I'm plucking a number out of thin air - let's say 20 this year and 11 for 2012. It depends on how people feel about deferring I suppose.

Personally I want to start in 2011.

Did they ask about your view on deferring?

I just simply told them I preferred 2011.

Expect to be deferred beyond that - the big firms have such a backlog. Many people who were offered jobs in the last round of interviews have already had compulsory deferrals until 2011.

I know, and that's why this would be what could attract me to AC ahead of other firms who have made offers.

Anyway we'll see how it goes - they told me that 2011 places were available. I know many other firms defer to 2012 (for this round of interviews). But this would be a plus point in their favour if they offer me 2011. I'm sure they'd prefer if people deferred too but I'd rather not if at all possible.

Hey guys, do any of ye know what to expect from the Maples drinks reception? And with regards to the dress code, I've been told that the associates and partners will be coming from work so to 'let that guide' my decision...but wouldn't it be a bit funny to show up to a drinks reception in a suit? Would a simple skirt and top not suffice? Any advice?

JessieJ - you should wear a suit, everyone else will, ive been at them b4......

So how long did everyones individual interviews with Arthur Cox last? Mine was 20 min! I thought that was very short and prob not a good sign?

Maybe after 20 mins they thought; we've heard enough, we have to employ her!

What were the questions like? Anything terrible?

I was asked what do you think of the Copenhagen agreement... if i hadn't read the Irish Times just that morning I would have been in serious trouble. But i managed to BS my way out of it with the little knowledge I had.

The A+L interview offers are out today, got mine this morning. Anyone else have any luck?

I would have loved that question :D Instead we talked about my life for 40 minutes - never got beyond primary and secondary school (I've been to many ;) )

I've only applied to 2 and finished my interviews with both now - good luck to those who are just beginning their interview process with the other firms.

Has anyone heard back from Arthur Cox yet?

Or have an idea when/how they will be getting back to people?

    So impatient.....

I had my interview yesterday, I do not feel very confident after it no mention of places for 2010 or 2011 for me. How soon before the results are out? Is it by letter of phone call?

Ah don't be like that - you never know what they look for or how they're thinking (I once did walk out of an interview thinking wow...I blew it for sure). But it turned out okay :)

I'd expect a phone call telling me a letter is in the post :D (that's how it went with other firms).

And the only reason they mentioned years to me was because I asked them - so don't be overly concerned about that if they didn't say it on their own volition.

And I don't know when results are finalised - I believe some people still have interviews? If interviews finish Thursday then perhaps we'll know by Monday :)

I'm fairly sure the last interviews were today, so maybe offers will be made friday.

No i dont mind at all... personally i think its past work experience and "commercial awareness" that the bigger corporate firms are looking for in your CV / Application.

I'm in the final year of my undergrad law degree, I have average grades and I have fairly extensive commercial work experience with banks, investment intermediaries and management consultancies.

I have come to the conclusion from meeting other candidates that once you get to the interview stage everyone is on a level playing field.

The vibe that i get from interviewers is that they are looking to see what the person behind the CV / Appliction is like and asking can i work with this person?

However I may be wrong and it may be that certain firms rank candidates prior to the interview and then reevaluate once they have concluded this stage. Who knows?

This whole waiting to hear from AC thing is killing me! Can anyone who hears anything over the next few days please post about it asap.... just to put me out of my absolute misery!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 100 ✭✭browne111

    Oh relax!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 283 ✭✭dee8839

Easy to say relax, but harder to actually do! At least now we know that no-one has heard, I'd hate to think I'd spent the entire weekend hoping when in actual fact the successful ones had already been notified and I was hoping in vain. I hope we know tomorrow, one way or another. Best of luck to everyone...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68 ✭✭Sarahaw

Well since its 18:30 now do you mean that they've rang people earlier today?? I wonder does that mean that I've been rejected cos I didnt get a call today?

Yeah they have been ringing people today, but im sure it doesn't mean that they have finished making their calls.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 283 ✭✭dee8839

Oh god. I got the impression from those who went through this process last year that they ring the successful people on one day and then after that they let the rejected candidates know. When they had the whole day today, why would they contact people over the course of two days? Its only a few phonecalls. I'm not too hopeful at this stage... I'm the same, have a MOP interview but really want AC. I just want to know!:( Oh well. We should be out of our misery tomorrow.

I'm being realistic and saying that if we haven't had a phonecall by now it's probably not coming :( PFO will arrive in the post tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 483 ✭✭legal eagle 1

Sarahaw, do you mind me asking what your background is seen as your so successful getting interviews?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Argh! Had a voicemail around 19:18.... just rang them back now (kinda late but better than never I suppose). Similar to what I expected - phonecall to let people know the offer is in the post.

That doesn't mean that they won't be ringing others tomorrow for example. So for anyone else who didn't get a call today, not over till they send out a decision one way or another. Good luck! :)

Well the natural thing to do now is to drink I suppose. Similarly essay due in 2 days (1 really) so no celebrating, just bed early (what an exciting life I lead!)

You were told you got 2011? I'd hope they send that to me as an offer. Fingers crossed.

Yeah i was told 2011, but one of the lads got offered a 2012 place...

I know I'm thinking i should do something but the height of my celebrations has been decorating my christmas tree.... anything to avoid equity.
