I know I've heard that too, I'm so jealous of a girl I know, her boyfriend and her are off to NY soon. I've always wanted to go, mostly because I do want to see a musical. When I heard the Little Mermaid was on I was like

    *Sigh* :(

I'll just keep dreaming about it until I eventually get there :( My bf apparently was going to take me there last St Stephens Day but couldn't find accom, he said that once so I don't even know if he was being serious or not. :(

My parents saw Wicked and said it was brilliant!

    Gah, too many to pick!

    On stage:
    Miss Saigon
    Phantom of the Opera
    Jesus Christ Superstar
    Chicago

I used to be really into Les Mis & Rent, but not so much any more.

    On film:
    Singin' in the Rain
    SB for SB
    Calamity Jane
    Annie Get Your Gun

I must be the only person in the world who HATES Moulin Rouge. Also refuse point blank to see Mamma Mia as I loathe Abba's music so much.

Was in NY on my honeymoon in May and my husband's uncle, who works in the Irish Consulate there, organised tickets for Wicked as well as a private backstage tour beforehand. It was absolutely 100% every bit as amazing as people say it is.

Performance-wise, I think my personal fave so far has been Thoroughly Modern Millie. I did it last year with Greenhills Variety Group and just loved everything about it.

I cant believe I forgot Calamity Jane! Im so ashamed of myself!!

''I just blew in from the windy city, the windy city is mighty pretty but they aint got what we got!''

p.s. I have to say I didnt like moulin rouge the first time but when I watched it again I fell in love with it! I say giv it another go tbh!

I'm not a huge fan of Moulin Rouge as I really don't like Nicole Kidman's singing voice and I always hate when the sacrifice the vocals for the big names. Pisses me off no end!

I also hated Abba's music until I saw Mamma Mia tbh, it was just such fun and Pierce Brosnan in spandex is hilarious.

I tried that a few months ago and ended up switching it off about an hour into it. It just does nothing for me, and Nicole Kidman's awful nasally voice was actually starting to hurt my head.

Question actually! What did you guys think of the film version of Phantom of the Opera? I watched it for about 10minutes and the had to turn it off because the lip syncing was so bad!

I actually thought they did a pretty good job. It was a pretty faithful adaptation of the stage show, although I do wonder what they were thinking casting Jennifer Ellison as Meg.

I'm going to have to watch it again now and keep an eye out for the lip syncing! Obviously the vocals weren't recorded live on set, but everyone did do their own singing, bar Minnie Driver.

Mamma Mia was really only so good because it had Colin Firth in it. *drools*

(off topic: he has a new film coming out with Bette Midler in it... yay!)

Moulin Rouge is good. But I agree, Nicole Kidman is not good. Not good at all I say!

Everyone should go to see Wicked. Its amazing! One of the best shows Ive ever seen. :D

I'm just a complete perfectionist for the likes of lipsyncing. I'm a music nazi really. And it wasn't even so much the syncing itself, just the fact that she's be singing ridiculously high with her mouth barely open. Totally unrealistic imo.

    I love Colin Firth.

Also, I'm thinking Wicked should just have it's own thread at this stage. Everyone on here has either seen it or really wants to see it as far as I can tell. Also there;s a user on here called Elphaba who's sig is "Defy Gravity" so I think I'll go hunt her down...

My ma was into them so I heard some growing up. Favorites Evita and Chess, both with original cast.

It has to be Avenue Q. I've never laughed so much. Funny because it's true. "What do you do with a BA in English?" should be played to all arts students.

i actually loved it.watched it for 13 nights in a row when i got it.the one thing i ofund kind of annoying is that they didnt really show christines love for bout raoul and the phantom.it was obvious she would go for roaul in it as if the phantom was just some anoyance to her.if it was me id have gone for the phantom gerard butler in that mask yum:p
Guys and Dolls! I saw it in the west end with PATRICK SWAYZE as Nathan Detroit. It was so so good!

That or little shop of horrors! :D

incredibly jealous.i loved him since i was a little kid.was kind of dissapointed when i was around 8 and realised he wasnt the same age her was in dirty dancing....same thing with john trvolta and grease.:o

hated it, felt they didnt put any creativity into the film. Same problem as The Producers, both films had directors who thought they were still directing for stage.

Ooh, saw Ewan McGregor in Guys and Dolls in London. Brilliant and sooo sexy (the cuba scene!). Heard the bloke from Eastenders was as charismatic as a plank when he took over the role afterwards.

If you ever have the chance go to see it. The soundtrack is hilarious but you're missing the full visual impact of puppet sex....
There are also lots of sesame street style animations that pop up on screens during the show... one, just before a scene involving Lucy the Slut has a lady in a tower and a line of knights trying to rescue her and each of them get killed except the last.... five knights, four knights, three knights, two knights... one knight stand.

    It's funnier when you're there.

The most amazing musical I have ever seen was PARADE, by Jason Robert Brown.

I also like FLOYD COLLINS, by Adam Guettel. It's not very well known, but the score and the script are outstanding.

SPRING AWAKENING is a very unique show that I suspect will be of great historical importance when we look back on it. I, for one, thought that it was a very well conceived!

Oh my God!! I LOVE Spring Awakening!! nobody has ever heard of it! yayyy!!

As to my favourite musical . . i really don't know . . it changes with my mood!! i'm really into Hiarspray at the moment( although admittedly that might have something to do with Zac Efron . . .)

Stephen Sondheim is a genius. I really love his Follies and Company.
