So the argument for saving thousands is that they seem to think "Ah well paddy, we don't have to fix those pot holes anymore!".

This really shouldn't be an excuse to stop the already embarrsing maintenance on the roads.

The road surface in this part of the country is much better on R & L roads than on national secondaries.

Not sure why the locals are so enthusiastic for it to stay an N road.

Might be a good idea then to remame the existing N17 from Tuam to Claregalway as the N83, for the same reason.

Fantastic photos, this thing is really flying along! It looks like it's ahead of schedule to me? Open by this time next year surely?

My prediction is the august bank holiday weekend 2017. Only an opinion. No basis in fact

Because it keeps the default 100km/h limit instead of dropping to 80 km/h, I guess?

That's the roadbridge section, sisk and langans are a bit behind that I would say it will be the end of November 2017 before this motorway opens

Not sure if this discussed already but looking at a map of the area and noticed the N67 meets the existing N18 outside of Kilcolgan.Im assuming as with the N77 on the old N8 the N67 will be extended along the existing N18 to Oranmore and on into to Galway on the dual carriageway. Or will it swing south towards Gort. The Galway direction seems more logical unless there is plans to downgrade whole route ?

IMO the Kilternan junction is in the wrong place. It should have been in (the townland of) Owenbristy where it crosses the R347.

Then, you could de-trunk the existing N67 north of Kinvara, rename the R347 to the N67 as far as the junction, and the N67 then terminates at the motorway. Job done.

Also, the signs from this motorway junction would then read:

    Kinvara
    The Burren

    Great for tourism, I think.

But, that's not the way it's been done ...
