The original is a cherished favourite of mine, so I was worried when I heard a remake was in the works, but what I've seen so far looks promising.
It looks to follow the template of the original.

Yes it's a remake, but Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar) and Ralph Fiennes as Hades and Liam Neeson as Zeus? Absof'nlutely! Leaked posters on this link, looks crazy good. Director is Louis Letterier (Transporter, Incredible Hulk)

    http://www.newsinfilm.com/2009/11/04/clash-of-the-titans-character-posters/

How is guy suddenly appearing - no no, headlining - in these blockbuster movies? He seemed to jump to the top of the foodchain almost overnight.

As for the movie? I'm intrigued about this (even if it looks like they're going for the shouty, 300 tone), the original isn't that great, Harryhausen effects notwithstanding, so maybe they can bring something interesting to the table.

It's similar to when Colin Farrell started headlining movies and gettin roles alongside Willis, Cruise, Pacino overnight - Worthington must have either one hell of an agent or the Avatar role (filmed I think 2 years ago) from Cameron must carry a lot of clout in Hollywood. Can't believe he got his face and name alongside Bale on some of the Terminator Salvation posters too. After this meant to be in The Tourist with Charlize Theron (although Depp might be replacing him) and then a remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Good actor though from what I've seen

Clash of the Titans was always the weakest of that series of stop motion films.

I just hope they leave that crappy R2-D2 wannabee owl out of the fecking thing!

Think this is going to be 'God of War: The Movie' minus Kratos. Don't know how linked it will be to the original. God, I hated that owl!

I don't like it, the original was a classic Sunday film.
Next they'll want to remake Zulu ffs.

From what I read in empire, it seems the owl won't be in it!

I loved the original...so I'm just delighted to hear about this! It's going to be brilliant...great story with all the modern effects. I love Greek mythology, I loved 'Jason And The Argonauts' too. Thanks Speedboatchase for this news:).

It's going to be a Jar Jar Binks analogue this time.

Is it even a remake? I imagine They just wanted the catchy title.

If the posters are anything to go by Medusa and the Kraken feature in the film, just like teh original.
In fact MEGA SPOILER AHEAD, IF YOU DON'T WANT THE FILM RUINED DO NOT READ WHAT IS IN THIS TAG
Judging by one poster it looks as if the film's ending is the same as the original, in that Perseus uses the head of Medusa to kill the Kraken

Probably worthy of a thread of it's own...

But Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger was my favourite of all the Ray Harryhausen films of that era... closely followed by Jason and the Argonauts.

Clash of the Titan's really felt watered down and over kiddyfied compared to the other films which I absolutely loved.

Great film, picked it up for 4 euro in Dunness a few weeks back. Worth every penny.

I quite like the look of it going by the teaser trailer. Good to see Mads Mikkelsen with a sword again, between this and the excellent looking Vahalla Rising. he looking to be in fine sword singing form.

What's the rating on this going to be??

The music doesn't quite measure up to Bernard Herrmann's score for Jason and Argonauts there, does it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,905 ✭✭✭✭Handsome Bob

The music doesn't suit the setting or tone of what the film should be about, a greek mythology epic.

It is just trailer music though. Pretty much run of the mill to have a rock/metal tune kicking away during the trailer and not have it in the film.

Kasdan's earlier script was meant to be R-Rated, but has been reworked by Manfredi and Hay for a more mainstream rating.

What did catch my eye when looking through the cast to see who was playing who, was that there was no mention of Calibos or Theitis, and that Tamer Hassan is listed as "God Of War" which given that Zeus is the main man in the pecking order of the Greek gods, would mean the God Of War would have to be Ares as he is one of Zeus' sons in mythology.

While I did love Clash of the Titans I have to agree Eye of the Tiger was my favourite. I watched that a crazy amount of times when I was a kid.

The trailer looks very good, but I have to say the music was poorly chosen. Trying way to hard to be extreme like 300. Hopefully the film itself will have a proper score.

The trailer comes across like some lost Iron Maiden video from the late 80s.

Craig Armstrong is composing the score, and acording to wiki, Matt Bellamy is working on some of the music but whether that means he is writing, playing , or producing has yet to be confirmed.

I think it looks like a good remake. Lots of action.

    I loved the original.

When I heard this mentioned a while back the original kept on rolling around in my head as some sort of basis for comparison which, on reflection, is ridiculous.

I look forward to switching my brain off and having a blast watching this.

im really looking forward to this one.

neeson looks amazing a zeus, the guy just oozes godhood, and the whole style of the update really fits for a modern interpretation of the ol tale.

there seems to be alot of olympian loving going on in hollywood lately. theres another one called "percy jackson and the lightening theif" due out thats alot better looking that it deserves to be with that title. :)

still roll on clash, worthingtons becoming one of my favourite action guys.

Looks good allright,I've been saying for years that Clash of the Titans is a prime candidate for a remake.
Btw how is Worthington getting all this high profile action roles,Terminator Salvation,Avatar and now this .
Has he sold his soul to the devil ? Its an unbelievable rise to fame.

    TBH its fairly crap.

dont get me wrong , its one of those seminal films from my childhood that engenderd a love of mythology and legend that steered me down the path of sci fi and fantasy films and itll always be one i look fondly on but the sensibilities are of a differnt age so some of it will seem naff (that fecking owl springs to mind) especially to a generation raised on darker stuff

still the effects are pretty damn cool for the time and the whole scene with medusa still holds up well in terms of the drama in it.

if you liked jason and the argonauts or any of the sinbad stuff odds are youll enjoy the original COTT. Probably more.

Ive never gotten excited for a remake before but I cant deny I am a little wet for this. I loved these movies years ago and with today's technology this could be really entertaining.

    Or it could be crap

To answer my own question, i read in a magazine (FHM i think) that the release date for England is mid March so we should have it around or shortly after that.

Too long, i want it now.

I thought the original was fantastic, but am really disappointed by the trailers for this. They might as well be trailers for the 300 / Troy / Alexander / Gladiator. All the recent crop of films based on those ancient myths are inter-changable, unoriginal, homoerotic (especially the 300), adolescent tripe. I really hope I'm wrong and this turns out to be a crackin (couldn't resist) film, but I won't hold my breath.

i couldn't agree more...looks quite corny....sam worthington leaping into the air is just cringeworthy...give me Ray Harryhausen stop motion any day over modern GCI effects...not many directors these days seem to realise that overusing(not always convincing)CGI does not work...
