three fat men.

As previously dealt with in this thread, it would be better to discuss Shanes golf than to laugh at this physique...

I hear Carton House have let Shane "go", does anyone know what club he's associated with now?

    a) I'm not a member of the USGA, so I didn't have any part in grouping the three of them together. Take a look around the internet, here, for example, and you'll see that others made the link too.

    b) As PARlance said, I pointed out that it was 'humour' which was close to the bone. Read 'Open' by John Feinstein and you'll see that the man who set the pairings realised he had gone too far one year when, for the US Women's Open, he put together three lady golfers who had all been in therapy.

    c) I was educated through the regular state system, but thanks for your concern.

I see in today's Irish Times that Shane is going to the Offaly-Kilkenny game before heading off to the States for next week's US Open. You've got to admire what a down to earth, normal guy he is.
