if you met him at some point? One day I'm sure I will meet him and will have an opportunity to tell him what I think of him and what he personally has inflicted on this country.

Keep it to a sound byte, clean and to the point. I promise I will use it, in front of TV cameras if neccessary. But of course anyone can use it if they see him.

    Any ideas?

You wanker, you presided over an unprecedented period of prosperity yet you managed to leave the country in the shít.

You did this by never never never confronting anyone anytime anywhere.

You caved in to every fcuking vested interest and moved the deck chairs around the Titanic, while cultivating a coterie of liggers, wideboys, three card trick artists and fcuking minor 'celebrities.

I really hope someone comes up with a good remark and it gets on the news.

Very unlikely to have any effect on the tosser himself though of course.

"Why did you waste billions of our money" ?

    "You are a coward"

"You were 10 years in power and did nothing"

I wouldn't even bother saying a word to him. I'd just punch him in the face

Get out of our college. You do not now, nor will you ever meet the standards of professor. Your appointment is an insult to the good men and women whose life achievements and services have been honoured with with title before you.

I'd have a few choice words then punch him in that big fat red nose, and say take dat!!!.

Some of the above have already covered most of what I am thinking.

I'd also tell him to go F himself and never ever to run for president. We are already committed to paying you for over 50 effin years and all u did was bring catastrophic ruin down on this nation. U are a wimp, u bought off everybody who got upset, be it vested interests, the IRA, the unions, the banks.

U don't deserve a penny of the taxpayers money. Get Paddy and the lads to keep you u effin bolli%.

I wouldn't say anything to Bertie (I've already met him).

I would on the other hand like to give every single person who voted him into office a smack in the mouth.

Can assure you Les that Paddy and Charlie will drop him like a wet shíte off a shovel as they realise he can't 'look after' them anymore.

That you can be assured of;)

There's a couple I like already, but without the F words. It has to be broadcastable, (to coin a word) and don't hit him. That will only gain sympathy for him. Biggins suggestion for a brief moment and flutterinbantam for a longer rant.

Ah now, leave Professor Ahern alone or that other great statesman Senator Eoghan Harris will be after you.

Say "ah Bertie," with a smile, letting him drop his guard and come in with his big grin for a handshake. Look down at his hand, and back up, saying: "You are a disgusting human being on every level."

    You'd be a national hero.

Well Bertie I hear your still interested in a run for the park . The legal challenges by others and the ensuing delay in relasing the Mahon report wouldnt have anything to do with this would it !

    Why did you betray them?

I'd congratulate him on being a clever snake, because a lot of people seem to think this recession started with ol' Biffo. The previous 10 years have nothing to do with it apparently.

    Spot on.

How in gods name a Dublin college wants to make his a professor is beyond me!
..and there is FF (which he is still a member of and still a sitting td) starving the education institutes, hitting the students/parents in the wallets and more is on the way!

NUI Maynooth has embarrassed itself hugely here. What sort of leaders do they have to even think of asking that reprehensible little man to tarnish its name.

No, he deceived on a massive scale, he followed the people rather than led them, among many corrupt actions he refused to pass basic environmental legislation that would cause expense to his financial supporters in the building industry but which is now costing tens of thousands of homeowners a fortune in refitting, he expressly used fiscal public policy to fuel the lethal and unjustified house boom which we are now all paying for, he bought off people before election time even though he was acutely aware that the state couldn't afford it, that such actions were bad policy.

Like Caligula himself, he openly appointed to lucrative public office sycophants such as Eoghan Harris as a reward for publicly praising him before an election, despite that individual possessing no characteristic that would give service to the Irish people. Talk about giving the two fingers to the Irish electorate. That's even before we get to his blank cheque writing activity as Treasurer of Fianna Foul.

Patrick Bartholomew Ahern can only be ethically and morally repellant to any person who values honesty and integrity in Irish public life.

Yes, I agree. I'd blame the Minsiter for Finance for the boom years. What's his name again....?

    Oh...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that: this is the same Patrick Bartholomew Ahern who told those who were questioning his economic policies before the crash (July 2007) to go off and commit suicide. Classy little fellow indeed is this Professor Patrick Bartholomew Ahern (NUI Maynooth)

Yeah. Of course he's being ably abetted in this fiction by the Irish Independent/Sunday Independent; in fact they're doing pretty much all the work on his behalf.
Their main concern, of course, isn't really the legacy of Bertie Ahern; it's an attempt to cover their arses after they implicitly supported him over the last ten years and did so explicitly before the last election.
Brian Cowen, naturally, is the fall guy in this narrative; all ills can be traced back to his assuming the mantle of Taoiseach.
The sad thing is that so many are willing to believe this and still buy this rag; where they can read the thoughts of the aforementioned Senator Eoghan Harris.

Bertie had a book signing in Waterford on Monday and crowds turned up to it, all fans it would seem.

Headline for the article in the local paper stated "Bertie still has 'em eating out of his hand".

Says it all really. You get what you deserve. It would make you want to cry. I think I'll get a tissue.
