Been trying to forget this (and the other high profile case where the baby's back was broken) since I heard of them. I think it's the closest I've ever come to re-thinking my views on the death penalty (I still don't believe in it).

I agree with lordofcheese. The punishment should never be decided by the level of outrage of the majority, but at the same time I can understand where Degsy is coming from, it is a sickening crime and the 'parents' and I use that term loosely, should be handed a very severe sentence. If we had the angry majority handing out punishments, who's to decided what is a crime deserving of painful torture, or killing ?

I'd also be of the opinion that a quick painless death is too good for them. I'd have a hard time attacking another adult. I would avoid hitting a woman. But a baby? A person thats about two foot tall and cant even walk on its own? 100% completely defenceless.

Lordofcheese, if someone 'sliced off your fingertips with a knife and wrenched off your nails with pliers', you wouldn't mind that person getting a slap on the wrist as a punishment, no?

If i were the one deciding the punishment, I'd make sure these "people" would pray for death to come as quickly as possible.

Precisely. While outrage is understandable, it can't run a criminal justice system. Nor can irreversible sentences, such as the death penalty or maimngs, be handed out in a world subject to fallibility, inequality and error. This shouldn't be taken as sympathy with the perpatrators.

What I find even more shocking is that social services knew about it and did nothing. The parents are obviously seriously mentally ill, but the services are not and failed spectacularly in their duties. Same goes for that doctor.

and the whole sending them to jail for years on end will achieve something also...and then they get out on good behaviour a couple of years later.

Justice is a futile point when in reference to this kid. He will never get 'justice'. If people are of the opinion that to inflict a similar sort of torture on the parents, then who are you to decide that it is 'pathetic'?
Of course it won't be a deterrent, that would be an assumption that these individuals have any kind of thought process that worries about the consequences. But similarly would any kind of jail term followed by an early release be any more 'justice' then being tortured to death? Who is to say?

The people in social services should be put in jail. They should make a big deal out of this and punish anyone connected with. The parents should be just shot. There's no hope of rehabilitation or forgiveness from the people so just get them out of this world. sick ****s.

Yes, people in Social Services should be held to account but from what I've heard, it's as much the bureaucracy in the system as the people responsible for the kid's care that led to this happening.
