M17/M18 - Gort to Tuam [open to traffic]

It would be great to have a junction like this one attached, but the one we are getting is still pretty impressive! Turbine interchange, Jacksonville, Florida.

The N17 below the word Dublin is how that is (correctly) signed. No motorway restrictions to come for another bit. However by continuing on the M17/N17 you can only access Dublin and Limerick using a motorway, hence that's why they are signed as such.

Same as the N4/N7 out of Dublin.

This junction is unique as it's the first grade separated junction on a 2+2 road to be built in the country. First of many thankfully

When open, you'll get from Gort to Tuam in approx 30mins ish, so compare that to whatever that leg of the journey currently takes you.

Beware of tractors!
You just have to be aware of them and to be ready to move into the right hand lane.

Anything in a yellow diamond in a potential hazard.

I noticed the grass / weeds on the roundabout finally being cut this morning at 7am at the Mountpotter roundabout at end of Tuam bypass. I presume they will cut all the roundabouts now as they are so over grown and unsightly.

Just after traveling the soon to be the old N18 from Gort to Mullingar, Does anyone know what the yellow signs that have N18 with a yellow post wrote on them mean? It's in Gort and Ardrahan. I asked my superior and he did not know either. I'm not able to upload a picture on this as I don't know why it won't let me.

It's the alternative route if the motorway has to shut down.
And your "superior" should of course know this for traffic management purposes.

These are old signs that were there long before the motorway

What you are referring to then is what's known as a Marker Post. It's a small 320mm sign with say N18- 1234 on it.
As far as I know these were a way of identifying short sections of road for mapping and maintenance purposes. They are being removed gradually as they are no longer required with the use of GPS and other mapping methods.

Exactly this, these are quite old (mid/late 90s). You can find quite a few on L road that were once N roads (N20 near Croom/N21 between Castleisland/Abbeyfeale). They have a fairly remarkable survival rate.

Hi All, is there an piece of concrete poured for a monument or plaque near Rathmorrissey in Athenry for the official opening ceremony?


Also I hear Galway Co Council are up in arms over the new junction numbering system on the new M17/M18 as when enter the N6 road at Doughiska its going to be Junction 20 when the Galway city bypass is built and then go out the road a for 2 miles and you have junction 19 Oranmore /Claregalway.

This is where is where it starts to get confusing for tourists who don't usually read signposts, When your approaching Rathmorrissey you take Junction 18 for Tuam and guess what you see when you approach the Roscommon exit Junction 19 once more.

This is what the Galway Co. Co. CEO is up in arms over.

junction 19 on the m17.junction 19 on the m6.two different motorways, why would the council be up in arms' i think tourists will be fine reading signs.
