Is that because of the position he finished or the money he earned?

    Money.

    Cash is king!!!

Shane's top 10 finish also books an early ticket to next years U.S open at Oakmont.

I think his big aim was to secure his PGA card a.s.a.p. - delighted for him.

Fair play to him. He does seem like a Golfer who has a major in him too.

Supposing he birdied the last instead of bogeying what difference would that have made to his ranking, money earned and position does anyone know?

A great week all round for him, when Shane claims to like a course you know he won't be too far away.

If he had birdied the 18th instead of bogeying it, he would have finished in a two way tie for 7th instead of a three way tie for 9th. This would have increased the world ranking points he won from 14 to 17 and would have moved him up a further two places in the rankings to 43rd. His prize money would have increased by just over $60k, from $235,316 to $296,158.

Thanks abff, I was hoping he would come in the top 6 for reasons I won't expand on :pac:

Great performance though i'm sure if you had offered him that score at the start of the week he'd have taken your hand off!!

Hopefully he can build again from here and push for top 40 and maybe a win before the year is out.

Moving swiftly along and looking at what's required for our man to play in the US PGA in Whistling straits in August. The only way I can see for Shane to qualify is to win (1) The Open in St Andrews or (2) a PGA sanctioned tour event between now and the PGA championship or (3) under this category .....

The 70 leaders from the PGA Championship points list from the 2014 WGC–Bridgestone Invitational/Barracuda Championship up to and including 2015 Quicken Loans National ending August 2, 2015

The PGA website lists the year to date (2015) table where Shane is now ranked 116, he would probably be lower if you factor in results since the Bridgestone in 2014 so he has an uphill climb to make the PGA in August. http://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.132.html

The top 100 in the world rankings usually get an invite to the USPGA

I'd say his top 10 at the US Open, along having secured his US card for the rest of the year would have got him in anyway.

I think it's conditional status he's secured meaning he isn't restricted to the number of events he can play like he was previously.

One of the big guns now on the European tour, playing with Stenson and Kaymer in BMW International Open.

Nice to see him playing in a marquee group. Means he should get plenty of TV coverage.

He will get his USPGA Tour card when he shaves off the beard and shows some colour [apart from black !! ]

In fairness, wearing the black was in remembrance of those who lost their lives at Berkeley, a nice gesture.

Understood Bus Boy -- and commendable jesture but I am looking forward to seeing how he looks this a.m. alongside Martin Kaymer and Henrik Stenson.
They are all under par early so it should be a good shootout .

No worries Myopia, wasn't having a dig, apologies if it came across that way :-). We all must have jinxed him. Must be post Open blues..

He is playing poor - but smiling.

Not sure if true - but Sky guys saying adjustment needed after US Open.

He is leaving the ball short - very soft, not rolling past hole.

    Hopefully low tomorrow.

Needs to be as "-20 wins here".

Did not get a chance to see it this a.m.
Did Shane change his shirt ?

Yes he did. So please move on an get back on topic... Discussing his golf game.

Yes sir , Mr Moderator , moving on but I still don't know what colour shirt SL
    Wore today in Germany ??
Golf is 90% in the brain and SL might improve further if his confidence was boosted by improved appearance and demeanour.

I hope myopia you are not too short sighted - you do know he just had his equal best finish in a major.

Hope your not one of those illuminous dudes - it makes my eyes hurt.

    Certainly not short-sighted -- Myopia held 4 US Opens in 1898,1901,05,and 1908.
I saw Shane Lowry win the Irish Open at Baltray in the wind ,rain and his dark raingear.[whose wasn't ?].
In 2014 at Pinehurst -- his first US Open -- he jinxed himself by complaining about his draw.
He was drawn with 2 fat boys and missed the cut.
Shane's performance at Chambers Bay was awesome -- tied best European-- Ryder Cup beckons,
Delighted to see him in top 50 in world and I know his coach Neil Manchip is quietly working
with him on his overall approach --- which at this level is 90% mental.
He needs to change his shirt if he wants to win again !!
