Has anybody got problems with anti-social behaviour in Newhaven estate, Balbriggan? I know I have.

Please keep a log of anything suspicious in the estate and let the Gardaí know so they can build up a dossier of information. We need this estate to be taken back by the residents. We need to do it now.

Please share any information in this thread. But please do not mention any names.

The two community Gardaí involved with the residents are Kate Daly and Gerrit Durnin.

Newhaven is at the top of Hamlet Lane on the North end of Balbriggan. It is a private estate of houses and apartments. It is a place with the potential to be a great neighborhood. It is currently experiencing a few problems with three houses which are rented out.

Cheers, I moved out of Balbriggan 12/13 years ago, the size of the place has exploded in that time.

no prob was talking to a couple of my friends last night and the one thing they said is that there appears to be cars speeding up and down the road on the flemington lane side of the cul de sac and they heard the gardai were up last weekend. They hadnt heard of anything else in the estate or of problems with rented houses

I dont know much about newhaven but its not a good idea to advertise the problems so publically there. Especially if the houses are private. If they are public council then your just adding to the stigma,

The anti-social behaviour is really getting out of hand.

I heard there was a residents meeting but myself and our neighbours were not informed which we were not pleased about.

We are having a lot of trouble but I wont go into the details here.

To be honest, realistically what can be done?

My friends mostly live in the Flemington lane side of the estate and they dont seem to be having too much hastle, they mostly complain about all the people just walking through the estate from Dunnes and the litter that they throw away,

I live in the middle of the estate and its gotten really bad.

oh no you poor thing, I have walked up to see friends a few times and it looks like a really nice estate, so much more so than others around the town

Well I have had my car damaged. A neighbour further into the estate had a shovel put through his window and bottles smashed against his wall. Another neighbour has had her house pelted with eggs and regularly finds broken bottles outside her house at weekends. Trees in the estate have been broken down. Graffiti has appeared on some peoples houses. Drug deals have been witnessed. Young teen schoolgirls have been seen on the mitch in a certain house of ill repute during school hours. They have been escorted out by Gardaí a few times.

This is a small estate with more than it's fair share of problems.

and that is not even half of what is going on, on a weekly basis.

I have lived in New Haven since 2003 and have not seen any anti social behaviour or problems in my time there.

I live on the Flemington lane side.

The original post was dated two years ago. All the problems were on the Hamlet Lane side. The problems have been dealt with and there are no problems there now. In fact i would recommend the estate to anybody who would like to move to Balbriggan.

I live on the Hamlet Lane side and all is good. I live around the big green and you get kids there playing football but I have no issues with this. It dose seem to be a bottle neck of a meeting place for teenie boppers from time to time but nothing to worry about. We have been here since 2005.

The builder seems to have given up maintaining the common green areas and the council won't do anything until the estate is properly handed over to them.

As the green areas are getting out of hand with growth would the residents association have any interest in trying to organise possibly a farmer or someone of that ilk to come in and cut the grass?

I know some residents have tried to maintain the green areas but domestic lawnmowers just won't cut it.

If the residents chip in together I doubt it would cost too much.

If you are having difficultly finding out who is on the Residents Association, ring Balbriggan Garda Station and leave a message for the attention of the community Gardaí. There have been a lot of changes with the community Gardaí in Balbriggan, and who looks after what estate has changed. Also they do not work in twos anymore - only individually. But if you leave a message, someone will get back to you. The other alternative will be to write in c/o the Superintendent, and your query will be passed directly to someone to respond to you. Hope this helps.

Seeing as everyone here is from New Haven can i ask what the options for Broadband are? Just moved in over the weekend

Can anyone in New Haven tell me are the visitors car spaces for visitors only or can residents use them? Seems strange that visitors have more right to them than people paying rent?

Welcome to the estate.

Vodafone do decent broadband in the area.

Anyone can use the visitor spaces but people "might" complain if you park in them all the time as where would visitors park.

For the 2 beadroom houses they are allocated 1 car space, 2 spaces for 3 bedroom houses.

I use WiMax myself. The transmitter is on top of Castlemill so the signal is good. I was with Eircom. BT and Vodafone and fined Wimax better.

I seen Tommy's business partner around on Sunday with some other guy. I wonder are they going to cut the grass soon.;)
