Will you be buying it on release?

Just look at the main character... so good! :pac:

Oh and here is the link to the trailer for those of you who haven't seen it. *sigh*

I don't understand what would make one particularly excited about it. Looks like standard button bashing stuff to me...

If you play it like a button basher well that's your choice to. It looks fun and if it's anything like DMC, it's promising.

Its basically going to be DMC except dante is replaced with your standard jrpg leggy heroin with a ridonckulous walk.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,653 ✭✭✭steviec

Yea not really seeing the appeal. I know who the developers are and all, but this is just trying too hard to be stylish and comes off a bit soulless to me. I've never really "got" these types of games anyway, just button mashing to me, but I'm ok with that when there's interesting characters, story, exploration or puzzles to go with it, not looking like this game will have any of the above based on what I've seen so far.

Gloria from DMC...guess what,my impulse buy DMC4 was due to her lol

the non-loli market is huge i'd say...without rabbit girl i couldnt even finish FF12 tbh...:pac:

Looks a bit like God Hand to me and with load of ex Capcom guys behind it including a lot of the Devil may cry 1 staff i'd say this one could be brilliant. A lot people are complaining that it looks cheesy and far too over the top. Those nobody else see that it is probably that way on purpose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,358 ✭✭✭seraphimvc

read some interview of the creator(damn i forget his name in english again, the so-called creator of the DMC1 as a next gen 3D action game:rolleyes: ),he said it is a huge disappointment of no improvement in action game since DMC1,so he is gonna try something innovation and new stuffs this time .

no matter how i am getting this anyway, the lulu/rabbit girl character + quality will worth my money!

while the real reason is i heard that she is using her hairs cover as her clothes(??),so more skills she is bashing out she will be more nak*d...god bless me...

ahem!her different weapons has their own story behind that can summon [insert something cool and powerful] to fight with you, combining different weapons and skills ,imagine the visual effects ,defo sounds like a great game!over the top?too cheesy?bring it on!

Looks terrible. Music is terrible. Cutscenes sound like a porno without the sex. I have managed to summon up hatred for all of the characters that were introduced there. They managed to make gunporn/killing hundreds of dudes singlehanded boring.

Oh, and the gameplay sections look meh.....

I actually think the cheesiness looks promising. It is fun when action films and games dont take themselves seriously for a change, and I have high hopes for this considering the talent behind it. And the trailer isn't bad except for the music. The bit with the huge god/statue chasing her up the stairs looks fantastic.

    It's DMC.
    With guns.
    And magic.
    And lots of sex appeal.

I'm sorry, what's your problem again? :pac:

Have to agree. Devil May Cray was just as cheesey and over the top as this and it was still brilliant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

this game is coming on the 8th of january. Edge reviewed it and gave it
    10/10
. Famitsu in japan reviewed it and it got
    40/40
and eurogamer have reviewed it and given it
    9/10
. Devil may cry it may be under the hood but it does look amazing. There is some significant graphical differences in favour of the 360 too from what I am reading.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,395 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

There's a comparison up on Eurogamer and the PS3 version looks awful compared to the 360 one. It's lots a hell of a lot worse and runs at about half the framerate.

  • Moderators Posts: 5,580 ✭✭✭Azza

Guess I have an excuse to buy an Xbox 360 so. Not normally my cup of tea but the reviews are so good I'm going give it a try.

I loved DMC. I suspect I will love this.

    Terrible sega port!

    not buying as no 360

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭bugs

In comparison the ps3 port lacks a lot, but the game itself plays perfectly alright, its far from a slideshow. I've had it since release in japan and the only issue i have is with the loading, as you currently can't install it to the harddisk (Sega are contemplating a patch).

The game itself shares a lot with both DMC and ninja gaiden, but the combo system flows a lot better than either.
If you button mash, the standard difficulty will eat you alive. Theres an easy automatic mode, which will essentially complete the game for you in about 5 hours.

Well worth a purchase if you like these types of games, on whatever console you have access to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

The 360 is my console of prefferance just because the PS3's joypad is so awful, but still, it's a shame to see such a sloppy port.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/bayonetta-import-review
The result is a game that exemplifies so much of what commentators claim has died in the Japanese game industry. A blast of creative brilliance, both technically accomplished, strategically deep and infused with rare imagination, Bayonetta represents the pinnacle of its chosen niche.

    9/10

First I've heard of this but from the review I'm very interested now.

Q1 release next year I believe

Plus all those reviews? Day One purchase for me anyway. I loved the sheer cheesiness of DMC with the Nero Awakening video in DMC4 being one of my fave cutscenes in any game ever.

As bugs said though, if you button bash in these games on Normal or above difficulties you'll get murdered. Style isn't just something the developers aim for, it's also something expected from you with your combat. :)

It's from the team that made Okami. I'm amazed that people thought this game wouldn't be good with the pedigree behind it.

Bayonetta looks like it will be crazy, and it has been getting excellent reviews so far. Will probably get this for the 360, when it comes out.

