Very happy to see this girl (or young boy) in my garden this evening. I saw it flying by a few times over the past few weeks but it never stopped. Luckily it perched in a tree just before dusk for long enough for me to grab my camera and get a shot (albeit through glass).

I hardly ever get good sights of sparrowhawks, even more of a male. While making breakfast I heard the alarm calls at the feeder and the back of this male dissapearing at the top of a tree across the road.

The advantage of having the binocs and camera at hand...I was lucky enough to be able to relocate the bird. He stayed there for a good while and even gave me time to set up the scope.

I ran downstairs as I was and managed to get a few shots, before the male sparrowhauk launched another (unsuccesful) attack against the feeders.

Is it a Salmon or a Sea Trout?

My understanding from more informed local people was salmon.

    Any anglers care to comment?
Just done a Google and they look like sea trout. Will update heading.

    Thanks Srameeen

    Swallow Awash !

I took this sequence of shots towards the end of September and shows a swallow plunging into water and taking off again. Because of a large crop factor with a fast shutter speed, high noise and shallow depth of field I was reluctant to show them. However on reflection I think the shots are different and might be of interest to viewers and on that basis have posted them.

Is that the head of an otter? Or a rock?

@New Home Jeez, fifty posts before i can embed pictures? That`ll keep me busy till easter 2019. Thanks a lot for your work. :)

Befor the sunny days are gone just a few pictures to remember this years summer. The first is a quite big southern hawker . It took me two full days of watching and trying to get exactly two acceptable pictures. When they are hunting at little ponds they tend to hover at the same spots every few minutes. The only chance to get them in flight.

Number two is probably a great green bush cricket. I´m not quite sure as there are black dots and the colours of the eye are not exactly the norm. As soon as they feel a shadow they are gone. And of course you have to move very sloooowly. This one was quite relaxed and i got enough time for a few shots.

The third is just a little hoverfly in my garden. It was hopeless to get them in flight. So i just settled for a nice still shot. :P

    Love this thread. Fantastic pictures...:)

.....fifty posts before i can embed pictures? That`ll keep me busy till Easter 2019.....

Use a single 'picture' in each post, three 'pictures', three posts, and you won't be long getting there.....
