Enjoyed it alot myself this year too. Although I did find the overplay of Frosty the Snowman in full force again this time, they must get paid everytime that song is played!

What year was that? The last time the calendar lines up like that was 2014 but I do remember it being a few years ago too.

Still listening here in the kitchen and online in the car, will probably keep going until Sunday just to try hold onto a bit of Christmas for another few days. Just not the same without presenters though.

Yes completely agree as much as I love ChristmasFM without the DJs, Ads and segments it’s just a random playlist and it’s not the same.

The live DJs make it. Their energy is infectious.

did they reach their fundraising target of €1m over 3 years? I think they were close after donation day but I don’t see anything on their website

They’re doing their final tallies now and usually release final results mid to late January.

They certainly hinted towards meeting the 1m taregt towards the end of the run. My gut feeling is that had they looked like falling short they'd have not been mentioning it so much so have a suspicion the 1m target will be reached.

Given they fell short of the €333k average needed on the first 2 years it would be fantastic if they did make up the shortfall & hit the 3 year total.

And on that note, now the 3 year arrangement is finished will there be a new charity partner for 2025!?

Yes I suspect they hit the target alright which will be an amazing achievement given they missed the target the last two years. Also remember one year they sent an email out saying they are so close to target could everyone keep donating, no such email this year.

I wasn't a fan of same charity partner 3 years in a row but I definitely warmed to it in 2024, the 3 years gave the charities time to marinate and get their message across, especially when you see how quick one season of ChristmasFM flies by 3 years makes more sense. I do hope they rotate the charity partners still to give everyone a crack at the whip.

It's exciting though, it means we might get a traditional charity partner announcement in Sept/Oct this year for the first time in 3 years.

The charity partner announcement is something I did miss the last couple of years.

Agree. It was usually their first social media update after the St. Patricks day sounds of Ireland stuff.

Do you think The Sounds of Ireland will be on again this year, with its week's temporary license run on FM? What about Halloween FM (ironically it has been online only, despite the name!)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,659 ✭✭✭✭DvB

    No idea.

Truth be told I never really had any interest in that or Halloween FM, and in the back of my head thought they were both online only, don't remember an FM run for sounds of Ireland last year to be honest, but don't doubt you it did have an FM run.

Either way I wont be listening in to either, I'm only aware of them at all due to being on the Christmas FM mailing list & following them on social media.

For the last three years, The Sound of Ireland (just checked the name there!) has been on FM for St. Patrick's week. While most of the presenters come from Christmas FM, they do have one or two others.

Shows how much attention I gave it so (3 years with an FM run!!)🤣

I genuinely never knew it had a FM run either. Thought it was online only.

I’m same as DVB, I’m aware of them but never listen. It’s ChristmasFM or bust.

Add me to that list- I know of the Patrick's Day station, and I think I've turned over to Halloween FM just to hear a couple of minutes, but it's Christmas or nowt for me too.

Further to previous posts here about The Sound of Ireland, I had a look through this thread and found posts where the FM runs had been alluded to before, including this year!

    great news 😀

Probably about 45 weeks till my tree goes up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,221 ✭✭✭Smell the glove

Please do! They genuinely give me a little lift during the year. I always make a point of saying things to my wife when we are walking such as this day 27 wks away Christmas fm will be on or this day 25 wks away it will be Christmas eve. She used to scoff at me and say give it a rest and I would say to her it will fly and on the said day I would remind her of our conversations in the summer etc. and she would agree it did fly. Now she just says yep won't be long now 😂
