Thanks alan, he's been loads on that all summer.

    Any idea's of the hours?

I'm guessing since the new student card scheme there'll be no 'membership' of the bar - will we be having the security needless thugs on the door to welcome us from lectures?

cool =) Umm, who will be running it?

I dont know the details but this should be alot more like a proper bar. One that actually opens. :)

Edit: From dcu su's facebook. "Monday - Thursday all day"

Would be an improvement on last year anyway. Now they just need to get some decent pool tables:p

Student Cards are now issued for the duration of your course instead of yearly

Does this mean that DCU had previously been without a bar of any kind?! Surely thats some sort of legal requirement for a university:D. Please tell me it's open proper pub hours?

**** the pool tables, its all about actually developing a vibe in the place. Even two years ago, the Nubar was void of an atmosphere.

As students, we've got what we wanted. Now are we going to use it or just pass it off as another SU failure (which last year was imho)

I'll definitly make use of the bar :)

Fair point, for all the complaining that was done about a lack of a bar it'll be interesting to see how many students actually make use of it. Although unless something is done about the prices its hard to see it being busy.

Last year the bar went to a "open one night a week" affair because it wasn't making any money.

Next up: Bring back €3 Tuesdays!

How was it not making any money? Sorry, the notion that a student bar has to close due to the lack of students drinking boogles my mind. Was everyone going to the Slipper instead?

In my experience people were drinking at home then heading into town if there going out. Decent prices and a good buzz will be required to stop this happening again.

    ditto.

The problem is that the bar is run for profit by a certain company. If the SU got a hold of it, there's no reason for it being anythign other than a huge success

This almost feels like an April Fool's joke.

It's up to the DCU student body to make this work, I for one will be lending my support by drinking there regularly!

    Hey all,

Alan here. The finer details are being ironed out between the operator and the college. In a nutshell we are looking at Monday to Thursday, from 1 until close with some food during the day. Prices are looking great, the price list they gave me was incredibly cheap. The most expensive thing on it was a pint for €3.90, vodka and coke was €3.50.

€3.50 for a vodka and coke?

You just gained a valued customer

Also nice location Alan(Not very loyal though ;))

    Wow!

    Those prices are great :D

When does the bar open? Is it open during orientation week?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 418 ✭✭Alanthroneus

Unfortunately not. The deal only happened on Thursday and hence there isn't enough time to get it ready for Monday. But there will be a big opening party on the Monday of Freshers' Week

    Ah well!

But the opening sounds great

Does it close at 12.30pm? I take it it's not late opening!

I ask you a personal favour,

Any chance you could get the Guinness quality team to drop by? If I remember correctly, they did visit the nubar two years ago, and it made the difference.

Imagine guinness served in actual pint glasses..... I think ill be repeating my year if so.
