I think keeping one manual and one online log is pretty obsessive. :) But right now I need the discipline. Its too easy to imagine you did more or went faster than you actually did if you dont detail it.

Swim set tonight. Have had a stressy day and it affected me. Heart rate all over the place. Did 700m wu, then a 750m tt. Did 17.04. Coach not happy. Says I should have been better. Hes right. :) 100m easy, then 200m one arm, 100m sd. A disappointing session, just didnt feel right. Better luck next time.

Could only manage a run this evening, time was limited. 4.2 miles easy. 35 mins. Still. Its something.

Out the door at 7 to get some miles in on the bike. Did 21. Apart from the trucks and the road surface, it was glorious out. Didnt go very hard and found the hills more of a struggle than normal, so a bit of a junk session, but at my level any mileage cant hurt. 1h 25.

Another early start. In the pool at seven. Did 1640 but it was very slow. Im working on changing from 2x breaths to 4x breaths, which meant I had to stop for a few seconds every couple of lengths. Its a pool I only use now and again, and it was very warm. I asked how warm when I got out, and it was 31 degrees. Lovely for floating around but just horrible to swim hard, I was cooking. :)

Back on the bike this morning for some hill reps. Out for half seven which was a lie in. :) Did four good hills, easiest to hardest. By the time I got to the last one I was running out of fuel but a gel helped, the hill didnt feel as bad as when I did it last week. 14.5 miles total. Legs are proper tired now.

why don't you try bi - lat breathing rather than every 4?

I do, sometimes but I tend to swim smoother doing x4. Its something Ive got to adapt to now, I cant stay at x2, so Ill do sessions of varied breaths.

Ran early this morning. A handy lsr in the wind and rain. Glad I hadnt planned a bike today... Somewhere just over 12 miles, no garmin so cant be exact. 1h 50.

After a bite to eat and a cup o tea, went to the pool. 2k, 50 mins.

Happy with this week, got in over 8 hours. Felt like I did some good work. Hope its having an effect. Wont know till June!

Took a rest day yesterday, time didnt allow for training but I was tired anyway. I musta looked it too, I got a few unwelcome comments! Swam tonight and I really wasnt up for it at all. I felt tired and a bit defeated. Thankfully it was a short swim as we stopped a lot and got coached on technique. All helpful but lots to work on. 1100m.

I need to take a step back week this week. Im physically tired but mentally a bit drained too. I need to rest and reduce the pressure so I feel the training love again, cos its a bit missing right now :)

Am on a proper, enforced, step back alright. Have come down with flu. Note to self: next time I feel ill, I need to consider the fact that I might be ill, instead of just doing too much!

After a very depressing week laid up, I took my still not 100% body out on the bike this morning, more for a mental fix than anything.

Only did a slow ten miles but it felt grand. The worst after effect of the bug I got is lingering pain in my limbs which is worse at rest, movement helps but its agonising for a while when I stop. But no point just sitting on my bum waiting for it to go. Got to get back to normality or Ill go mental.

Went to circuits tonight, more to socialise than to train. It was hard, but got through it. Aching limbs were the biggest problem. Cant wait to be fully well again. This is a pain in the ar5e. :)

Swim session. Really felt like Id got some of my mojo back, it felt easier than the last few weeks, and totally different to the previous one. 650 wu, 250 fc arms, 200 ssts, 6 x 100 sprint @2.30, 150 sd. Did the sprint in 1.55 - 2.05 so lots of rest. Enjoyed it. Shows I need to work my schedule to include good rest, it makes a difference.

Did a short run tonight. Four miles or thereabouts. 31 mins. Felt nice and easy, just plodding along with Beat in my ears. A happy training day.

Bike tonight. Skipped going out with the club cos would be out too long, did my own thing. 31k, 75 mins. Felt good, much stronger than the last few rides. Strong wind on the way back made me work a bit, which is all good.

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Swam this evening. 45 mins in total but took lots of breaks cos my kids were in the pool. Managed 1400m, and 120m of that were fc legs. Otherwise worked on keeping technique precise. Or at least as precise as I can. :)

Early, early, early hill set on the bike. Did nearly 15 miles of hills in an hour and a half, and ran for ten minutes afterwards. Managed to do the 'horrible' hill x4 this time along with the next hardest one x2, so its all improving.

Christ but my quads ache now.

Is it the HIM in Galway you're training for?

    Dead jealous. :(

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

No, Im doing two, one in July and one in Sept. Both are abroad, didn't want to chance Galway, its very weather related for the swim. I noticed in the s/b/r youre not down for any distance. Any reason why youre not entering something like HIM yourself?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,364 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

I'd love to do a HIM but I don't have the guts to attempt that swim. Only work I really need to do to train properly for a tri is work on swimming, I have the cycling and swimming. Once I get driving properly I can start up on some proper open water swimming. No point doing it if I'm not going to do it properly. :)

Yeah your bike and run is flying. The swim does come, but was the hardest thing for me, and still is really. But I started off doin half a length and standing up and gasping, and Im getting there now, so it aint impossible. :)

Another bike session today. Im trying to rack up the miles cos its my weakest thing. Took off down the backroads in the rain, which wasnt altogether unpleasant. The wind was worse, tho if you pick a route that goes past a wind farm what do you expect? :) Did a slow 35 miles. I really need to get more distance in on my long rides. But god, I get so bored pedalling along But need to do at least 55 miles. Had a few water stops along the way which were really so I could get out the saddle for a minute, bloody thing was killing me today. The joys of back to back bike sessions..

Hope to do an my first open water swim tomorrow. Not looking forward to it, its gonna be a siu moment getting in. :)

Circuits tonight. And for a bit of extra training, I cycled in. Its not far, just 14k round trip. Some serious hills coming home which are good for the legs.

Circuits were: ball throw, plank, skipping, oly bar side to side, rope tug o war, chest press, lunges, get ups, kb swing, kb obliques, burpee/pushup, steps, squats. Tough enough!

Swim session, our last pool one of the season. It's into the sea next week. We had 100m tt, and I managed 1.49 which I'm happy with. Seven seconds off last time. Now just got to get another 25 off that... :)

Oh for gods sake, I have a good swim and toddle off to bed happy, then wake at 5am with what seems to be food poisoning. Am back in bed and THIS SUCKS.

Congrats on the 100m PB. Nice time.

Sorry to hear that. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

After two days enforced rest and probably a bit soon, I went swimming tonight. Just an easy session while my kids did a lesson. Felt nice to be in and doing something but am flaked out now. Shows I'm still pretty weak. But you don't know till you try, and I'm addicted so I had to try. :)

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

In order to feed my addiction a bit more I ran this morning. Turned out to be a good run, I felt better at the end than at the start. Please, please oh gods of tri and all things sporty, let that be the last bit of sickness I get for a while!

Long bike today. 95k. Would have been ok but for the @*!?%* wind which I had to ride into for at least 30k. I hate my bike right now.

Circuits last night. Didn't cycle in cos my ass really didn't want to be reaccquainted with the saddle just yet... Usual stuff but god it was hard cos I was tired.

And tonight I did my first sea swim of the season. A bit chilly but not half as bad as I expected. Was a bit hard to find a rhythm, but got around 750 done. The cold and dizziness were getting the better of me which makes a 1500 river swim in two weeks time a scary prospect!