Currently downloading the demo. 86% complete. Will report back!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭bugs

The assumption is that any patch will apply to all region versions of the game as the japanese version was clearly a worldwide release (albeit shelved for europe/us due to the cod-mw2 release).

The loading is annoying when you just want to replay the stages, if they solve that (by simply letting me install it to the harddisk) i'll be happy enough.

Has been released on xbox live in case anybody was wondering...
    On the download too!

Xbox Live demo is meant to have a different stage to the PS3 one, so must give that a download!

Getting more and more excited about this - Edge were singing its praises this month,
including a relatively rare perfect score!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

had a quick go of the demo. its DMC with a bird really which is fine by me. some cool lookin combos. I could just play this making her walk slow all day long. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Played the demo, didn't think it was anything special.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭bugs

The xbox version has the clocktower prelude stage. Its not in the ps3 demo as it didn't run so well (it runs 'ok' in the full game).

I wouldn't say the demo is a great representation of the game, all you get is a piece of the vigrid stage and it doesn't give you much instruction on what you've got or what you can do.

Better news is the PS3 US (Assume EU/JP) versions of the game will be patched on release. Not by sega but by a sony team. Just have to wait and see what level of improvement they can make.

So I just tried the demo...

    WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED. :eek::eek:

Crazy awesome japanesey insane nonsense, loved it. Exhilarating and delirious, and I'm a complete stranger to the genre

The demo has ruined DMC for me. Its too good for its own good.

Probably will be my GOTY 2010

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭SK1979

Been playing this the last few days as well and gotta say it seems stupidly entertaining. Reading the reviews, it seems that the combat system has so much depth to it.

Cant wait for this. What a weird release date though? Jan 8th?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,200 ✭✭✭Mindkiller

    Bump

So who's buying GOTY 2010 tomorrow?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,395 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I've no bloody money for it :( I saw a video of the Space Harrier reference that is in it and want it even more!

I walked down to Bray in the ridiculous conditions in the very slight hope that someone would be selling this this evening (hell, breaking street date for this is hardly like the MW2 launch). Gamestop had it out on the shelves for 45 (50 in Smyths and Xtravision, not on sale)! Walked up to the counter with it feverishly, and was told they weren't selling it till the morning.

    ****.

However, based on the demo and the inherent brilliance of a Platinum game in which you play a witch who uses her hair suit as a weapon, I also declare this as GOTY. Having not played it yet. That is how much confidence I have in this game being the best thing ever.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,145 ✭✭✭Lands Leaving

Took me a while to get into the demo... but when I figured out how not to be eaten/killed/dropped to my death by the giant... statue/zeus thing I enjoyed it a lot. Was playing the Ps3 demo and didn't see any issues, even with loading. Probablybecause the demo installs to the HD though.

I like the random boot that pops out of nowhere to... boot enemies. Going by the demo I'd say it's just a fun DMC type game, but I guess there must be a lot more to it judging by the fawning press. Think I'll wait for a price drop though. And see if the PS3 version gets a patch, much prefer the PS3 pad for this sort of thing.

Gonna pick this up tomorrow after giving the demo a proper go. Should keep me entertained! :D

I normally dislike the PS3 pad, but for games like this it just feels right somehow. (I guess I'm just used to it from Devil May Cry/GoW...)
Despite that, I'll be avoiding the PS3 version like the plague!

Couldn't resist preordering the special edition from play - should hopefully be with me today:)

I played the ps3 demo last week and I don't know if I'm missing something but I honestly don't know how this game is getting so much hype\good reviews.

It just played like a mindless button basher with slow down mechanic that allows you to do combos with more button bashing. And with all the sexploitation (ironic or not) it just plays to the stereotype of gamers as all 14 year old boys.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,049 ✭✭✭superfly

i'm with wayne on this, i downloaded to see what the hype was and thought it was just another loopy Japanese kill-em-all pad destroyer game
don't get the attraction at all

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

Played the demo this week and didn't have a clue what was going on.

    GOTY.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭bugs

Its not likely to please everyone. The story is nonsense by design and the learning curve is fairly high.
It really requires the player to learn the game mechanics, button mashing through it won't lead to a pleasant experience. Added to that the difficulty spikes after a few stages of normal, so you'd really have to at least have a grasp of whats going on or it'd get frustrating, fast.

The demo's ok, but similar to the full game, you start off with a dizzying number of combo's, all of which can be cancelled, split with offsets or staggered. It doesn't really let you know this and it could easily look like complete chaos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,792 ✭✭✭Mark Hamill

So does anyone know yet how the european PS3 version compares to the xbox version? Did they fix the issues that where in the japanese version, or is it still a better buy on the xbox?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭bugs

The Euro PS3 version of bayonetta is the same as the japanese version (the japanese version was intended to be a worldwide release version).

Officially neither sony or sega ever said they were definitely working on a patch, a few news sites just made it seem that way.

As of now, the xbox version is a cleaner, smoother version of the game. It still suffers from slowdown and screen tearing but not nearly as bad as the ps3 version. Both are quite playable, but given the option, get the 360. At best a patch for the ps3 version will probably allow the game to be installed to fix the loading.
