Because when I look back over the great gaming moments of my life like collecting all the Materia in Final Fantasy 7 or victories in the Civilizations/Total Wars I wont include the time I spent €1.50 on buying enough gameloft points to make a game go from completely impossible to piss easy, it doesnt really carry the same level of satisfaction, either let people play it properly for the first couple of levels and then pay if they want to carry on or display ads to make the game viable and fully playable, the direction they're heading in now for a lot of the new stuff is "Insert €2 to win game".

The problem is, these companies are trying a few different business models to see what get's people handing over their hard earned [The other problem is that the great unwashed want everything but not willing to pay for the pleasure]. Currently, most people don't want to "buy" apps for their phones. So there's a little carrot and stick in the freemium approach.

Some of these business models are now making their way over to the console market. It's a sad day. Some of these business models will kick the bucket soon. Some won't. In reality, a lot of people seem to be handing over money for the freemium apps. They wouldn't exist if there was no market.

If people stopped paying for micro transactions [where did that come from, there is nothing micro about them] then companies will stop using them.

However, people being people, they will ALWAYS choose something that is too good to be true, regardless of the realities. It's a fact of life.

I think the majority of that has to do with Piracy and Trial Play. Dead Trigger is a great example, brilliant game, developers couldn't make money of a paid version cause it was pirated so much, so with little tweaking they turned it into a freemium and make money that way. Make money of game play and not the actual game.

    What's shîte about it?

Have you used it? It's slow (although that has improved somewhat). Some images or videos don't load the preview or take some time to load it. When use the search box, it sometimes doesn't refine the search based on what you are typing. The infinite scroll thing gets stuck loading additional content and will just sit there for ever.

That's all I've got off the top of my head. It really is crap.

Its probably been mentioned before, but Vector is a fantastic parkour type game. Been having a lot of fun with it these last few days, and since the last update, it's not been getting anywhere near as much slowdown.

The official Facebook app works great on my phone. It used to be totally rubbish for a long time but they fixed it up nicely.

Maybe its not optimised properly for different phones or android versions.

It's still pretty crap, it's slow to refresh timeliness, slow to load pictures. Generally going on the web version is faster. It was the same on s3 and note 2 for me.

Its nowhere near as bad as it used to be, but still pretty slow compares to other apps.

Yep, same here. It can be a little slow at times but for the most part it's fine

I hate the Facebook app. I often have to press news feed numerous times for the option to choose most recent first. It'll stall when you are scrolling and then go berserk.
The size of the app and the updates is monstrous too. I would love to be able to delete it.

I'm using an S3 so, much like yourself, it's not a lack of horsepower that's causing it. It's one of the reasons I hope Google+ takes off, at least Google know how to make some decent apps.

if you root your phone you can delete it from the phone (assuming its bloatware that came with the phone)

I'm amazed the app works at all, and the fact they can even boast about things like this leaves little hope for the app improving.

Saw that yesterday. Basically admitting they can't write an app properly and had to hack the sh1t out of how android runs it instead of fixing their own work then trying to make it sound like a good thing.

While I'm here actually, people should give Fast for Facebook a try. It's not a bad app

I really don't want to go down that root (pun intended! :pac:)

What agreement has facebook got to make the app un-deletable unless rooted?

They don't, either the device manufacturer or your carrier will have put the application on the ROM supplied with the device as a native application thus making it impossible to uninstall it.

I usually use the browser or flipboard.

Flipbord is a nice app and you can have twitter and other feeds .
    Check it out!

just out of curiousity i have 2 questions,

What make of phone do you have

And is there any special reason for not wanting to root?

    Sony Ericsson Ray.

Because I did it with my X8 and it was effort and the phone borked not long after rooting. There's so many roms and XDA forums are a mess that I wouldn't even know where to begin this time.

yeah xda can be a bit of a nightmare.

there is a handy guide here

    http://www.android.gs/how-to-root-the-sony-ericsson-xperia-ray-running-on-android-4-0-3-ics-firmware/

seems like someone has made a standalone that does all the work for ya!

but i know once bitten twice shy but warranty does cover rooted phones so i don't blame you for being wary!

there is other options though if you wanna mess with your phone a bit to get rid of FB
