I know some posters are adamant they won't buy a membership, (I haven't yet either) however for the cost of a membership with the tipping included, I think it is about 17.00 a month.

Wouldn't that pay for itself immediately in a case like this, depending on your wager size?

By the time I determine which is the horse, I have already lost a few points, which on a day like today when we have a winner could cost upwards of a hundred or so.

Doesn't it make sense to buy a tipping membership?

The tip was posted at 12-05 and it couldnt have been released any earlier than 12-03 since it was still 9/1 and 10/1 at that time with 4 bookies at that time. You wont do much better than that. 2 minutes to get the tip and post it, is pretty good in my book.

Its only £7-50 a month for the tips according to this.

I wonder how it shows up on your bank statement though. My bank manager was asking me about Pokerstars last year. If he sees RacingPost direct debits he will cut me off............... lol

why is tom segal so good at doing irish tips and has he always done them or only since pwe started.
1- is it an irish conspiracy brought on by the paper being bought by an irish equity firm in 2007.
2- are the bookies too lazy to price up the races correctly leaving value picks easier to find. :)

I think it's more to do with your second point.
I haven't made any study of it but it seems like there are usually many more runners in Irish fields (it looks especially marked in INH because UK fields are often tiny).
Does anyone know the average field sizes?
That has to make it easier for layers to offer value - for that reason I like big heritage and handicap class 2's on a Saturday during the flat season.
Handicap hurdles I wouldn't usually go anywhere near and I'm always wary when the pw selection runs in one.

the tip was up noticeably late yeasterday. I had been sitting refreshing the page because i do have a subscription and it was about 12 03 when it came up. I couldnt have moved any quicker and the price was cut to 10s (it was quoted as a 14/1 shot) People do get the tips up quicky, im taking a break from it now but ill be back in a new way soon posting them. But if people like pizzor are going to complain about it being a couple of mins late just pay for it! I split it with a mate so it costs next to nothing and pays for itself. When I was posting them up here my priority was to get my bet on first and then post it up so its obviously not going to be up the second it somes out on the website.

I take your point about handicap hurdles i enjoy watching them though. TS excels at the big heritage handicaps on the flat in england but just about anything at all in ireland. i don't know the answer to it apart from bookies offering literally twice the price about some runners that mr segal can teach how to find so long as we are paying attention at the back. the mans not normal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭slothrop

Yes, he has a good opinion - worth following - in races I wouldn't dare to have even a little speculative pick.
We need the book; it would be interesting to know if there was a 'segal' approach. I've read a few books over the years and in truth they havent exactly been anything more than guides.
And the front few pages of the Post is often as good a guide as any of the writers.
Nick Mordin can be worth reading. His theory about Novice Chasers that open their careers with a 129 Racing Post Rating is doing okay at the moment.

Here's to today's shot - good luck to us all.

folkstone 2.40 Far More Serious, yep 5.00

(someone is having a punt on Pur De Sivola and Pistol Desbois in that race)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 241 ✭✭pizzor

the website has been late 3 times in a row now

what are you saying, theres a bias toward the premium rate phone line ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,135 ✭✭✭POINTBREAK

This is an odd one. 3/1 on the tissue price. Opened 3/1 on Betfair and drifted until tipped, was 8 at one stage, and still available to back at 5/1........ It stinks............ (usually when I say that they canter in )

    http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/folkestone/14:40/bet-history/pistol-desbois/today

Pistol was 16/1 this morning. 7/1 13/2 now

The main volume of money on betfair is for this one. Ours is on the drift again.

It looks like someone thinks Pistol Desbois has had his jumping problems fixed.
