Congrats to all who got thru, and commiserations to those who did not.

    I’m delighted to say that I passed them all;
    Tax – 50%
    SFMA – 51%
    Audit – 52%
    FR – 74%

Was stunned with my FR result – didn’t think I did nearly that well. I said to myself going in that I was just going to keep it simple and basic, and it looked like it worked. One thing I’d noticed from sitting financial accounting papers in college was that even when they were worded in a complicated manner, the solution was usually quite straight forward. So luckily that approach worked for me.

I was really disappointed with Audit. Coming out I thought 75-80+ coulda been on the cards, but I knew ya can never tell with that subject, so at the end of the day I was alright with the pass.

Couldn’t be happier just to get thru SFMA.

I knew tax was going to be really close. I’d an incredibly afternoon/evening right before it and only got about half an hours worth or work done which I knew probably wouldn’t be enough. I’m definitely happy that I got a nice marker for that one.

Can’t believe there was such a drop off between pass rates…. Always thought the Prof III pass rate was closer to 50%. The breakdown of marks for the CAP 2’s were surprising. I think they had to give the pass to a lot of people on SFMA because of the screw up.

Amazed the FR pass rate was so low… I think people must have just panicked on Q1 because of the way it came up. I think just keeping your head and approaching it on a methodical, simple basis is the best approach because you can pick up a lot of marks that way.

Good luck to everyone who has to repeat!!!

There seem to be lots of people failing with percentages of 45-48. I have several friends who are modular students and has this happen with the 2 exams they took. It's ridiculous.

    Congrats to all who passed.

its odd that the cost of resitting a paper is €100 but only £70.....

And also the fact that the revision course for SFMA is free but €100/£70 for other subjects !?!? What the hell, it's €18 euro cheaper per subject for people in the north

The repeat isn't free but the revision course is... which makes no sense in my book.

If you look at the pass rates for the acca exam they are much lower than ACA!!!

30% for advanced financial reporting and 30% for Financial Management.

First congratulations to everyone that passed the CAP2's, well done!

I would like to thank you to those who sent me consolidation notes, they have been a great help already. I was also wondering does anyone have sfma notes particularly risk management i.e hedging, forwards, options and also on company valuation. Again our lecturer in belfast worked from the book and vague powerpoint slides. If so could you send them to johnnyc10@hotmail.co.uk It would be a great help as i am really struggling on hedging and risk, so even if you have ur own simple notes or notes brought into exam anything would be better at the mo. thanks guys :).

Hope everyone had a good blowout at the weekend regardless of there result!

I failed all 4 of my exams, to be honest I was shocked by Audit & tax. Now I'm facing studying again and i have not idea where to begin.
    Has anyone any suggestions ?
Also does anyone know where we can get a copy of the exams papers (summer09) and the solutions???

I'm doing up my study timetable at the moment. I think you just have to break things down and you have to go about getting some repetition in. Also look into grinds as well. You need to get these exams and paying extra money makes sense in my book. My firm has been very supportive to us over it and i've talked to people about how i should structure my time. What they all seem to say is that you should never focus exclusively on one subject per day.

I was instructed to regularly go between the topics and do a number of questions before the big day and the repetition of the question (like getting into a position where I could fly through the questions in no time before the exam).

Divide up your day between the topics.

Like 9.00-11.30 - Work on Tax - Corporation Tax.
12.00-2.30 - Work on SFMA - Variance Analysis.
3.30-6.00 - Work on Audit - Audit Reports etc.

This is assuming you can get leave from your firm.

The key topics as far as I can remember (I haven't looked into them too much just yet are:

    SFMA:
    Variance Analysis
    FX Rates and General Hedging
    Company Valuation
    Ratio Analysis

    Tax:
    Corporation Tax
    Capital Gains Tax
    Capital Acquisitions Tax
    Stamp Duty
Close Companies, Research & Development, Residency/Domicile/ other generic areas).

    Financial Reporting:
I haven't really looked too much into this one just yet, but Cash Flows, Consolidated Accounts, Construction Contracts and all of the examinable IAS' in general. I don't really know how i'll divide up my time for this one. I went into the exam not really knowing the IAS' too well and it came back to kick me in the ass. So I don't know how i'll structure my time for that.

    Audit:
This would be a difficult one to plan for I reckon. I'd consider Audit Reports, Ethical Standards, General Controls, the main testing balances like Sales, Purchases, Debtors & Creditors.

But I think a lot of it comes down to how you answer the questions as well. My method was to address the problem, address the consequence of the problem, and recommend how to correct it. I luckily got through it.

I've never really been one for planning too much before, but since i'm getting some of this crap ironed out, it's putting the amount of work I have to cover in perspective, so i'm effectively giving myself a kick up the arse now, so I have to get started soon.

    Best of luck.

    Thats great. Thanks.
I think your right about doing few subjects a day. It keeps you more focused. I didn't do it in the summer exams but I think I will this time.
Are you going to repeat your CA for SFMA?
    I did ok in the CA's so I don't think I will.
Luckly my firm have been really supportive too. I'm going on study leave on the 15th Sept so I have a few weeks to prepare for the exams. although i'm starting to study now.

Yeah I was the same during the summer. The way I had my time structured had me spending around 10 or so days without looking at one subject. I ****ed up my planning before the summer and i found myself actually forgetting the things I did.

I managed to get 12 in my SFMA so i'll be sticking with that one. If you got less than 9 I wouldn't bother repeating it as the amount of preparation you need to do will seriously eat into your study time (all for the sake of 1-3%), I don't think it'd be worth it personally.

If all goes well, with my holiday leave and some unpaid leave I'm planning to take study leave this Friday. It's such a pain though!
