Your right, if they can't pronounce the name then they should be allowed like the music. Only real fan5 like you should be allowed in.

Of course Deadmau5 only plays his own tracks! He is NOT A DJ. He is a producer. He DOES NOT MIX music. When doing his own live sets he creates loops using Ableton and a MIDI controller to his laptop.
He is a very good producer and not a bad guy. He just doesn't care what people think of him. I've actually spoken to close acquaintances of his (his manager, PR rep etc.)

    That was a good point.

Touché. For brevity, my good man, is indeed the very soul of wit.

It think most people dislike him for his arrogance and his all round douchbaggery :pac: Its apparent this debate will rage on until the next DJ steps over into the dark side of commercialism.

Until then lets all enjoy taking the piss out of mau5 fanboys!

Never been a fan of Deadmau5 and I think he's very overrated producer. Ok, I admit that there are some decent track he produced (usually older ones: 1981, Faxing Berlin, Assorted, Complications), but most of them are repetitive, boring and the worst of all: very similar to each other.

All of his electro style releases sound exactly the same, even the lyrics are almost the same (Melle Fresh on vocals always singing about bitches, drugs, rich people... etc.)

Furthermore, he's a very arrogant person, seems like he doesn't respect anyone, so I don't understand how people like him. .....

Overated in my opinion, will give him a miss..

    Thats just my2cents :pac:

    HJ-

InitiallyI liked the guy & his music... but then began to realise all this....

I've heard this a few times before but IMO it's rubbish. I've seen him play and as well as ableton etc he dues use cdjs and mixes with cd's. Anyway, producing tracks and mixing in producing is FAR harder than regular djing. He uses a savage setup of ableton, a Xone 4d, a Monome, and some other stuff, which takes way more skill than mixing normally like any other dj. trying to say any producer can't dj is kinda silly.

FSOL have also said other acts are ****.

Running out of acts to follow. The rule now is, make music people like and give interviews people like...

Take away his gimmicky mouse head and you're left with just another producer/DJ thats had a couple of good tunes but mostly bland.

I wonder how much of his DJing success is down to the mouse costume.

All of it. Went to se him, not cos he had a few tunes I like, but solely because of the mouse thing. I once went to see U2 just to look at Bono's "fly" sunglasses.

True, I brought a few people to see him at EP last year and all they spoke about after was the costume.

Well I guess they were not fans to begin with, so that answers some of your post. I wasn't a big U2 fan, so no wonder I liked the sunglasses rather than the music. But for the vast majority there...

Now you just gotta figure what percentage of people go to see a dj they know, and what percentage get dragged by their friends, and that'll give you an idea of the percentage that like his stuff and the percentage that like the outfit.

Why we are STILL talking about Deadmau5?

Is this guy really THAT controversial for making a few bland records and wearing a mouse head that we still need to talk about two years later?

For the love of something new to bit ch about, change the record...(no pun intended :D)

Ed027 take a week off, no need for that

I absolutely agree producing takes far more skill than DJing.

Yes, he usually uses a Lemur, EFX1000 and an Allen & Heath 4D (controlling Ableton etc etc).

He hates being called a DJ. He wants to be called a Producer and not a DJ. His manager told me this!

he doesnt "create loops"he triggers premade loops.he does a few on the fly effects but on the whole its a preplanned set.
most of his equipment is for show,he doesnt use every bit of equipment that he has set up.

but please keep name dropping my estimation of you just went right up:D

    (j/k)

its that old irish affect, if you know somone personally or even know sombody who knows that person at one stage and they say their sound, THEIR SOUND

Guys, I'm not trying to be a prick or think I am some amazing sort of individual who is Deadmau5 best friend. I interviewed Deadmau5 and his rep at Virgin - I'm just providing the information that they (Joel in particular) wished to convey.

I'm sorry if I have rubbed anyone up the wrong way. I'm not delusional.

I'll second that. He pushes himself as being a producer who plays out, rather than a Producer/DJ.
