not saying i dont agree...but, the 90's is near 20 years ago. thats an entire generation again.
1990 is nearly 20 years ago. Given the demographic of Boards members, some of the people here making the "get off my damn lawn!" comments were aged about eight in 1996. LOL
but with all the peadophile things surfacing the last 20 something years, it is a fact that parents have been alot more carefull. (over-protective even)
Wow... There are people who think paedophilia hasn't always been a reality?!

i said surfacing dudess :) i know it has been around since god knows how long, just never as much spoken of.
Im originaly from Belgium which is pretty much The country of peadophilia (up untill Mr Fritz),
and it wasnt untill the whole Dutroux case that people started escorting their kids to slides etc on playgrounds or even dropping them off to school, while before that we were just to get on our bikes and fck off ourselves.

Oh no, that wasn't directed at you. :)
I'd imagine there are people who think paedophilia is a "new thing", "didn't exist in my day" etc... The fear of some stranger kidnapping a child has eclipsed the fear of it being at the hands of a relative (which is a far greater likelihood).

no offence taken btw /hugs ^^
and again i agree, if molestation was to happen it would probably be in within the family, but then again, what mother would want to see her own father as a hazard.

well i dont know what was told about it in Ireland at the time, but ever since i moved here i been reminded every now and again that Belgium hasnt got the best of reputations regarding adult males and kids...

Wow, because of one case (if unbelievably horrific) people here keep telling you Belgium is a paedo paradise?! And ditto Austria? Unbelievable!
Have they forgotten the amount of child abusing priests in Ireland? (Not that that makes Ireland a paedo paradise - I'm sure there's pretty much the same amount in every country, although culture might dictate the likelihood of these feelings being acted upon...)

On a serious note, does anyone else think the level of spelling and grammer in the kids of this country has gone atrocious? It's because they're not made read anymore.
    And textspeak.

Love it when people use incorrect spelling and grammar while giving lectures about the same. :pac:

Man the world is gone to ****
The world has always been sh1t.
It could also be that parents can't seem to publicly discipline (physically) children any more for fears of being accused of assault or such. Also Schools can't touch children for fear of being sued... Physical punishment is on the way out (if its not already gone). Which I say is a shame.
Thank Christ schools don't have the power to inflict physical punishment on a child.
    Whatever happened to childhood?
    We're all scared of the kids in our neighboorhood;
They're not small, charming and harmless,
They're a violent bunch of bastard little ****s.
And anyone who looks younger than me
Makes me check for my wallet, my phone and my keys,
And I'm tired of being tired out
Always being on the lookout for thieving gits.

    We're all wondering how we ended up so scared;
We spent ten long years teaching our kids not to care
And that "there's no such thing as society" anyway,
And all the rich folks act surprised
When all sense of community dies,
But you just closed your eyes to the other sidev Of all the things that she did.
    Thatcher ****ed the kids.

And it seems a little bit rich to me,
The way the rich only ever talk of charity
In times like the seventies, the broken down economy
Meant even the upper tier was needing some help.
But as soon as things look brighter,
Yeah the grin gets wider and the grip gets tighter,
And for every teenage tracksuit mugger
There's a guy in a suit who wouldn't lift a finger for anybody else.

You've got a generation raised on the welfare state,
Enjoyed all its benefits and did just great,
But as soon as they were settled as the richest of the rich,
They kicked away the ladder, told the rest of us that life's a bitch.
And it's no surprise that all the ****-ups
Didn't show up until the kids had grown up.
But when no one ever smiles or ever helps a stranger,
Is it any ****ing wonder our society's in danger of collapse?

So all the kids are bastards,
But don't blame them, yeah, they learn by example.
Blame the folks who sold the future for the highest bid:
That's right, Thatcher ****ed the kids.

Frank Turner; Thatcher ****ed the Kids
Was it Haughey who messed up things for kids in this country? :pac:
so...who'd like to be a teacher now?
"Oh teachers have it so easy with all their holidays, short days, €60,000 a year etc..."

Nah, I'd say kids are worse than ever today, but no point in fooling ourselves things were paradise up to a mere decade ago. These things don't happen overnight.

I think there is more of a tabloid-driven paedo-hysteria that informs people's behavior these days, even if the actual level of sex crimes is (I confess I don't really know if it is) the same. Maybe it's just the comparatively global reach of the media compared to that of my childhood in the 70s/80s.

As for the brats thing, a lot of otherwise OK kids are, especially when they're tired or cranky in adult environments like supermarkets. It doesn't mean they'll all grow up to be little Hitlers or that the parent is neglectful, no matter what snap value judgments people may make about their clothing or what the children are eating.

    I state my case....

anyway its true dudess, sad that for 1 case it gets so blown out of proportion while it happens all over the world.

refering to previous thread on an 8 year old girl being married to a 50 year old man in saudi arabia. (cba to go look for it and link it XD)
