Ok I'm just wondering should I throw my self straight into TP or take it handy and go for a general science degree! I'm just concerned about what the jobs could be for a TP graduate. What would my options be for a masters? TCD by the way is where im interested in

You won't be 'taking it handy' doing a general science degree in trinity unless you want to fail! What's TP?

Theoretical physics my friend the weird and wonderful world of quantum mechanics, black holes and energy borrowed from the future

AFAIK most TP graduates go on to work in banks as the maths you learn on finance and TP courses is fairly similar!

If you're not toally sure about it it's probably best to do a general science degree. I've a friend who didn't get TP but got his second choice which was science, now he's considering doing graduate-entry medicine, nothing to do with TP! If you do science you might cover some of the stuff you would in TP but you have a broader degree, you can also do a masters and specialise then.

    Basic topics covered in first year;
(Some are just introductions to said topic)

    Classical Mechanics
    Special Relativity
    Thermodynamics
    Electromagnetism
    Contiuum Mechanics
    Quantum Mechanics
    Electromagnetism
    Quantum Statistics
    Atomic Physics
    Calculus and Analysis
    Math Modeling
    Math Software
    Linear Algebra

We also have a module where you study modern questions and topics in physics, we have done nuclear energy, introduction to microelectronics, astrophysics.

I haven't thought too much about jobs but one of my lecturers spoke about how physicists are basically required in most situations. He wrote up two black boards worth of areas that physicists can work. All quite interesting so Ill see how it goes.

    Hi guys,
Is anyone palnning on studying journalism @ DCU next year?
And could any current students PM me please because ave a few question!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 784 ✭✭✭Peleus

Hey, Is there anyone else out there thinking of doing Engineering in Trinity? The points are 450. I'm just wondering if theres more/less of a demand for TCD Engineering this year cos i know of a few people who are doing it in my school.

I'm just wondering would the points rise or fall? Considering a B3 in HL maths is needed????? Do you think 485 would be good enough to secure a place in Engineering in TCD????
