Pit a guys who are completely uninterested in video games vs girls who are completely uninterested in video games to see.

Just because the majority of games don't appeal to all women (i'd probably guess things like sports games), you can't just label them inferior. You have to have a level playing field before you can accurately assess.

Nah, it's not sexist, women are usually crap at computer games, what % of games are aimed at the niche market that is women, and yes, it is a niche market.

I don't like sports games, neither does the majority of gamers I know. Women are simply not good at computer games in general. Not all women, but the majority of women.

Get 100 men and 100 women, put them head on in a selection of games, the men will win...

The majority of gamers are men, this it not rocket science. There hasn't been extensive research into this subject, but it is common knowledge. Women are generally crap, men are generally good. It doesn't make it sexist, I think you are confused about that word. People seem to throw it out whenever it suits them to back up their arguments, and it is a pretty weak strategy.

Men have higher insurance than women, this is not sexist, statistics show that women are in less crashes than men (note how I didn't say they drive better). Same with young drivers V older drivers, it's not ageism as statistics show that younger drivers are involved in more crashes.

I would actually put this down to the age that guys start gaming and the types of different games we'll have played. I started with a Commodore when I was 5 or something, and would have played most types of games before and can generally pick up any game nowadays (I haven't owned a console since the N64) and get into it quite fast.
Took me ages to get decent at wow because mmo's were a whole new bag to me, but when I picked up AOC I was pretty decent straight away.

A lot of girls will have only played platformers etc and won't be good at FPS's etc, as in early life they were off busy discussing how best to make mens lives hell while we played Doom.

lol. There's no point even discussing this with you. You dig your heels in so deep and defend yourself with barbed comments that it would be a waste of my time.

Wow was my first MMORPG, I had played stormwind before this. I think that is all really. I got warhammer online, I was crap at it... :P The games industry is male dominant, there is no question about that.

Ok, I cannot make this any simpler for you, but just because the words male and female are used, doesn't make this sexist. The FACT that women are generally crap at games, is not a sexist comment. You through the word around so freely, to defend your argument it's pretty disgusting really.

There is no descrimination here, the women we play with are not treated badly, if anything people are leniant towards them when they make mistakes.

The two minds operate very differantly when it comes to a lot of things, gaming is one of those things. It would be unfair to say all women are completely useless at games, it would also be incorrect. We are saying that in general, women are not as good at games as men are.

We wouldn't make a decision in game based on ones sex. Male or female, it's all the same. They still get their raid spots and all the rest. I have yet to see serious sexism in the game.

    Biggest idiot moment?

Thinking that OMW in the battlegrounds meant "Oh my word" and that people were expressing their immense shock and horror via a Victorian lack of swearing for some unknown reason...

I swear I thought the same thing..

When I was levelling my rogue it literally took ages. I would get to say level 37, get as much new gear as possible then spend ages in the AH trying to make money so I could enchant everything with the best enchants I could get, crusader and stuff. Because I thought it would help me level up faster..

He got to level 62 of 70 when I got too bored and rolled a mage that I pretty much power levelled to 70 in about a quarter of the time it took me to get to 62 on my rogue :(

talk about a thread going off topic .

for every 1 good female player in wow i know 100 good male players
for every 1 bad female players in wow i know 100 bad male players
for every 1 bitchy/suffering from pms female players in wow i know 400 bitchy/ suffering from pms male players
i also know more male players who stick to one or two roles and never change

in the game i know of 3 female players who i enjoy playing with on a daily basis.

i have had many idioc moments in wow if it wasnt for ivan drakar and various members of my old guilds i wouldnt of been much worse off.

one of my fav moments was running from brill to epl and getting one shotted by the spiders but keept going back for more because i kept telling myself its only a bloody spider

when i got back to wotlk after a break in tbc i was in nexus with a group and they asked for a summoning portal to which i responded " have to go outside to summon "

Somewhat similiar to Nevores, back when I first started after first retail release, first time playing an MMO, and people kept saying that they knew each other from "IRL". I just assumed forever that this was either 1.) some other game abreviated 2.) some type of chatroom (this was probably because it kind of sounds like IRC)

