Will the masses get up up off their complacent asses and do something, anything in opposition?
Don't hold your breath. It's depressing.

Are they seeking compensation? And if so why are bonuses involved?

Vote Lisbon on its merits, not some snide revenge tactic against the goverment.
Tbh, I've have more faith in being ruled by Brussels then our current shower in Dublin....
Not that Lisbon II will achieve this of course

Won't happen, shower of cronies are only there for the money and unvouched expenses and of course the inflated pensions. They really either don't give a **** or clearly don't have a clue as to running the country.

I would change that to destructive force.:(

Should we not setup a protest in the Country.

As far as I know the only people who think FFarw doing a good job are the members of FF .

There own voters have turned against them

Yes, I have. Infact, every single newspaper in the country has, RTE have...constantly highlighted the incompetitance of our government and their ability to hit those who have little/no voice/political sway.
That's beside the point, I was actually sort of agreeing with you...in a way when you said "Don't hold your breath. It's depressing." As in, no matter how much we'll whinge on boards, to our friends and anyone who will listen, there will be no huge action like you'd see any day in France. Us Irish just bend and sway, it's been seeded in our society for years.
When the government do have to make hard decisions that would save alot of money, like reducing public sector jobs or other major inefficiencies, the unions strike, tarnishing our already **** international reputation. The government don't have the balls to stand up to the unions. So instead, they're forced to nitpick these little things. Don't take all this at face value, especially what the Indo says, it's a tabloid in a broadsheet guise. There's reasons the government had to resort to this. The greed of the unions and workers, and our governments lack of patriotism, wits, balls and caring only for their dwindling political position. They don't want another fiasco like the medical cards being means tested for the elderly, which I felt was perfectly fair. Some very wealthy old people out there who don't need it as much as other people.

Aye - just as long as they get their continuing perks! :(

Note Jackie Healy Rea's for example: his expenses last time for the 12 months was €89,000
This time round in six months his amount is already up to nearly €70,000

    Absolutely. :)

Another things I have been reading/hearing in the media is the NAMA issue.
From all (and I mean "all") accounts, this thing is turning into one almighty fcuk-up already.
One aspect alone, they forgot to allow, legislate for businesses that are already in trouble with banks so as the businesses sink, the bank will still get the money from the non-paid loans - guess who from - the tax payer.

Now we are not talking about small change here. We are talking BILLIONS... So much so that not one has been able to even guess how much the banks (and subsequently, it investors!!!) are going to further benefit at the cost to the rest of the public in extra taxes.

For example. one article amid many...

    14uchhu.jpg

    Fcuking madness.

No wonder the government is gagging those running things by state order!
We have reached a scary point of no return if they get away with doing that alone!
    The future implications are horrendous.

Do online polls, petitions, or marches make a difference I wonder? Does it make the media take notice and try gather momentum from there?

Do you think it is possible to cause change or are all these a waste of time.

Nobody seems to care much of how this country is being governed, as long as 'Ím alright'. I wonder if it is any different in other countries?

Well its at times like the present that I wish we were as active in peaceful protest as the French to begin with!

The reason why the fcuks are getting away with it so far is that they know at the end of the day, there is feck all chance of them being held accountable under the present lacklustre, too complacent sheep of this country.

At least those stuck in a certain Thomas Cook office tonight barricaded in, are making a stand for their issues (any issues, it don't have to be government related one).
People might not agree with their issues - but I for one congratulate them and their willingness to stand up and make some peaceful noise!
