What the hell do YOU want?

Seeing as there are quite a few arguments of late over peoples different goals and definitions of success in the gym, let's just put it out there. What the hell do YOU want from your workouts? What are your goals? Where are you now and where do you want to be? Do you want to be bigger, stronger, leaner or a combination.

    Be specific.

    I'll start.

I'm about 80kg at the moment and currently trying to put on weight and get stronger. I'd guesstimate my bodyfat at around 15%. Ultimately, I'd like to be 90kg and BF of around 10%. That will take a lot of time. I don't mind "hiding my abs" for a while, though I wouldn't be a fan of getting massively fat either. I'd like to see my lifts increase, particularly my squat. I'm also recovering from injury and have massive flexibility issues which I'm constantly trying to address; I'd like to get them cleared up and get back to deadlifts and bent over rows, which I can't do right now because of hamstring and related muscle problems. As far as my general body shape is concerned, I've made good progess; when I started lifting I was about 63 kg and weak as ****e, I could barely bench press 40kg. I can 1RM 120kg now and would like to see that get higher.

    I want to

    1) Increase my weight from 65kg to 75kg, regardless of how it's put on
    2) Make 1.5BW on the big three for 5 x 5

    All by christmas!

Whatever will enable me to run around a track as fast as possible. Don't give a s*** about aesthetics (although it is an unintended consequence).
What I want in the gym to facilitate this:
    200kg squat
    220kg deadlift
    150kg bench
Nearly there in most, all off 69kg bodyweight.

I'm aiming to get stronger first, then fitter once I have reached my strength goals. Previously I spent too long trying to strength and cardio train at the same time.

    I want the following:

    Squat 125kg
    Bench 100kg
    Deadlift 150kg
    Pull Ups 20 reps

I'm currently 80kg and don't mind going heavier in pursuit of the above. When I reach these I'll get back into cardio and crossfit. Hopefully I'll hit these by year end.

    -Get stronger at deadlifting

    Great Thread!

Goals: <16% Body Fat and be able to do at least one chin up

Reason why I work out: To look good, to strengthen my body so that when we try for a baby my body will be able to carry around the extra weight a bit better and to ultimately be able to run around after the children that I hope we will eventually have.

I want to get to the point where someone accuses me of being on roids and even though I'm not they won't believe me :D.

Other then that short term goals are 80 overhead press, 110 bench, 200 beltless raw squat and deadlift and hoping to get these by around christmas time.

After that aim for a 250 raw squat and 120 overhead press

Oh and get big but not tooooooo big so will probably aim initially for around 10% at 110kgish.

Now that all said if I don't get any of that I don't care as I only train as I like doing it so once I am enjoying myself I don't care

I do crossfit at CFI. Currently taking part in "project hugening" there with a few other lads who want to put on weight and get stronger. We do a few lifts then do crossfit as usual. I'm on a gallon a milk a day, fun times.

    BW 71.8kg
    Squat 90kg
    Deadlift 130kg
    Press 55kg
    Bench 77.5kg
    Powerclean 77.5kg

Goals Before Christmas (as close as possible to)
    BW 82.5kg
    Squat 120kg
    Deadlift 160kg
    Press 65kg
    Bench 90kg
    Powerclean 90kg

Thing's are going well so far and I'm weighing in at 77kg. I'll be hitting my 1RM squat for 5's across in worksets in about two weeks, no doubt about that. I'm really hoping I can keep it going until I hit 100kg x 5's.

The next crossfit invitational is in Feburary. So the plan is to be strong enough to contend for Top 5 there. At the last invititional I was fit but not strong enough by a long shot.

able to do a lot of cardio, able to squat and bench over my bodyweight, and to look lean. Which is how I am now, so i'm just maintaining it really.

This doesn't really change much for me.....

    Fighting fitness
    Very low bodyfat
Maximum possible strength for my weight

Over Christmas though my goals will change somewhat:
Eat a lot of mince pies
Maximise body fat to minimise heat loss
    Consume way too much alcohol
    Consume way too much turkey

Hey everyone, good thread. Have been doing the gym since july and love it. My goals were what i'd say are the big three for beginners, lose weight, get fit and tone up if possible.

    Weight
    Lose moobs, check.
Lose weight, down from 13 stone to 11 stone, am 5 10.

    Fitness
Resting heart rate and blood pressure are perfect, plus i can play 5 a side for an hour without puking which i could not do three months ago.

    Tone
Starting to see some definition in my chest and arms. Recently moved onto free weights to accelerate this.

    Other
Have noticed a serious decrease in the annoying back pain i used to get from staring at a pc all day in work. Put this down to the work i've been doing on core strength. And this is just one of the unintended consequences of all the hard work...;)

Currently 77kg - aiming for 85kg or so at under 10%bf with...
    Squat 125kg+
    Bench 100kg
    Deadlift 150kg
    Learn kipping pullups!!!

Then make decent inroads to crossfit

Given what thread this is in reference too I think people probably need to give an idea of the type of body they think they want or think they will end up.

Current me: 5' 8ish; female; 69kg; body fat - no clue but wud imagine it could be lower. Put on weight and lost fitness over the past few months, during overseas research for thesis; also coming back from a tendon injury in my knee.

Future me: the first two should stay the same but would hope the following change in the short to medium term...

    weight - 60kg
    Re-discover waist line
    5km - sub 25mins
    10km - sub 55min
Remain injury free and generally feeling fit and strong and able to take on life with gusto :D

    Immediate goals till xmas:
    Get back to speed sessions.
Do at least two 5k races.
Incorporate more weekly full body workouts.

    2010:
Keep half mara time under 90min and work down(hopefull) in small increments.
    2 marathons (spring and winter)
3:20 marathon spring and sub 3:15 or 3:10 autumn.
Keep speed sessions up and full body workouts.

... and try to finish degree and cert programme too!

    Currently 85k..

    Get down to 80kg / 81kg

Keep strength or maybe a bit stronger:

    Bench 130
    Squat 170

And run 10K a lot more frequently than I do now... as it is currently zero, I stop at about 6 or 7k.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

    Loose the belly & mini-moobs.
    Get the arms stronger.
    Also raise general fitness.

Losing the belly is the main one. That, and getting back into the gym routine (hardest part, i find).

Am currently 18 stone/255 lbs approximately. I want to get down to about 11 stone. I'm 5ft 10 so I'm not exactly sure how lean that will look. The lightest I've been recently is 203lbs back in 2004 which is about 14 1/2 stone and even then, I still had a huge amount to shift my from my belly, sides and chest.

The ideal goal would be a physique like Randy Orton or John Morrisson from WWE. However I know that takes a LOAD of work and may be somewhat unrealistic. If so, a physique like Tom Welling in Smallville would be good, or the guy who plays the Green Arrow, Justin Hartley. He's very lean and cut.

    Get to 14 stone
Improve Squat & general leg strength/explosiveness
    Improve Deadlift
    Improve Bench

You won't be looking like Randy Orton at 11 stone mate! 11 stone at 5'10 is small - I'd be gunnin' for about 14 stone - lotsa muscle and looking lean.

I would agree with itsallaboutheL. I am 5' 6" and 11st 10lb with 13% BF and am trying to add on a little more as I feel I am too lean. So at 5' 10" then you could probably go a good bit higher then 11st and still look good as long as you keep your BF% lowish.

    Best Regards,

    M
