Go to www.cao.ie and log in. Then click on "My Application" and you'll see your HPAT results at the bottom, in the "qualifications" section.

anyway, well done to everyone on fantastic results!! i thought i did ok but now im starting to think i havnt a hope!!....153 and 55%....fairly middle of the road......i wud consider myself a 'talentless slogger' when it comes to anything academic...i suppose the kind of person the hpat is trying to weed out:D...but i really really really want to study medicine...( like everyone else here:D.....does anyone think that i have a chance??? i think the LC went really well....i think i can get 580 if all goes well!!!

i have almost resigned to defeat but i just coudnt face repeating all those hours of study...iv deprived my skin of vitD for long enough!!!...

again, well done on some great scores, by the sound of things many of you will make great doctors!!! good luck in august!!:)

    Cantona,
If you get 580 points you will have 550+6=556 leaving cert points
    add hpat 153
    709 total

unsure if 211 quoted hpat is true -seems maximum is around 205 and certainly you have to be in top 1% to be above 200. If 3500 did exam as quoted that is only 35 people.

So 200 person may only get 510 in leaving cert-who knows yet and combined score would be 710-very close to you!!

The fact is that the spread from the 50th percentile or average to the top percentile 99th is only from 150-200 or 50 marks means that the Leaving Cert marks are going to be VERY important so I would not give up yet at all!!!

I see from the CAO site that 3356 is the correct figure for CAO 1st preferences for Medicine to date. That figure represented a big jump on previous years. I presume that 405 is the correct number of Medical places so it is difficult to fault your logic. That would mean that folks on the 88 percentile upwards would be in the most secure position. Someone here posted a message suggesting that quite a few of the High percentile people will not do Medicine after all. I wonder? They hardly put down medicine for the crack. Also their mothers will pile the pressure on!!! At 173 (84th percentile) I am now depressed. I can only hope that I hit 550 plus on the LC and that a lot of the HPAT high scorers didn't bother their arses with any work for the LC. My geuss is that the female HPat High Scorers will hit the high notes on the Leaving Cert...but there has to be a cohort of ADHD type male geniuses out there who never opened a book for the Leaving and who were forced by Mama to put Medicine down first. Maybe Im still in with a chance.
PS I am convinced that a lot of the Emotional Questions were open to more than one correct answer. The fact that everything is hush hush is very off putting. All human systems fail, and I'll bet there's a few hidden failures in the unappealable HPAT.

How many points do you need for it in Trinity and can it lead to a career in medicine?

Again to you and all applicants you dont know your leaving cert results yet so you can't be depressed. As already pointed out the SPREAD of marks average to top 30 is only 50 so Leaving Cert marks will be very important. Yes many of those in the top of hpat will be in the top of leaving cert but wouldnt you have expected that???
Before the results today people were predicting marks of 250 and upwards in hpat -never going to be like that - look at the marks from Australia.
So wait and see. Must be a fairer system than getting 570 and being knocked out on random selection!!!!!

Human Health and Disease is new this year so it hasn't got a points total yet.

Basically it's the science side of medicine but you won't be a doctor at the end of it, it's essentially a specialised science degree in biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience and anatomy.

You must have bio and one of ag science, chem or physics for it though

Reckon around 151 if 150 was 49th-anyone confirm??

Well done everyone on their results! I had an agonizing wait at work till 2 until i could come home and get them, just got them now, got 193 and a 96% percentile.

    Score 1 Score 2 Score 3 Overall
    069 061 064 193

Those add up to 194 but that seems to have happened to a few people so...

  • Registered Users Posts: 217 ✭✭smndly

I got 99th percentile! Over the moon!! total is 203. I repeated this year having got 545 last year but it looks like that may have been a total waste of time seeing as ill probably get in with last years points!! Im buzzin!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 236 ✭✭drrkpd

It seems blindingly obvious that people are very happy to post results that are superb but very few brave souls have posted marks below the 49th percentile-even though of course there is an equal number of them.
To all of those -bad luck but dont forget-
    1. You can repeat it next year-indeed as often as you like!!

    2. Perhaps you mucked up the timing of the exam- online practice with people like **** may help.

    3. Dont forget you can now do medicine as a graduate in Ireland and the UK takes both graduate and mature students.

So to all of you it is not the end of the world and you can still do medicine if YOU want to by a number of different routes.

IMO to get a place in medicine you will have to achieve 560+ points in the leaving cert. AND ace the HPAT.

Posts like this are why I'm depressed today.
I did not Ace the HPAT.
I did not get over 560 in my LC.

I'm going to be a Pharmer, I am.

    Nobody knows.

You'll find out on August 17th.

I've got 723 if I combine with my points from last year, and I've started to abandon hope.
My optimism only ever lasts for so long... :/

  • Registered Users Posts: 236 ✭✭drrkpd

    Simple answer is No.
Maximum score is 560 Leaving Certificate Points.
Hpat 99th percentile means the top 1% (approximately 30 people) got over 200 on hpat test So 760 points and above(560+200) are a certainty for the first of a maximum 30 places out of 405 undergraduate medical places-assuming top 2% who did hpat also score 600 points.
As for scores for next 375 places- well nobody really knows until the first round offers though I am sure lots of people will have a go at predicting it.

198 and 98th percentile. Quite happy. Hopefully it will make up for the slight drop I think I made in the LEaving (was going for 550, expecting about 530 only now). We'll see in August.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18 Inspired171

Wow fair fecks to ya, I wouldn't worry about that slight drop, with a hpat score like that you're bound to get in!:D
Just out of interest, were you expecting to score so high? Not being nosy,
just curious! oh and envious!!:p xx

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 Purple Funk

Well I really didn't know what to expect in terms of score, but I was hoping to do well in it as I've done similarly well in aptitude tests that I've taken in the past. Hopefully I'll do well enough in August.

Big cheers for the congrats, thanks and best of luck to you in August. :P

Definitely thought I did better toward the end of the paper. Ah well, shows what I know.

Oh dear I didn't do too well at all =/
Not really, knew I'd do well once the LC went ****, not a chance of getting in.

I might repeat the HPAT next year and do one of those grind courses we all thought would make no difference =/
    I didn't do a grind course.

If I had gotten my HPAT results months ago, I would have been motivated enough to rape the Leaving Cert.

    Fudgemonkeys.

We sound pretty similar my friend!

I didn't like the idea of the HPAT from the start and the results today confirm what I was expecting. When it comes down to it medicine was always a lottery between a few hundred students, one slip in maths or a few points missing in History could make all the difference.
All the HPAT does is create a load of new entrants into the lottery. While that suits lazy people like me, I still don't think it's fair.
And of course the fact that it's just another little money-making exercise is quite annoying too.

Amacachi, how do you see your results for each individual section? I only get my overall score.

^ I think you sign into the CAO website, go to "My Application" and that the details are listed under qualifications :)

Hmmm... anyone else here disappointed with their result, having always done really well in other aptitude tests in the past?
Cos i wasn't happy with my hpat, but my IQ and dats scores are very high!

    Irksome. I must say.

Yeah i am so disappointed. I got 147, which is 44 percentile. I hope the lc results will go well, and had my heart set on Trinity. I have no chance now..:(

1st the stress caused by english paper 2 this year.... and then this whole 'unknown' universe of apprehension we have been thrust into..... This is not a good year to be a college applicant :S
