Brilliant Green sandpiper. Did you get it at forgotten corner?

Spot on Traonach , Forgotten corner it was shortly after 7 last night , giving some great views.
I find some of the sandpipers can be very trusting at times if you remain still , have got to within a few feet of Green and Common before , and even the Buff-breasted can be very tame after arriving for the first week or so.

    All correct.
The curlew is probably a male judging by bill length. Could be confused with a whimbrel but no dark crown stripes and also you can see the tips of the toes protruding from tail feathers (whimbrel toes don't protrude from tail feathers during flight).

God bless your eyesight! There were about 8-10 of them together, sounded what I presumed Curlew to sound like!

Was in St. Annes park this morning and saw this little chap in the part of the pond closest to the coast road. I wanted to get a shot from a better angle but it swam away before I could get to a better position. No idea how it got in there, I assume it's a discarded pet.

Also saw a Grey Heron doing a bit of sun-bathing.

My daughter got to see an owl for first time.
This long-eared Owl landed on bird table 3 metres from the house earlier. I just happened to be passing by the camera when I saw it and although I was quite a distance from window, I put it on full zoom and took a snap before it flew on.

Hopefully it will consider doing same journey in future. We'll keep an eye out for it.

EDIT My daughter, who is 9, said only last week that she really wanted to see an owl (in her demanding...I want it now... voice:cool:) little did I know that while I was explaining the likelihood...that one would turn up to be seen during daylight, only 2nd one I've seen by daylight, as opposed to dusk or later.

from an emergency pond evacuation today - liner has sprung a leak, and we've had to lift as much from the pond as possible.
    is this a dragonfly larva?

It's a diving beetle larva, possibly Great Diving Beetle.

aha - that'd make sense, we pulled out more than a few diving beetles too. and small tadpoles; even though there's been no spawn in the pond in quite a while.
