Naming someone like that could end up with them taking you for a lot more then 500 if you are not careful. The burden of proof is on you at that point. Also, Sickpuppet, suggesting you'd go round and beat them up makes you look foolish if you dont do it; and makes you look foolish and guilty of premeditated assault if you do. I know, those cops and laws are such a pain. :rolleyes:

If you out him, you have no cards left to play so it should only be a revenge thing, why would anyone like them pay you after you have already done your worst?

Point him at this thread and try and get your money back, if not then create a blog and out him there if you still feel aggrieved (which I would).

Sorry to hear about your situation.

I dont know if this would be helpful but this is what i used to try to get money back from an ex boyfriend it was considerably more than 500 Euros but maybe it will help.

I went to meet him personally in his home and when i spoke to him i made it clear that i was not happy to leave, unless i had at least partial repayment or and a written statement of promised repayment with terms and conditions. Be civil and firm.

Unfortunately in Ireland the small claims court cannot be used for debt as far as i understand otherwise you could quite cheaply get your money back.

But there are other things you can do for 55 euro i got a solicitor to write him a letter ( no meeting with the solicitor was needed and so no further fee was required) , it is surprising how a letter from a solicitor can change someones attitude. And 55 for 500 does not seem too bad. Paul .W Tracey. solicitors in Dublin do this and you can just ring and ask for a letter to be sent as far as i know. I think you can even order them online. They have a website.

If he promises to pay with excuses like i just have to send it get it to you etc offer to go round and pick it up. If he says he just does not have it right now then simply offer to allow him to pay in installments you can have it set up at a credit union or something. Sometimes when someone has to pay something to a organization rather than an individual they react differently.

As regards naming him i would say this, What would it accomplish??? If he was scrupulous about his reputation the likely hood is he would have repaid you by now. And people forget names so i would not count on people remembering it to avoid. If you out him it may in fact make it more difficult to get your money back. As he could make a counter claim regarding slander or whatever.

Remember from what you said in your post if i have this right he has not actually refused to pay but is being clever about it and putting it off. You had no time scheme on repayment of this loan ( i could be wrong but that is what i gathered) he could turn around and say he fully intended to still pay you back!!

It sounds as if your generosity has been abused so i really hope you do try to get it back.

Barring him from your future events sounds like a first step. (although getting your business in any way involved over a personal loan may not be a good idea i dont know, you will know best:-)

Maybe if he is a regular poster he will have read this and thought he should pay up!! AND HE SHOULD!!! Maybe that is what you intended. IT would probably be a whole lot less painful for him if he did.:-)

Jp, you have to look at this from two sides.

On a personal level this is not nice and expecially when its clear that the person has had ample time, opportunity and the money to pay you. I would find it hard not to out the person.

On the business side of things you have to weigh up the pros and cons of any action you might take. If this guy is friendly with a lot of other customers of yours, then you need to thread carefully and make sure that this would not cost you in the long term. I've only met you once or twice but I know from what I've heard that you are one of the most respected and from personally meeting you one of the nicer people that I've come across on the poker scene.

Personally I would go up to this person every time I see them and ask loudly enough to be overheard for my money and mention how long I've been waiting for it. I'd also let all my friends know about it and tell them to spread the word.
I don't personally like the idea of outing someone on a forum. I don't think it accomplishes much and not even as much as what I've said in my previous paragraph.

Someone mentions the legal letter, well I would be unwilling to spend one cent on trying to get this money back as if he hasn't given it to you at this stage, I don't see how any threats of legal action will improve your chances and will only leave you out of pocket a few more euro.
Personally I would not out him on a forum but let the word spread through friends. I'd warn anybody I ever see in conversation with the guy that he is likely to tap them up and they'll never get it back.

By the way, you only have to uniquely identify someone to a reasonable degree to cause problems. Putting up an anagram of his name is definitely passed that line.

To be honest, I think JP has enough suggestions to work with here and make his own decision.
