Yeah, cheers Alan! It was a real shame that the bar had to close last year. With those prices, I'm pretty sure the bar will do much better :]

    Alan,

Any chance that the bar could start serving six pack of bav and that ala the pav in trinity, i for one would be a lot more likely to head there before a night out or after exams or that if i could buy 6 cans for €10 or so rather than having to buy pints which even priced cheaply still tend to burn a hole in the pocket

But if you do that (even in the pav afaik) they have to open all six at the bar, since its not an off-license, so by the time you get to the sixth can that's gonna be pretty gross. :/

But do they actually follow the rule book in the Pav? Ive only been there once, on a rather cloudy night, so I cant remember....

Im sure they would waver on it though...

Just for some ancient history. Up until 1990 or so there was no on-campus bar. Everyone partied in the Slipper or the Autobahn.

Clubs and Socs parties were held in the lecture rooms, there were some wonderful p***ups in CG01 when the beer reps would let us have a keg.

Does that stuff still go on ?

Actually I'm out there all next week

In fairness the nu bar two years ago had so much more atmosphere than the old bar last year.

The old bar last year was just terrible....

Yeah... As im going into 3rd year now, I never got a sample the Old Bar in all its glory. The nubar and its €3 tuesdays were fairly good, although insanely packed. They could have opened the Venue up some of those nights... let the electronic music soc belt out the tunes or the music soc sing some covers of kings of leon songs....

Last years farcical efforts at having a student bar paint a very negative picture of what the old bar was. Plenty of the older students told me that it was absolutely brilliant around 2005-07. Sadly, they just couldnt rekindle the old atmosphere last year, although a rant about the SU's efforts isnt for this thread.

Bottom line - can the Nubar be what the Old Bar once was? A question for the older heads I guess.

Wish I'd gone back to DCU instead of Trinity now. :pac:

    +1. My sentiments exactly.

I definitely think I would've been around and about the campus far more in final year if...ya know...it had a bar much.

It'll be fun having the NuBar again. I just hope that their take on food will be somewhat decent...

Well hope the food is a decent price as well. Anyone know what the craic will be with bringing along friends from outside DCU? Seemed to be a fair bit of hassle over it last year.

Will the scoops served be genral pub ones like Heineken, Carlsberg, Bud, or done by someone like InBev?

never got to see the Nu, or the old bar for that matter, in all its glory. will be interested to see if its a success this year. all depends if students actually go to the bar instead of taxiing into town.

so if the nu bar is open, what about the old bar? is it just going to be left idle? or is open too and was it mentioned in the thread already?

Hopefully the old bar becomes available to clubs and societies for general use.
Now that the seminar room has been taken over by the Mez, societies such as games soc have nowhere to go for their activities.

Really looking forward to seeing a solid pricelist for the NuBar :)

I'll be very interested to see the confirmed prices of the Nu Bar, lower prices = bigger crowds and more atmosphere. Its simple really. It is so obvious why the Old Bar was a failure last year.

I was there last night and it was EPIC! GG to everyone who made it happen. There was a huge buzz about the place and the cheap drink means people can actually afford to go there now.

    Gossip Girl?

But yeah agreed. Great buzz. How a student bar should be.

  • €3 for cans of heineken today. Was very happy to pay that to be honest!

What about other drinks, what prices are we looking at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,260 ✭✭✭jdivision

they're about E3.50 I was told by the guy who organised it

  • Excellent. Keeping all drinks below €3.50/€4 will mean lots more people in I think

The Guiness is €3.50 - and it was unexpectedly lovely!

Didn't get any but saw someone drinking it and it looked quite flat?

Not the pints that I got... lots of people behind the bar though, I'm sure some could be bad at pouring them (two years ago they served me Guiness in a plastic glass in the newbar - now thats bad guiness!)

Not to be a wet blanket - but does the music in there have to be so loud!?!

Seriously!! You cannot hear eachother, you just can't enjoy yourself. Does every entertainment event run by the student union have to revolve around drink? I know there are a few comedians and the hypnotist - but would it be possible to have event to coincide - don't get be wrong I appreciate the cheap drink as much as the next broke student - but two weeks is too much!!

yeah the loud music is annoying and is the main reason why I haven't even gone into the place yet. Plenty time for that in a week or two when people stop going to lectures and the bar and hopefully the music isn't so bad.
the slipper will do the job till then

I went to the Slipper tonight. It was much more quieter and you could sit down with friends get food and enjoy a drink without the tud tud tud of that irritating DJ. Who is that guy? His voice just rubs me up the wrong way.

Seriously if anyone in the student union reads this please turn the music down it is turning people off the bar!!!!!
