    Good day at the office

Was his 9th of the day, so obviously calmed down enough to keep a bogey off the card. Nice to see Shane put in a good first round, he's been trending for a win for a while. Hopefully this is his week!

No it was his last hole of the day, he started on the tenth.

My bad, he probably is fuming so, knowing Shane, playing lovely stuff at the moment though

He is playing great. That's why I'm on him to win this week. I mentioned how much I fancy him to do it a few days ago.

It's just that he knows the course and has played well on it before a couple of times. Small greens mean that good approach play is important and he's great at that, small greens also mean you'll miss a few so scrambling is important and he's one of the best at that.

That putt at the end was maddening. Might have left another birdie or two out on the course as well. Playing phenomally well though these days. I fancy him for the Open again to be honest, especially if the weather gets inclement.

True. Despite missing that tiddler on his last hole, Shane’s putting stat for the round was 1.125 shots gained.

watched Shane rd 2,battled well, some good par saves ,expect him to play better tomorrow and still well in this .and saw nearly every shot for once

Yeah it's all about moving day, he's still well there. Concerned that Cantlay is in front though, he'll be hard to peg back.

Cant imagine we will see as much coverage of Shane tomorrow unless he gets off to a flyer,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,708 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Shane birdied the second then gave it straight back on the third with a three putt from about twenty feet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,708 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

And then birdies the next hole. He's obviously in attack mode today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭dublin49

most players under par today so where yesterday par was ok ,today your going backwards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,708 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Shane birdied the fifth to get to -6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,708 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Putter not working for Shane, missed a short one on 6 for par and then a shortish one on seven for birdie.

another 7 footer coming up for birdie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭Scrabbel

Hi irons have been phenomenal today. Two 2-footers in a row for birdies getting him to -8. Pity about the couple of short putts missed earlier.

I have to keep this up it seems.

I don't think Shane can keep it going.

Nice round for Shane, -6, 65. All depends now on what Cantlay does.

If anyone deserves a win for sheer consistency over the last few months, it Shane Lowry bar absolutely no one. Bring it on.

Really good from Lowry again, I'd imagine it's difficult mentally to get going the week after a major

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭Scrabbel

Looking like he may be only 1 or 2 back going into round 4. He could easily have had a 62 today if the putter was hotter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭dublin49

out in last group tomorrow .thought Cantlay would be a few ahead but tough course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

65 with -1.8 strokes gained putting, some going!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,708 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

-7 for nine par 5's over the three days. He was dead last in par 5 performance on the PGA tour a couple of months ago and been very poor for three years. He's improved that greatly and it's making a huge difference to his position in tournaments.

Does he need to get it done soon for him rather than anything? He’s running hot so feels he should get one over the line before the hot streak cools.

Well to be fair in the past he tends to win and go cold after that so I wouldn't mind him saving the W for a more important event.

However, I can't remember his game ever being more consistent so you'd have to hope a win wouldn't knock him off the rails.

Great chance tonight, his play deserves a win but still needs to get over the line, no win since 2019.