Other n00b moments in the beginning mostly include not understanding loot priorities RE classes, playing a Druid I assumed that I had as much right to any cloth piece as a mage/priest etc. simply because I could wear it. I ended up in argument after argument, people saying I ninjaed something, and me countering that "I can wear cloth ffs!" eventuallky a guildie spend about 10 minutes trying to explain it to me and I was at a loss as to how it was fair for a very long time :)

Countless n00b moments when we first started 40man raiding Molten Core, there was some boss that used to make you blow up after ~10 sec and you would fly up in the air. Needless to say, I didn't have a clue and wiped the raid twice before I figured it out. Thankfully, I had a bit more cop-on when we started raiding BWL and properly read what the tactics were before raids.

I played a rogue as my first character to the late twenties. I then rolled a warlock and once asked in guild "When do warlocks gain dual wield?". How very embarrassing...

In my first instance run (Scarlet Monastery), trying to polymorph all the mobs in every pull.

(Until someone whispered "you do know you can only sheep one mob at a time"...)

Pfft, one mob at a time... who knew

At least you didnt do it in BRD :o

In fairness though, I had taken a 6 month break and it was my first instance run :p

Another noob mistake - Leveling a priest to 60 with Recruit A Friend and realising that they are PAINFUL to level and I hate it! Seems such a waste to delete it but I have no more character slots :(

A few weeks ago we were waiting outside Yogg-Saron's room and the RL announced 5 min break. I took off my headphones, and went for a cup of tea. When i came back entire raid was dead and screen/vent full of WTF?!

I had dropped headfones on the the "W" key, and every1 else watched in horror as my toon ran in leeroy-stylee :P

    I've done that. ololololololol.

    Not gonna say my biggest noob moment. So scarla D;

Biggest bonehead mistake that I can remember (since I seem to try and forget all the dreadful ones :D) was probably trying to 'save' the tank in my first Culling of Stratholme HC run (also happened to be my first ever HC run :P) from that Constricting Chains spell that Meathook casts, by using Death Grip. I was hoping that he would be pulled to me and the cast would be stopped, but instead got one-shotted... :D

I thought the new ICC buff was causing my boomkin o bug somehow causing 1k less dps.

Then I realised ten mins ago I was raiding 25mans today as boomkin in resto gear.

Spending god knows how long handing in epic amounts of cloth in order to get exalted with the Orcs of Orgrimmar.
Thought that was the only way for a Tauren to get a wolf mount until I discovered BGs:o

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭Mister-M5

Used a staff with my warrior for a long time.

    Sold everything to vendors.

Didn't know you could be rezzed.

Didn't know the difference between need roll and greed roll.

Though emblems went into your bags and not your currency tab.

I would strongly advise reading a beginners guide to WoW to anyone who is considering playing :p

I remember finding a portal south of ghostlands when I first played the game. I tried to fight through WPL thinking I was going to some secret area. I sacrificed so many pets in order to run a bit ahead until my pet died and the mob caught me. I tried to give up and make my way back but didnt have a heartstone (:() and spent 2 hours trying to find my way out because I was lost, until a friendly druid seen me, laughed and escorted me to Undercity. Was probably the most fun I had playing computer games. Wow is such an amazing game the first time you play it.

My biggest learning experience: Trying to tank Scarlet Monastery without my threat booster on. Group wiped in first 15-30 seconds :). Lol, paladin tanks ftw!

I only realized last night that blindly stacking +SP instead of +Hit on everything may not have been such a good idea after all...

Mine was in my first dungeon (WC), we wiped, and I didn't know that you would be rezzed when you back through the portal, so I used the spirit healer and rezzed outside.... and immediately got kicked from the party.

Funnily tho, me and 3 others from my guild were running through a random, and we got a PuG tank, he was undergeared but we said nothing... we ended up getting HOL hc, which was no problem until we got to the slags... rather than run through and clear them at the other side, out DK tank put down D&D, and attempted to tank them
