Hey there, just wondering if anyone out there heard anything about the CAP2 results? e.g. is the standard very good/bad whatever?? Surely there must be some insiders out there who's heard something!!

My prediction: Pass rate of 40%-50%!!!

And the reward for those who do pass is an entry ticket into the most horrific looking FAE course known to man!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Hackysack

I'm not exactly pushed on getting mine admittedly.

Absolutely terrifed about the results on Friday. Hate that we have been the guinea pigs since the start.. whats the general feeling about Friday?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40 FAEer

VERY best of luck for Friday, I have a best bud in the same position and have to say I feel nervous for him!!

One bit of hope is that every single person that I've talked to about the CAP 2s is convinced they failed something (mostly FA and SFMA), so at least 50-60% of you will be pleasantly surprised!:)

Its a weird one, professional exams are strange, its difficult to tell how you did, last year MABF was a nightmare paper, I was sure I'd failed (although I didn't say it to people) and ended up with 72% (generous marking scheme must have helped) so my point is try if possible not to stress, you guys seem to have created a good uproar so hopefully the inequity of the papers will have been taken into account!

    Best of LUCK!!!

The CAP 1 pass rate was only 55% (for those sitting all 5 papers) and only 50% for Management Accounting, so I find it hard to believe that the CAP 2 pass rate would be higher than this. I expect it to be a good bit lower to be honest.

I don't want to get my results. Nothing to look forward to tbh.

I think the only subject they will give any consideration to is SFMA because they will not want a huge uproar about the 'similar' question in the question pack!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Little Miss Cutie

What was the story with the ''similar'' question?

Question on SFMA paper was in the question pack - but it been so big you couldnt do every question (especially as it was put up so far into study leave) so not many recognised it in the actual exam.

That sounds seriously suss! So how was it a test if you already had the question? (don't mean to apply it was easy)
The exams are open book now aren't they?

Some people had it. some didn't. Some people were told not to bother printing the pack out. Some people recognised the question, others didn't. Some people had the question pack in the exam hall, others didn't.. Open book was worse btw. You won't appreciate that unless you had sat the exams.

was the solution in the question bank aswel?

AFAIK it was. Important to note this wasn't something that we got to work on all year. They lashed up a few hundred pages well into our study leave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭Legend100

yeah heard that alright but was just thinking that if the solution was there and someone noticed it was there, will that person get 100%, I assume not id say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭maddogcollins

its a hard to one to call. They are very secretive at the moment about what is happening. Will find out friday. I assume that if you have the question right you have the question right. How are they to know if you saw the question prior or not. I certainly did not see it!(not that i will get 100% either way)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Little Miss Cutie

That sounds horrific! I tell you what I will checking if any extra FAE notes go up over the next few weeks.

That is really unfair throwing up a massive pack like that, I assume alot of people on study leave wouldn't be checking the icai site all the time or have the resources to print a massive pdf in the middle of study leave.
Best of luck to everyone on friday, I hope this totally screw up hasn't ruined anyones chances!!

It was about 2/3 weeks before the exams and I only did a few question from it as I was not spending all my time churning out 100's of questions! (nor was i going into work to print them all out!) hence was not familiar with every question.

Would be harsh if you got a high mark to assume you copied it imo, they make take the rest of you paper inot account as I assume the marks you get in each topic will be broadly similar. ie if you did amazing in that one and crap in the rest it will stand out but if did well in that one and decent enough in others then it could be your strong topic and you did not have the answer. its a minefield for them really and should have been picked up prior to the exam since it was clearly from a commonly used source.

Hi , i think the pass rate fpr cap2 this year wont too bad,

    Tax will be over 70%
Audit with continous assesment should be about 65%
MABF with the help of that continous assesment should be about 57-58%
    Financial Accounting 45%

    These are my predctioons anyway!!

Huh - "i think the pass rate fpr cap2 this year wont too bad"

Ur pediction is a pass rate overall of 45% which would be the lowest in any ICAI course in years

Crapmanjoe- I wouldn't pay much attention to this guy. He has been proven to have been trolling in the past and from what I can tell has a poor standard of english and is always looking to create a reaction.

Considering there was no MABF or Financial Accounting papers that's good going :pac:. Well done. Predict away buddy.

Any idea what time they go up at in the morning???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭Legend100

it's usually about 7 or around that. oh n it is usually a pain in the hole because the website is so busy so it takes a while to get on. My advice would be to bookmark the student centre link http://students.icai.ie/student_centre/ because it will bring you straight to where the results will be and you shouldnt have to wait. Thats what i did for my prof 3 last year and got on with no problems but I remember others who were stuck waiting for the homepage to load for half an hour.

