    A15 has had windows refitted to it as well as other items. It very definitely still has an engine and not only that they have managed to get it to turn-over although it hasn't actually fired up yet. Yes it is missing some parts but it is certainly very far off being an empty shell........

    I don't know whether the dual-gauge track idea will ever work or not but even if it doesn't it has at least bought time for the locos to find somewhere more suitable.

    A55 at Hell's Kitchen is engineless, perhaps some posters are getting the two confused.

    GM must have fitted thousands of these same motors in various other locos around the globe so I couldn't see there being too much a problem getting bits and pieces to rebuild one, unless there was other special traction parts that were unique to the Metrovic design.

    Once the engine block is intact then it would be no problem whatsoever, a 645 will run forever if looked after. The work being done on C226 in Carrick on Suir shows it's possible to rebuild one of these locomotives, although it's been a very slow process. With two fully functional A class locos available it probably doesn't make much sense to restore 015 to the same standard.

    About the C class, C231's engine starts but what about the rest of the loco, is it capable of moving?

    Im surprised our Northern Comerades haven't made an offer for 015, since they recently purchased the pair of 140's. At least if they got it restored they would have a better chance of getting it on railtours than any of the Irish groups for some reason.

    Downpatrick don't actually own the 141 they have though (it's on loan from the ITG). The pair of 141s were actually preserved by the RPSI (a cross border organisation as opposed to Northern). They were actually purchased for the RPSI by individuals, with the forthcoming 134 being purchased by a group of diesel enthusiasts who are also providing volunteers to maintain them. The RPSI has enough on its plate without trying to restore an A class as well. Although as Karsini said I don't think there's a real urgency to have 015 restored, what with two A class already in/close to running order. The reason the RPSI seem to have a better chance at running a diesel on railtours is simply because it's slightly more feasible for them to pay for the insurance than a diesel only organisation - the steam trips bring in revenue and can be run far more frequently than diesel ones (which are only attractive to the enthusiast market, whereas the general public will go on a steam trip). More trips = more revenue to help pay for insurance.

    071 class passed through Howth Junction around 14.40 today with Tara empties. Nice blast of the horn for yours truly !!!

    Also the Up Enterprise a few minutes later, the loco 227, which was pushing, nearly got away before I managed to get the shot !!!
