I know. I was thinking about this poor little soul on the way to work.. I saw his beautiful face in the paper and nearly started crying.

It's just so so evil and sick. Jamie Bolger's death really affected me and this is along the same lines. Just incomprehensible.

I know this sounds bad - but im glad the child is at least out of his misery now. The poor pet.

There are people out there who cant have children and who would do anything to have a beautiful child like P. And look what they did. Its just horrendous.

That story is horrific, I cant even bring myself to read the details of it I had to turn off the news last night when i was watching ,how anyone could do things like that to a tiny helpless baby I cant even begin to fathom, utterly utterly disguting. There is no sentence in this case that would leave me with a sense that justice has been done, not the death penalty not even torturing the three for the rest fo their lives would make me feel any justice can be served here.

Nothing can be done to help him now but a donation to ISPCC or childline would help the many children living with abuse in Ireland.

Indeed, showing their level of competence is consistent if nothing else. So far none of them have been disciplined with regards to the case. Presumably if they're caught making stupid phonecalls, it'll be just the excuse needed to have a lynch mob out for them.

**** it dude, it's impossible to tell why people react like they do in thread sometimes. Could have been a bad weekend, could have been a story that hit close to home, could have been anything.

Been trying to forget this (and the other high profile case where the baby's back was broken) since I heard of them. I think it's the closest I've ever come to re-thinking my views on the death penalty (I still don't believe in it).

The punishment should never be decided by the level of outrage of the majority, but at the same time I can understand where Degsy is coming from, it is a sickening crime and the 'parents' and I use that term loosely, should be handed a very severe sentence. I'd also be of the opinion that a quick painless death is too good for them. I'd have a hard time attacking another adult. I would avoid hitting a woman. But a baby? A person thats about two foot tall and cant even walk on its own? 100% completely defenceless.

Lordofcheese, if someone 'sliced off your fingertips with a knife and wrenched off your nails with pliers', you wouldn't mind that person getting a slap on the wrist as a punishment, no?


If i were the one deciding the punishment, I'd make sure these "people" would pray for death to come as quickly as possible.

Precisely. While outrage is understandable, it can't run a criminal justice system. Nor can irreversible sentences, such as the death penalty or maimngs, be handed out in a world subject to fallibility, inequality and error. This shouldn't be taken as sympathy with the perpatrators.

What I find even more shocking is that social services knew about it and did nothing. The parents are obviously seriously mentally ill, but the services are not and failed spectacularly in their duties. Same goes for that doctor.
