Hall has been consistent anyway but think an away Ryder Cup could be too much for him. Surely in the consideration though, can't ignore a player playing to that standard.

Just to correct an error in my earlier post. I've found out that the British Masters is considered a Back 9 event and is worth 50% more points than regular events. Therefore Hojgaard only needs to finish 29th or better in order to move ahead of Shane in the final rankings.

If Hall wins at East Lake, he'll be picked. Players can bully their way into the team, but only in that way. Ludvig winning in Crans last time round springs to mind as well as Eduardo Molinari back in 2010.

In no other scenario will he be picked because its an away Ryder Cup and hed be a rookie. Fitzpatrick has been v poor in his two away efforts but he was much better in Rome, has played a bit better recently and he is a proven winner and a major champion. Shane is almost certainly going to be picked if its necessary.

I don't disagree - Hall needs a big week, he's been so consistent - but mainly based on being the best putter in the world the last few months. His off the tee would be a red flag for Bethpage he is average length & below average accuracy.

On Ludvig - I honestly think last time out he was already a pick before winning & Luke was over the moon that he won so it made the pick more obvious/rubber stamping the pick…

Couldn’t hole a thing yesterday and can’t miss today. Only thing is you won’t keep holing out from everywhere

An absolute magic wand today. He does get a few of these rounds. Although on the other side of the coin, the putter can be the Achilles heel at crucial times. Hopefully, he can close out with a solid weekend and get a big paycheck.

If Rasmus gets his T29th in England, is there any way for Shane to get in automatically? Outside of a win that is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 431 ✭✭GolfPar

There are no Ryder Cup points on offer at the tour championship so no there's not.

    He's guaranteed a pick though.

No more points available. The British Masters is the last qualifying event. Surprisingly Lowry said he didn't realise this until he found out this week he could lose his automatic pick. He was never missing the Tour C'ship.

Rasmus will surely get enough points to sneak past Shane bar a capitulation but both are on the plane. Fitzpatrick actually has a huge chance of winning the British Masters. That puts an end to any idea of Harry Hall, Wallace, Detry etc.

So those ranked 7-12 with Rahm swapped for Wallace are surely picked. Hopefully Shane will bring yesterday's putter to Bethpage.

Be interesting if Nicolai wins the British Masters though

Shane playing well again today. Although I find myself wondering what he needs to do to get more TV coverage. Reminds me of the bad old days when the BBC would only show Irish golfers if they were actually leading.

Needs to be higher up the leaderboard. It’s USA audience so apart from Rory and if you’re not American you need to be at the top. It’s just that. But he does get the feature groups.

Had a chance on back 9 yesterday but just not doing it when he needs that couple of birds to get right in the mix

finished ahead of Hall ,job done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,890 ✭✭✭abff

I didn’t see the press conference, but Lowry one of the picks along with Straka, Rahm, Hovland, Aberg and Fitzpatrick.

No major surprises, but it will be a difficult task to get anything against that American team.

Thought he would have picked Penge instead of Fitzpatrick but apart from that as strong a team as Europe could field.

I think they have a good chance, weakest American team in a while.

Big hometown crowd following him too. I think he's saving the fireworks for Bethpage.

What a shot from Shane- holes out and almost did 30 mins ago too - some accuracy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,112 ✭✭✭paulos53

Eagle for Lowry from the rough. At this stage he must have holed more shots from distance than any other tour pro over the past 2-3 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,203 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Haven't seen much of Shane this year - he is scoring well here considering , his play is remarkably up and down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,557 ✭✭✭Trampas

Then goes bogey bogey par. Par on a par 5 to undo that eagle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,203 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

I assume this is an off day for Shane ?

If not , he did well to get a pick...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,007 ✭✭✭coillcam

His approach game is top-class. Ironplay in particular, just phenomenal. He's 4th on the PGA tour for SG approach. Only Morikawa, Hovland and Scottie are better…

Now if only we could sort out that putter and get him to practice some breathing techniques or mindfulness 😅.

You do realise he's ranked 23rd in the world (only 7 European ahead of him) and came 7th in the points race, just missing out on automatic qualification by a hair!