Best of luck to ye all tomorrow

Dunno how much I believe in these rumours but apparently an email went out this morning to some managers saying that the pass rate is extremely low this year and to start considering your course of action for poor students re jobs!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Wouldn't suprise me in the slightest. The one thing I gleaned from the info evening on the new FAE course is that the institute is under the thumb of the big 4. No one else seems to even come into the equation. They are bound to get a heads up before anyone else on results.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40 FAEer

    Hey guys

True or not, I wouldn't stress in the slightest, if you're big 4 (and smaller firms depending on terms agreed) and have a 3 way contract (you/institute/firm) its written contractual entitlement that you have a second chance. We also got an email entitled 'exam tips' that said we should check our contracts:(, I'm not a fan of scare mongering! Stay positive - either way you'll know tomorrow & you can put it behind you.

    Best of luck tomorrow!!:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13 hockeygal

i agree they are under thumb of big 4 but on this occasion the email went to a small firm manager who has a friend in the institute!!! its ridic that they are allowed to say anything!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭hooch-85

I heard they got an email just explaining to them to expect the pass rates to be lower than previous years as there was no compensation between papers..

I think thats a horrible thing to say about me, i put up a few psots in the past, but thats the past!!

I just think that the low pass rates is not wahts it all cracked up to be,

45% is low but that the same in tax paper three aswell, and most people who repeat end up passing anyway!!

    So its not all bad!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Little Miss Cutie

    Congrats to all who passed.

My best mate was only doing 1, a hangover from the old Prof 3 and she didn't get it. Am very dissapointed and sad for her :(

Can't believe the pass rate for SFMA was that high!! Seems very strange

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭Onearmedbandit

I keep checking them like 10 times now already and even though my name is there I cant believe it. So happy!! Gonna be a good weeked. Congrats all

Think it was one of those exams that was difficult but in reality quite easy to get enough to pass but to do well was tough. Else because of the f&*% up with the last question they had to alter marking scheme to peoples benefit? who knows....may sound selfish but at this moment i dont care!

I would not care jsut go enjoy yourself, well done!!!!!!! :):)!!!!

I say you could be right..... about that mess up!!!!

Fincial reporting seemed very tought though?? 55% pass rate!!!

Q1 was long and if you didnt get part A done part b etc flowed from it so you were under pressure then and Q1 was worth 66% ifrc. so alot of people may have fallen down on timing rather than not actually having the knowledge.

Failed them all. Sweet. tbh the pass rates strike me as b*llsh*t, congrats to all who passed etc but I'm finding it hard to see a 72% pass rate given everything that went before. Somethings fishy IMO. Plus going from 70+ in auditing in the mocks to a fail....... Odd.

Prinz not much I can say to you just wanted to reply to you in someway.

Try to have a few drinks later and forgot about it a bit.

The pass rate is alot lower than other years and if you firm is anyway fair they will look at your mock results and realise that it was just a bad week / unfair exams.

And you can always rant on here :)

Really, I thought it was the same. What was the Prof III pass rate last year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Bella99

68% passed first time last year, down to 52% this year. Big leap down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭eoferrall

I can't really remember, but was high 80's that is in my head. but someone who sat them would know better and can correct me!

A few friends of mine got credits again this year. They had credits for CAP 1 aswell. It's just so unfortunate that that happens..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 102 ✭✭ma.long25

To be honest there are always going to be victims everyone is gonno know someone who failed and pass!!

To be honest the pass rates were a lot higher than i expected which is great... The prof three pass rate last year was 67 %

Thats pretty good but that was becasue a lot of people compensated there!!!

For prof three id say if there was no comp the pass rate would be about 20%. So count your selfves lucky all those who passed SFMA cause thats an absolute nightmare of a paper!!!

Well done again for everyone who passed and for those who failed, most people pass in the repeats!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,000 ✭✭✭Saint Sonner

F*ck this sh*t doing 1 from last year SFMA! Its a joke can't believe how hard it was and how different it was from Prof 3 circumstances came against me last year and the institute didn't give a damn! From the amount of people who got exactly 50 i've heard coming from this exam and the scandal regarding the paper i am a little suspicious of the oh so helpful ICAI!

Think i'll pack it in! Good luck to all continuing in their quest!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 Y22LLIG

Right i failed 2 exams also, Auditing & Financial Reporting, what are the steps from here in preparing for the repeats in Oct??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 84l

I failed all mine last year and had to repeat them last October, I really put the head down studied most evenings after work and at least one full day at the weekends. I took three weeks holidays before the exams to study too and I got them. The repeats are even harder than the exams you just sat so think postively work hard and hopefully ye will pass in October.

Best of luck with the study!
