Does anyone know what the story is with library fines for 3 day loan books?

There was so stapler on the table outside the printroom in the library where there usually is so I asked the woman working if there was one around... She said "Sorry I'm just too busy to open the drawer and check.".... Grr :(

Almost finished for the year, hard to believe, only felt like yesterday when i was attending orientation with a mix of nervousness and excitement. Just said i'd jot a few points about the year.

    The good( mostly good moments)
Happiest i've been for a few years, especially after secondary school
    The people are very amicable
Got a lot more confidence now, am currently writing an essay for history studies journal
There is always something to do
I've attended various functions by faculty and i've gotten to know lecturers
Lecturers are generally friendly and helpful ( N Robinson and L Ashworth)
Societies (History society and am more determined to get involved in more of them next semester)
Charity or rag week. Not just for the drink but for the activities and buzz around campus.
Venus Labs, convenient for finding a computer
Have a few more, will list them later.

    The Bad ( Not many)
Academic Literacies, greatest waste of time.
    PO4022, all old greek stuff.
    Monday Morning Tutorials.
    Exams (obviously)

Dear girls in postgrad room. STFU!!!!

Another thing i really hate about UL is the drink problem here. There's a lot of alcoholics around the place. It gets worse aswell with it being this time of the year. People out celebrating and that. But thats understandable, blowing off a bit of steam after a long stressful semester. But theres also the people who are genuine alcoholics, who live for the sauce. Day in and day out all they can think about is where their next drink is coming from and the university needs to address this.

on a side note, the birds in the post grad room were unreal the other day. i dont care how much they talk they can distract me all they want!!

To say that there is a number of alcoholics around the place is a very rash statement which I think you should reconsider posting. As you have said this I can safely say you have never been to another 3rd level institution. Same story everywhere in college in Ireland, it's the culture we live with, it's not right and hopefully can be improved in the future but to say there are a number of alcoholics around is saying that a large number of college students throughout Ireland are alcoholics.

Personally, I prefer the clubs/socs to the drinking. I don't care if people go out every night, that is their business, but it must get extremely boring to frequently and not to mention expensive.

question..you have a problem with the drink culture in UL..and call yourself alcomoholic:rolleyes::rolleyes:....cant.....contain......irony:rolleyes:

also thats very insulting to alot of people

some people drink and go out 4/5 times a week..thats their business..you might dislike them but they might dislike people who mouth off on message boards about people who go out 4/5 times a week

    and as for this
i dont feel the constant hunger for alcohol that has infested some people around here...

    fair play to ya

but do you honestly believe this is unique to UL..hate to break to you buddy.... this is Ireland..despite the fact i despise it and think its over-exaggerated..we don't have the reputation in other countries for alcoholism for nothing

Again, i have nothing against the drinking, but i see the effects of it on people who indulge in it a bit too much. Prefer to have a few drinks at balls, class parties. Good craic. Sad that everything is over tomorrow for four months (Hope i don't have to repeat) Might look into that politics summer school.

I've deleted about a page of one idiotic exchange, which led to another idiotic exchange.

If you kids can't be less stupidly bitchy, then consider posting somewhere else. The fact that the thread is titled "official bitch about daily life in UL" isn't a licence for being bitchy in that 90210 sense. Take your personal issues with people elsewhere as well. I can of course arrange this to be mandatory but I'd rather not. I don't have a problem doing it if I feel I have to though. Don't be thinking that you've got a right to post here on the UL board merely because of an involvement with UL as a current, past or future student. This is not the silliness playground.

Anyone law students out there who have come across two people who are clearly not UL students, shouting in the law section this week ('oh they must be doing their exams!'), abusing other students ('why are you staring at me?') and literally being aggressive and disruptive to actual UL students! About time they are asking for ID at the entrance:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,038 ✭✭✭Seloth

The tables in the PEss building today were ridiculously high.Like I'm a tlal person but I could barley get my arms over them!

I saw a girl who's shoulders were up to the edge..It was kinda hilarious!

They asked my for ID every time I went in today. That must be why.

They need a scanner thingymibob like they have in the arena. Then maybe they could block out disrputive gob****es like that

Came in to return books and go for a swim so decided to to use the computers in library, there is a leaving cert student logged on to a computer across from me, at least he's being quiet but was very annoyed with them during exam weeks, talking all the time.

Ok wtf is wrong with Plassey cabs.

The operator guy started cursing at me,The taxi I was in didnt have enough seatbelts!,They over charge...and are gimps :L.

At the start of last semester The only other time I ever got them I had to cancel a taxi...get a call 15 mins later saying the taxi was outside.I tell him I cancelled it 15 mins ago but the driver takes none of it yelling at me through the phone saying never to call them again.

Honestly why does the uni do business with them.

Was in the other day to return a few books. Got stopped for ID as i was going into the library, lucky i had it on me, but what is the point of asking people for ID, especially when most people are gone away? Probably should have done it two weeks ago.

Mary I is part of UL, and NUIG and UL have some sort of arrangement which involves the sharing of facilities.

And UL doesn't want any lowly LIT "students" lurking around its campus of course. :D

Mary I is part of UL

FYI UL students can also use the mary i library. You need to fill out a form and be given a library swipe card to get in

I'm not going to lie, I'm a Leaving Cert student and have been using the library for the last 6 months except for when it got busy during you're exams. I have been using my friends ID who is on Co-Op so it's worked out well for me. I promise I've always been quiet and not disruptive but I have seen some people in my year that have been and I can understand that it is quite annoying. I will be in UL myself next year so it's nice to hear that next years Leaving Certs wont be in there ;)
