Starn, this is all a bit rich coming from you after you personally abused me in a PM only last week dont ya think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭starn

    No

I dont run a forum and moderate it like my own little feifedom. Banning posters because I dont agree with them or demanding other users real names "because Im a mod and im allowed"

Doesn't matter, rules are rules for all to obeyed.

This is not my forum but if someone posted a thread like this in the forum I moderate it would get moved straight to feedback/help desk

There are already 2 threads there about it, that not enough?

So why isnt MC following them. He should go back to Stormfront

Seamus has told us to basically sort it out among ourselfs. So Im going to ask the Mods to start a thread with a open poll [Where we can see who is voting, and who they have voted for] asking if MC should stay on as a Mod. If the majority of people thing he should stay on I'll say fair enough. But I think if the majority of posters say he should go he should go:)

The rules for hosted forums are different than normal fora.

That's not exactly the kind of "sorting it out" I meant. :) A poll doesn't really say anything without the input of the other moderators IMO.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭starn

Thats fair enough Seamus. But can you please tell us had this been one of the real forums. Would you still allow MC to MOD

its posted under the name of boards.ie, and its content is hosted by boards.ie

So why don't the rules of boards.ie apply?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

Why is CT a hosted forum anyway? Unless I'm missing the point of the hosted forums, most of them seem to be related to businesses, ie radio stations, sports clubs etc. Why isn't CT a 'normal' forum so to speak?

Or Seamus could just delete all of this stuff and give folk something to really talk about

Away with you and your boring ideas!

Mob justice for the win. Its what seamus suggested anyway!

Aye, I suggest we follow Seamus' idea and start cracking people's heads open and feasting on the goo inside.

I think it was a new mod who didn't understand how to fully use the mod controls

Or that he was a plant by Admins and SMods to stir up some controversy in the forum

Its not just this. There have been other insrances such as DEMANDING that a poster revel there real name. CT claimed he was perfectly entitiled to know this as a Mod. The guy is on a constant power trip and need to be repremanded, removed or asked to step down.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. It's not up to the mod to do that kind of work, he should have requested a Smod to look into his suspicions if he had any. However, he was not to know this, and I have not talked with him about this. He was within his rights to find out if the user was a re-reg but should have gone through a higher mod, ie - me. This is due to him not knowing the procedures, yes, but does not make him unfit to mod as it is procedural imo. I am also to blame for not speaking with him about it.

You're not content with one of the basic, underlying concepts of modern democracy - the secret ballot.

You're not even content with knowing who voted...for whatever reason you'd want to know that for.

No...rather you want complete knowledge of who expressed an opinion each way.

Big Brother may not be watching us, but you apparently want to.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭starn

No Im asking for a open ballot. Otherwise me and my secret cabal could just create dozens of false accounts and vote for Mohatmia to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,357 ✭✭✭✭SteelyDanJalapeno

Ignorance of procedure on his behalf isn't really an excuse in my opinion,

He's a mod, i think he should know procedure

Yes, because mods are born with inherent procedure manuals embedded into their brainskins..

And yet I've never once seen a new Mod on any other boards forum, delete a thread because it exposed their racism, and then ban a user for giggles.

In fairness, you wouldn't have seen the deleted threads because they were deleted. There have been cases where mods banned people for giggles. I can't link to any situations though, but I'm very sure it has happened.

There is, yeah, but not actually for Hosted mods afaik as it is not visible to them. But that's a great point, I'll get on to copying some threads to the HMod forum and start a ZATAOM thread there shortly.

I'm quite confused by this "hosted" vs "normal" boards.ie forums stuff, so I started a thread here.
It seems that the normal boards mods seem to like to let the hosted people have their own little sandbox but today obviously there's been some overspill of hosted sand into the main sandbox.

No now your trying to twist my words. Seamus washed his hands the incident and suggested that we sort it out between ourselfs.

I agree we your post in the other thread regarding the charter. But the mod invovled obiouslty abused there power and hasnt apologised to The Econimist. This is no the first time the mod involved has done so and im sure it wont be the last.

Not really. I was trying to show that I don't like your idea. I take your point about the risk of sock-puppet accounts and the like, but at best that calls for knowing who voted.

There is no valid reason that I can see for needing to know what way people voted. This forum is divided enough.
Seamus washed his hands the incident and suggested that we sort it out between ourselfs.
And so it should become a popularity contest? Because make no mistake...that's what it will mostly be, if it comes to a vote. Those who are pro-conspiracy will mostly vote for keeping MC, and those who are anti- will mostly vote to get rid of him.

Hmmm...maybe that is a valid reason to have an open vote...we could see that my prediction is right, then whoever didn't like the result could argue that it should be thrown out on the grounds that the forum policy shouldn't be "mob rule" by "pros" or "antis".
But the mod invovled obiouslty abused there power and hasnt apologised to The Econimist. This is no the first time the mod involved has done so and im sure it wont be the last.
You'll notice that I've avoided commenting on his actions, nor have I tried to prevent the discussion from continuing.

I'm merely pointing out that I don't think the current approach offers any good solutions.

I have and realsise that you have to be completely nuetral. I think it is a little unfair discussing this without MC. Im probably more guilty of this then anyone else. So until MC logs on and posts Im going to stop judging him in his abscence.

I also think you have a made a very good point about a vote. The Boards mods have really left you so swing with this one. Its going to be hard to resolve and your right the charter is the best place to do start.

But I dont think MC can continue Modding the way he has been
