A right mix bag from 9th for Shane. Could do well next week with some good dovetailing

topsy turvy final round but top 20 after last week disaster is a decent result.2 shots on par 3s were 50 yards out ,the double bogey looked a mess as well, got lucky with chip in but I suppose going into next week with Rory he will be glad to have a decent 4 rounds under his belt.

Another excellent round by Shane today. 11 under after two rounds and currently one off the lead in solo 2nd.

Big day for Shane. Feels like it’s a shoutout with straka unless JT can pull it background

Would love if Shane can do it. He's been playing super golf this season, a win would be brilliant just to reward that play. And set him up nicely for a big couple of months ahead

Just doesn't win enough....not sure why. A decent paycheck all the same

Damage was done by 18 but that putt will give him the horrors for a while youd have to think. Just too many Sundays like this for Shane in recent history, not getting the ball close enough and putting inside of 10ft very poor. Was there for the taking today, hugely disappointing performance overall.

Not good enough today unfortunately - drove lovely for most of it but not getting close enough and 18 was a bit of a mess

Jesus that three putt was hard to watch

Very disappointing finish. 3 putting from just over 20 feet to fall back into a tie for second was just adding $400k worth of salt into his wounds.

As others have alluded to. He is great tee to green but unless he's close to the hole he just doesn't make enough medium to long putts. Even the short ones makes me nervous when he's over them. Putting definitely his achilles heel.

His driving performance today was outstanding. That tee shot on 16 was the killer though. Too much to go wrong trying to fade it in on that line.

very disappointing for Shane, that finish will sting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,503 ✭✭✭dublin49

he hit a bad wedge on 7th I think and after that it was a struggle, didnt play well enough to warrant win ,18th was awful .

Not sure where his head will be for next week,it wasnt a good finish but he played some great golf this week,

The ‘why’ is because he can’t putt to save his life on a Sunday when in contention. It’s a consistent theme at this stage

Unfortunately Shane always has a big mistake in his locker. That 3 putt was terrible. It cost him a lot of money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,289 ✭✭✭Trampas

Not the pin position to fade in. He’s suffered over last few years with leading and looked today he could get over the line but just bad shots and important times. Just makes it even harder the next time as scars are harder to heal. Rory took a decade to heal his one. He’s probably played his best season ever but that w has not come yet. Maybe next week but purple patches don’t last forever.

Your probably right..I have a an American friend who reckons he's one of the poorest major winners ever..compares him to Ben curtis...nights like this doesn't help his cause

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,503 ✭✭✭dublin49

Shane's Tee to Green play get him in winning situations and his putting generally stops him winning.

Straka Made 110 feet of putts compared to 46 feet for Shane,

wow the comments on that are pretty harsh, is Lowry particularly disliked in the US?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,791 ✭✭✭Motivator

That’s why Americans are renowned for being thick. I’m no Lowry fan, but it’s just a stupid take to have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,791 ✭✭✭Motivator

    He looked straight at her

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,983 ✭✭✭Russman

I don't think he's particularly disliked anywhere tbh. I've never interacted with him, but a couple of friends do occasionally and say he's sound. Haters will probably say he's a bo11ox, fans will say he wears his heart on his sleeve or he's passionate. Potayto, potahto. I suspect if it was Sergio or Hatton in that clip we'd have a different opinion on it.

I do think his caddie should have told him where to stick the golf club when he had his little strop on Saturday though.

Up to 10th in the World rankings, marvellous achievement

I remember when he was turning pro many people not expecting he'd even make it on the European tour. To have won a major and reached Top 10 in world is incredible stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,557 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Think it was mentioned here that he's be a pro in a shop as he would have no future as a playing pro…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,557 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Think it's more what he has won over the years…Curtis has a major and 3 PGA tour wins almost the same as Shane - a major and 2 pga wins (1 being that team evnt)…no doubt Lowry the much better player but he should really have more wins

$5,743,758 earned on the PGA Tour this season so far.

Money is nice but he wants a w. Every Saturday evening going forward if he’s in the top 5/10 he’ll be reminded about not getting it done. I think if he wins again as you never know when someone will have their last win it’ll probably be a he’ll post a score than final group battling it out. A lot of scare tissue at the moment and he won’t like the media reminding him but that’s what the media do

The 18th green caused a lot of problems for anybody who went for the putt. Thomas hit it 10 feet past but holed the return for par. Cantlay did the same and bogeyed.

These are two of the best putters on tour.

In Shane's situation he had to believe that Straka was going to par the hole and had to go for it. You can't just dribble the ball down and leave it short. If you leave that putt short or miss it on the low side it's a very bad putt. Shane hit it past the hole and missed on the high side.
