    • Contact your local club (or the closest one to local)
    • GO and have a look and check out the equipment they use
    • Maybe have a go under the tuition of someone who is experienced
    • Make an informed decision on what type of firearm would suit your needs
    • You need a valid reason to own a firearm, target shooting or hunting, so you will probably need to join a range and/or get permission from a few landowners or join a hunting gun club.
    • Go to or ring a few firearms dealers to get the best price for that type of firearm
    • Place a deposit on the firearm
    • Bring your proof of purchase (which will have firearms info and serial number) along with your range membership and landowners permission to the local Garda Station.
    • Ask for the Garda who deals with firearms license applications.
    • Fill out the forms.
    • The Superintendent may ask you to put in security measures. You may get a visit from a Crime Prevention Officer to access your home and make security recommendations. These include safes, alarms, secure doors and windows etc.
    • Make these changes and then wait for the paper work to be completed.

OK so this is what I do before putting a scope on any gun and to check that a new scope's cross-hair is in the centre.

I have at last found a way to get a cheap caller made up with easy to get bits. It worked well with any input from MP3 player, CD player, phone.

Came across this in my Interweb travels. It's an online safety, knowledge and information course on shotguns. It's on the Remmington website and judging by the first few minutes of it, it looks quite interesting. It would be great for anyone starting off and wanted to understand someting about guns, cartridges, chokes etc.

Tired of having the missus give out all the blood and bits and somtimes smell hanging around your car after transporting a shot deer carcass or game?
Fed up of your kit being soaked?Your muddy hound after a days shooting prancing around inside the car and ruining the upholstery? An emergency sleeping bag cover?Need to move generally sloppy stuff around, and thousand and one other jobs.
Get onto the internet or if you are brave down to your local undertaker...and purchase a NEW:eek: bodybag.Or if you are a bit of a cheapskate search the net for surplus army bodybags. This BTW does not mean that somone has been transported in one either in case you are worried....Well Cevat Emptor on this one:D
Basically these marvellous things are tough, waterproof, relatively cheap compared to their commerical counterparts which can run to really crazy money. They have plenty of sturdy grab handles for transport and carry.Dont need much attention, simply hose out,and maybe scrub down with disenfectant, are easily foldable and storable. If you sell your car or 4WD,you dont have to go and re buy a custom and expensive boot liner anymore.
And finally should you shuffle off the mortal coil whilst out shooting,it can be put to it's original use to transport you on part of your final journey.;):D

Imagine someone seeing you trying to stuff it in ha. The men in white coats would be around.
Good tip though, have the problem with the dog.

Make sure you dont zip the dog in totally! Leave his head out so he can breathe.Ditto the same with the carcass.Of course you wont fit in the antlers and head ,but if you can fit a roe deer in a rucksack........

I had a pair of 50 watt Hella FF 50 car spot lamps and being a tight old sod I made a foxing lamping out of one of them. This is good for 150m as is but the range can be extended by fitting a 50 watt H7 lamp that gives out 80% more light - get them off E bay or Halfords.

This lamp is used to take that final shot. We locate the fox first by scaning and sweeping the fields using a Lightforce 170 with dimmer.

    Lads

If you can get a container like this one......

    223001.jpg

from builders, they used to contain plasticizer and a consaw and cut one of the sides off the tank (the sides are rounded), about 6" in, it'll leave you with a nice lip to prevent spillage.

You should be able to get 2 trays from 1 tank.

And remember, get an adult to help you with the scissors.................

OK I have found this place in the UK that sells stainless steel nuts, bolts etc.............. and placed an order for some 2.5mm x 8mm hex screws for my scope mounts.
You can order as little or many as you need and postage is small.

Here are 2 Coillte type No Entry Signs that you can use for putting on the entrances to Coillte lands.
They are the required full size 400mm x 600mm and are both the same but in different file formats.

Save the file and either print out, you'll need a big printer, or take the saved file to an office supply shop or printers.

To save the file to your PC Right Click the file or image and click "Save Target As" or "Save Picture As".

Here is a guide for using a shim under the mounts to give you extra elevation on your scopes.
Use a cut up feeler gauge for the shim and you will have the correct thickness shim.

    Bushnell Scopes made the data.

in these recesion times money is scarce and, if like me you enjoy your shooting but are cash strapped, with out enough money to buy an electronic called for foxes or are not skilled enough to call with your hand. you can always use polystyrene you get from packaging and rub it on your vehicle window and it will make a squeking noise like a rabbit

Try taking the little valve out of the toy and just blow trough it, you can get a wide range of sounds out of it and it can work very well

funny how everything repeats itself, this was standard procedure back in the seventies when I started lamping, off you went with an empty bottle and a piece of polystyrene and a shotgun-there was no money back then either:D

im not old enough to remeber then but im told thtas what people did, and it was as successful as using an electronic caller, what was the bottle for?

Rubbing polystyrene on glass makes a very convincing 'rabbit in distress' squealing sound; not sure if the bottle was just a convenient source of glass, or if it served some other purpose.

Whats even handier is a little vanity mirror. Rob one off your other half. She'l probably have lots and wont miss it:) or do what i did, bang your head off sunvisor whilst getting into the car, then strike the sunvisor wit fist. If the car is a mazda it should just pop out:):D

Well done bazza glad it worked for you, when we lamp we always bring the shot gun along and have got a nice few with the shot gun using that little valve. The best thing about them is you can loose it then just back into a pound shop and get another for a euro, another one i use is a blade of thick grass between the your thumbs and blow trough it can work as-well, recession on :D.
