    The last one was great. Hope there is a new set of skittles, the ones left at the range have seen a bit of use since.

    Many thanks for organising another one.

    FIX!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D

    I can't make this one either (on that note, anyone know a range near Sienna?), awwww, what a gyp.

    I only subsequently found out who were some of the organising crew responsible for the first shoot.

    But soon; soon, we'll send a team, a team so formidable and handsome that, as we stride in, dripping with competitiveness (at least I think that's what it is, that or clutch fluid), chocolate digestives will be lost forever in the coffee mugs of awe.

    There's been far too much doom and gloom and not enough jeering, belittling and general tomfoolery.

    You have been warned. Lines have been drawn. Gauntlets flung.

    Enjoy the shoot, you pack of couldn't hit a tit in a dairy w**kers!

    Do change the skittles.They will be otherwise so full of lead,that a 44magnum wont move them.[my excuse for not knocking them]:D

    Also my thanks to the organisers to organising this 2nd event.Best fun I've had in a long while.
    Pity it's clashing with Lough Bo and a shoot in NI as well.:(

    Sorry, can't make it either. The Lough Bo event has been on the planner for a long time. Hope to make it next time.

    Same here. :(

    I'm deeply conflicted on this; I'm a member of Midland and it's MUCH closer to home than Lough Bo, but Lough Bo's been in the calendar for ages.

    Feck, arse, etc.

    Hmmm. On one hand, having loads of competitions is healthy, and eventually some just will clash, no way round that.

    On the other hand, a central clearing house for calendar dates and announcements and such *coughlikethiscough*would alleviate this a fair bit...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,641 ✭✭✭Bananaman

    All the NASRPC ones are posted at the start of the year on http://www.nasrpc.ie/

    It's always out first so when we are organising a club shoot we can try not to clash.

    In terms of other clubs - we generally make some calls and see.

    Has to be said, though, I would not have heard of the last one in Midlands if not for boards.

    NASRPC.ie is great for the NASRPC, but when you've NRAI matches and NASRPC matchs clashing, the solution probably won't be NASRPC.ie or NRAI.ie - a third party would be better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,641 ✭✭✭Bananaman

    The Peoples front of Tabasco - or - the Kakastan Peoples Front.

    It is fair to say that if you are organising a pistol or gallery rifle event that you should first check the NASRPC site and see if they have one on - otherwise you are limiting your turnout as they are the national events - they have at least one every month - as the dates have been published since January many people will aleady have committed -

    If Boards had a built in Calendar then people - NASRPC included I presume - would add the dates - that they don't want people clashing with - to that - but it doesn't ..... or does it?

    We do not need a third or indeed a fourth party arbitrating over who best deserves to have a match when and moving the other one to clash with the All Ireland Football Final etc.

    NASRPC or indeed NRAI are not going to start talking about this here or else they will fall foul of Devores 95yoyo/post edict

    Sparks, bang out a shared calendar on boards there and see what happens.

    I'm sure the NRAI and NTSA will thank you for that sentiment...
    We do not need a third or indeed a fourth party arbitrating
    I take it I wasn't clear enough when I said "clearing house" then?
    Last I checked, having a common noticeboard to pin calendars to didn't mean that the noticeboard proceeded to arbitrate over who could run stuff when.
    NASRPC or indeed NRAI are not going to start talking about this here or else they will fall foul of Devores 95yoyo/post edict
    I do wish people who say that would actually read the thread that relates to that, because that is not what DeVore said.
    What's banned here is internecine crap and threatening to sue boards.ie because person X said something about person Y and person Y didn't like it and felt that that was grounds for a lawsuit.
    Sparks, bang out a shared calendar on boards there and see what happens.
    I thought that's what the announcements thread was for, since we don't have a google calendar type of thing in vBulletin; but what's wrong with Google Calendar?
    It's even set up for this - every club and NGB and Association could have their own calendars, and keep control of their own events, and then people just import the calendars they're interested in, and someone has a website that imports all of them so folks can see what's going on everywhere.
    UCDRC and WTSC and DURC and the NTSA already do this...

    edit: Actually, we do have a calendar - I thought it was disabled at the last update of the boards.ie software. http://boards.ie/vbulletin/calendar.php

    I'm a novice shooter and am not affiliated with the NASRPC or any other sporting pistol body so from my point of view competitions like this one are important for me to learn the finer points of the sport. Still its a pity about the clash at Lough Bo. Would like to meet the lads again and maybe get some pointers from the top shooters. Was speaking to a couple of the lads that were in Germanty the week or so before and got to see some medals. Nice.

    Anyway looking forward to the day and hope there are plenty of sandwiches (hint, hint) again.

    Very true. People should attend as many shoots as they can - not just to support the sport but to support the clubs. Keep abreast of who is holding shoots and make the effort to go attend as many of them as you can.

    I was at the last NRAI Pistol shoot in Midlands - had a good day aswell.
    If I didn't have a prior commitment I would most likely attend this one also.

    I'm not getting any practice at the moment but I know I should have done better on the skittles - I 'should' be well able to drop all 9 of them in under 9 seconds including the reload if I could get my foot out of my ar$e.

    B'Man

    PS: NASRPC is just a group of clubs - so if your club is a member - you are affiliated.

    Just like to add that I set up a Google calendar for the NASRPC and added all the dates almost a year ago.

    The purpose was to avoid clashes with other matches but unfortunately it wasn't taken on and run with.

