New coffee shop in Tralee called Park Gate opened last week, they know what they're doing, not as far a drive as Dingle either for a good coffee as there is zero places to get coffee in Killarney, pathetic at this stage there's nowhere in town

curious Cat? Black sheep Hostel? Lis? Petit Delice? Cafe du Parc?

I find all of them can be good, depending on if the barista either knows what they are doing or gives a crap....

To be honest none of those are really good, they are barely average, but they are not specialising in coffee so no hate there, it's just not their goal.

If you want to try good coffee from proper coffee shops dedicated solely to serving coffee then give Park Gate in Tralee a go also Bookshelf, Bean and My Boy Blue in Dingle. And if you're in Cork then try Soma, Filter, Alchemy, Nector. Once you go beyond Cork even the level of quality coffee roasters in Ireland is really high!

99.9% of places in Killarney use terrible beans and don't have the passion for coffee to do it right. You'll see a major difference if you try these shops!

Heading to Killarney tomorrow with my wife for 2 days for our summer holiday. Any really nice restaurants you could recommend?

The Tanyard in the Plaza hotel. Treyvauds. Lord Kenmares. Robertinos. The Europe hotel. They're the ones off the top of my head where I've had really good experiences. The Tanyard the pick of the bunch with the Europe a close second.

I personally wouldn't recommend the Plaza. Have ate there 3-4 times for various different things and the food in my opinion is average at best. Can't beat it for location for sure but better dining options IMO.

Would be in stark contrast to what I experienced for dinner in the Tanyard at the plaza tbh. If you mean the bar area or cafe du parc, I agree and I wouldn't recommend it but I'd have no hesitation recommending the tanyard upstairs tbh.

I spose it would be very boring if we all had the same opinion though.

Lookiing for help on bringing stuff to the Dump in coolcashlagh.

Ending up with load of Cardboard boxes from the Xmas - too much for weekly bins. Is it free to drop up cardboard??

Also —— is electrical stuff free??? Have they a facility fir electrical recycling

Finally—— what about metals etc. have a swing, clothes line, to dump. How is that handled.

Otherwise how do they charge for rubbish. Last time I went up there (10++ years ago) it was charged per car load. Is that still the case...

    Thanks for the help.....

Electrical, Cardboard and Scrap Metal are all free, €5 for a black bag, becareful of the size however as they charge €27.50 for a jumbo bag. Better just use the recycling for free and let the non-recyclable go out in your bins.

That's a great story, well done to him and his team, I'll be following them myself from now on!

Was driving through Killarney earlier and noticed a a few (maybe four or five) people congregating at the credit union with sleeping bags etc. Homeliness is not something that seemed very prevalent to me in the town before. Quite a few cans being consumed and loud-ish conversations and looked like it could have been quite off putting to people walking past.

Sad to see so close to home.

Sad indeed. No town or city is free from homelessness these days unfortunately.

Not sure why it would be off putting, lads like that tend to keep to themselves. My mother has become friendly with a lad sleeping under the arch next to Tesco in the town centre where the small pizza place is. She buys him food and a coffee when she meets him and hes always grateful.

Well they were a small bit boisterous with the drink. Nothing major. Just if you were walking past on your own on an other wise deserted street it could be a bit off putting. But absolutely they generally keep to themselves you are right.

BTW, that's where it was. Call it the credit union even though it's moved:rolleyes:

Ah, fair enough yeah. Sure look, hopefully I never find myself in the position but I think a few cans would be the least I'd be using to help me get some sleep.

I've only met the one chap there myself. Bought him a slice and a cuppa from the pizza place. Seemed delighted with the company but didn't say a whole pile.

How many lads are there now?

Definitely 3 i think. Possibly 4 or 5. There were a couple in the bags already so couldn't really make them out. Yeah for sure a few cans certainly wouldn't be denying myself a few cans in that situation if that way persuaded
