the company doing it is www.autoremap.ie (Martin comes highly recommended)

    http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8455

please post up here if you want to get it done, the standard price is 350e but with a few we will get it for approx 300e or maybe a little less depending on numbers.

I'd be interested, but his site gives little or no information on what type of remap he does. Is he using off the shelf menu chosen maps, or custom maps? Does he map for specific engine upgrades as well as standard engines? Does he map for the variance of fuel octane across Europe?

I'm interested in a map, and I was going to get one done by MTH as they do all the above, but there's internal problems in the company and they're all but impossible to contact now. If I were to get something done, it would need to be all of the above TBH.

im not too sure tbh, i'd say its a generic map to sit your car as in we dnt need to upgrade anything for it. now i'd class it as a different type of map compared to when i was getting my evo mapped!

this would be more aimed at people with standard cars, mainly turbo diesel but petrols can be done too, who want more power without serious modding.

Depending on the answers to Ned's good questions, I'd consider this too.

    rgunning: 06 E90 320d Manual (163BHP)

Also, do remaps get flashed out when you take the car for a service?

Depending on the service, yes. It's not uncommon for cars to receive periodic software updates when it's in for servicing. If that occurs, the car will be remapped to the manufacturers specifications - and you'll need another trip to Dublin to get it remapped again.

i wouldnt say that would be an issue with the older ones , but that poster with the 06 e90 - your remap has a chance of being wiped out

same car as myself, your looking at 195bhp and nearly 400Nm of torques after the remap!
you dont need to change anything, the main thing in your question is that its not reversed by a dealer update.

i will double check with www.autoremap.ie about this issue, but when i had my evo mapped by Ai Autosport, any updates or dealer OBD checks didnt affect the map or notice it there.

I may be interested depending on what can be done and how much it costs. Specifically looking for improvements in low to mid range power band and mpg rather than increased top speed.

2006 Volvo S40 1.6 diesel (PSA HDi engine).

Worth remembering that remapping your car will invalidate the warranty. Not a problem if your car is already out of warranty though.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,663 ✭✭✭stealthyspeeder

Is there a way to check if he can remap your car? (I think there is only one place in the UK that can remap a Mazda 3 MPS)

I dont believe your warrenty gives you any extra torque or bhp!!:D

True, ...but I'm sure all the bhp and torque in the world won't be worth a sh!te to you if something expensive goes on the car and the dealer shrugs it off saying that it's your problem as the warranty is null and void. ;):D
Technically, you also need to inform your insurance company too........but I'd be surprised if anyone bother's, I know that I certainly didn't for any of my remapped cars.:P

    standard 110bhp & 240Nm torques,
    after remap 135bhp & 300Nm torques.

within the mid range pull is where you will notice the improvement most, overtaking etc etc

It's generally done through the OBDII port in your car and overwrites the factory settings held in the ecu.

mazda 3 MPS cant be done, my mate has one. your looking at an aftermarket ECU if possible, dont even know if its available yet. theres a 3 MPS forum in the UK and i think a few of them have managed to map the cars, but you would have to travel to England, dont think the mapper will come over here, even if all 3 irish owners wanted it done:p
    elexes wrote: »

NO, its a remap through the OBD port, exactly the same way in which ECUTEK mapped evos or imprezas can be done, but not with as much play as its not needed unless you have some serious modding done! more suited for the average driver witha standard car.

    What is remapping?
Remapping is overwriting original software contained inside a cars ECU (Engine Control Unit) with tuned software. This software is referred to as the engine map because it is this program that controls the engine. Before the advent of serial port remapping the only way to overwrite this software was to replace the chip that contained the software. Now this can all be done by plugging in to the vehicles serial port and overwrite the engine map with the performance version. Remapping is not a gimmick it is a performance conversion that will seriously improve the power & drivability of your engine.

    205 bhp and 310Nm torques (+12bhp & 30Nm)
not such a big gain on the petrol NA cars, but i would imagine the driveability would greatly be improved.