    It's the best system for calendaring matches, because you can overlay all the calendars and immediately see if there are any clashes.

    Here's the NASRPC calendar. It even maps the venues :)

    Silly Question, probably staring me in the face, How do you overlay calenders? eg. Rathdrum and NASRPC.

    Well done with the calendar. Now if i could just get that to sync with my iphone ???
    Just noted that some of the clubs are not located at the positions suggested by your maps. Lough Bo, for instance is about 6km from where it is located on your map. This is a good source accurate Info

    To be fair, some of that was guesswork as there wasn't any data on GPS locations when I did that calendar.

    Most of them are correct, and it's easy to fix, just don't see why it should be me :P

    You just need a gmail account really. Then you add all the calendars you want and overlay them or not as you see fit.

    Cheers Sparks, just what i need a clear and precise explanation. Can you sense the sarcasm cos i'm laying it on pretty thick here. Seriously can you narrow it down to pistol bodies and who represents what groups in relation to centrefire pistol shooting/competition.

    Just so long as you realise it's not going to be a simple answer1 :pac:

    Basicly, right now, there are five NGBs doing pistol shooting in the ROI:
    • The NTSA, doing ISSF pistol shooting, mostly with air and .22 pistols;
    • The NASRPC, doing PPC1500 and similar pistol shooting;
    • The NRAI, who are running various pistol matches with various calibres;
    • The IPC, who run the tetrathlon with air pistol shooting;
    • The MPAI, who run modern pentathlon with air pistol shooting;

    Thing is, there are other matches which aren't really run under any of those NGBs, but just as club things.

    Right, just so i have it right. The club shoots like the one upcoming in the midlands would be under the "banner" of NRAI. Say a lad got good enough how would i go about shooting NASRPC (PPC1500). Would my participation in club shoots, my membership of a pistol club and shooting under the NRAI banner suffice or is there a membership fee for NASRPC.

    Sorry for all the questions but i'd like to know how it all works. There seems to be alot of different governing bodies and i would like to set a target or goal to work towards such as shooting in the PPC1500 but for the time being so i can assess my progress over the coming months (or years, God forbid :D)

    Well, I don't know the specifics of the shoot in the midlands, but say DURC had a club air pistol shoot - it'd have no involvement from the NTSA. The NGBs only get involved when it's a national or higher level competition, or if the club asks them to become involved.
    Say a lad got good enough how would i go about shooting NASRPC (PPC1500).
    Well, you'd start by shooting PPC1500 - it's not like you'd start on an NRAI shoot and "work up". It just doesn't work that way, any more than you'd start in GAA football and "work up" to soccer.
    Would my participation in club shoots, my membership of a pistol club and shooting under the NRAI banner suffice or is there a membership fee for NASRPC.
    No, you'd have to join the NASRPC, or be in an affiliated club. Ask your club secretary if you're affiliated to them.
    Sorry for all the questions
    Don't be!
    Odds are there are several people with the same questions, and they all read the answers, so you're helping by asking.

    I'm afraid, as is oft the case, this thread has gone off down the garden path, over the wall across a river and is now half way across a bog in relation to the thread topic which was about ......... oh yeah, the upcoming pistol match in Midlands.

    Hi lads. Bananna man pity you are not able to make this one you would have enjoyed the team match its 18 skittles 24 rounds between four shooters. Look lads sorry about the mix up over the dates but i did ring two other ranges before i booked the range for this match and i was told there was nothing on but there will be other matches coming up with different formats and matches in both pistol and rifle so i am sorry to those who cant make this one. Banana man this thing of under 9 seconds with a reload:D:D:D:D game on the challange is set

    GREAT idea. :)
    If it's a team shooting all at once - I can hear it now, "well I hit one with all my 6" or "I was supposed to take 3 and 5 you were to pick up 5 if I missed and then help shooter 3 with 1 and 8!!"

    Well, you'd start by shooting PPC1500 - it's not like you'd start on an NRAI shoot and "work up". It just doesn't work that way, any more than you'd start in GAA football and "work up" to soccer.

    Not necessarily true, although I get your point.

    You start by shooting in your club with other people until you are 'confident' in the use of your firearm. Other club members will give you tips and suggestions to make the experience not only safer but more enjoyable.

    Then you take part in matches in your club, informal, to get a few competitions under your belt and start to practice a discipline, any discipline. Invariably at 7 or 10 yards.

    Gradually you get 'confident' in your abilities at that range and then you push the targets further back - e.g. 15 yards - until confident at that range.

    Then 25 yards - at this stage you could look to take part in some of the PPC events (this is where I am with WA 1500.)

    And finally, the daddy - 50 yards - I have shot an informal match once at the full 50 yards but I shot about a 3 foot group - not gonna get you on page one of the results.

    So shooting a Timed and Precision detail at 25 yeards (one of the events held at the last match in Midlands) IS the correct progression to shooting full 1500 matches.
    Banana man this thing of under 9 seconds with a reload game on the challange is set

    Hopefully, I will bring my kung fu next time.

    Have a good match.

    Well, another great day. Was good fun, some familiar faces and some new. I improved a bit on my skittles from the last time (which was nice) and the new format for the bullseye shooting was testing but good. Thanks to the ROs of the midlands for the day, the lads for scoring and organising and of course the ladies of the midlands for the tea, coffee and sandwiches. Looking forward to the next one in Ballyhoara (sorry if the spelling is wrong) on the 11th October.
