If you drive a better car it's usually obvious.

Are there easier cars to drive. I'd say yes. That said no one should be unable to drive the matiz to get from a to b.

None of this matters though. If it's the only car you've got and your not having a problem with it. Then ignore all the above and enjoying being content with what you have.

yep it's the only one i have, I will eventually get a newer one, someday... mines is 00, has had a few dents due to me. its not a matiz, its a lanos, but either way, thanks for the reply

I only mention a Matiz because I've used one for a few days. The Lanos might be better. Someone in work has one, and has had no problems with it over the years.

Thats because Astra's are decent cars.

And Vauxhalls share the same engines with some daewoos so what would be the differences in performance then?

Same engine in different cars does not give the same performance. Diferent weights, different tunes, the list is endless. The engine alone can be tuned to give different outputs. Look at the engine in the Audi TT

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_TT#8N_engines

Lotus were involved in the Astra mainly in the handling and chassis.

Daewo'os are bought by people who generally don't have a clue about cars, apart from putting pertol into it.

they are up there with the accent as the worst cars of all time, plus they cause about 80% of tailbacks nationwide*

also they are about as safe as a 1927 ford t, and would struggle to pass out the most heavily laden hgv (on a good day).

but they are cheap and go from a to b (sometimes) so thats all that matters to some.

    * independent research...:p

I think you can tell quite a bit about somebody from their car. (apart from their first car)

What do you suppose the Daewoo range tells you about somebody?

I would think that only the most uninformed, tight, fashion blinded person could ever buy one..
Good luck with that. Despite all these people declaring that they only use the car to get from A to B, etc etc, remember what everyone else thinks of them.

remember what everyone else thinks of them.

I suspect that a Lanos/Matiz/Leganza owner doesn't care what anyone else thinks of them or their car. Anyway, this thread is going around in circles and isn't going anywhere.

from a purely mechanical point of view. not much. tbh.

From a motorists point of view.. again the same.
On a personal level. I don't like the looks of the car. The interior reminds me of tonka toys.. I've produced more power from farts than that engine ever will...
As for brakes? I feel like i'm stopping a locomotive train!
this is based on the lanos by the way. The scarey thing was how the car wouldn't stay level if you swerved a bit or pulled on the wheel!

By the way. My first car was an Accent.. It was an accident buying it but it was how it happened. They were similar in many ways.
Obviously this car just suits some people.
I Imagine these are the sort of people who think financially rather than functionally. The sort of person who buys the smallest engine size for a larger vehicle and argues there's no need for 'those fancy 1.6's'

    Anyways I can't sleep and thats my 2cents ;)

I had a Matiz for over 3 years and I only bought it because it was cheap to buy and own.

The car was a nightmare, endless problems, hard to find parts to fix the car and not even too economical.

Heater matrix went and in that car it is really hard to fix it and eventually it was not economical to keep the car in the road anymore.

Well I got 34 000 miles out of the car anyway and it only let me in the side of road 6 times:D

i have a ten year old Lanos.

i dont care what cars look like, as long as it gets me from A to B, i am happy.

this car has been in the family for the last 8 years, i have had it 2 years.

Now before this i had only driven Seats/Golfs, i find it has no poke, and doesnt like going up hills, the drive to Enniscorty can be a nightmare and i always have to check if i am overtaking on a hill cos i havent a hope if i am.

now having said all that, the car is fine, i have had no problems with it. In 2 years is has cost me nothing except a service.

if you dont care about cars, its fine. they are cheap to buy, cheap to maintain and get you from A to B, what more would you want from a car?

if you don't care about cars like you said, then a daewoo is for you. but if, like many, you care about style, comfort, safety, performance.... then stay well clear.

Actually Dawoo bought the old Astra (3 generations old now) from the 1990's, not the Astra engines in use in the last two generations.

The mother has a lacetti.. I think its quite a nice looking car.. Its the Plus model with the little body extras...
    817-Chevrolet-Lacetti-Sport-Car.jpg
Its an 05, never had anything done to it bar a few services..

Her previous 2 cars were Matiz, I learned in them and never had any problems with them too..

Have my own 318is now but never have a problem grabbing the Lacetti and taking it for a rip.. It think its deadly!!

To be fair, the 318 isn't the fastest car either...Its a much heavier car.

I think that you can buy big luxury cars for little money too - and I'd rather one of those than a Daweoo/Cherovlet but that's my problem!

I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole but...

...a friends brother has one and has been all over UK, Ireland and continental Europe in it without missing a beat. If you don't care about cars and get your kicks in other ways that's great but there's more to life than penny-pinching in a nasty, ugly car if you can afford better.

In fairness it was rejected on a cost basis and not design. Fiat just didnt want to spend the momey re-tooling the Polish plant where the cincheciente 500 was made so they just pushed the robots to their limits and came up with the Seicento instead. ;):)

In my day we used to lie down on the back seat in such a way that nobody could see us. That said, a lift was a lift. Even a lift in the Escort/Alfa with the fumes coming in from the huge hole at your feet was better than walking. The youth of today!
