Thanks for that clear explanation - I knew I was rubbish at photography, but I really couldn't figure out why I couldn't take even one decent wildlife photo, even accidentally. Mystery solved! :)

To add to it... This doesn't necessarily mean a huge price tag... There are many bridge camera out there that, although they are not match to a dslr with long lens, they will give you significant better results than a mobile phone.

Decent bridges can be purchased from EUR 250/300 new, or less than that second hand. And they are fun to use (IMO).

no camera phone will match a dedicated camera but the best camera phone was the Lumia 1020 41mp. It came out in July 2013. I still use my one everyday. here is a sample video which I took.

Anyone know what this little guy is? I thought wren but he has green on his chest. Found him inside a airbox when I was servicing a car today. Poor little guy.

I think it is a Willow Warbler. If you heard it sing you'd know straight away but the fact that the legs are not dark swings it as a Willow Warbler in my eyes

I've had a chance to observe a pair of Dippers collect material for a nest.
    They are amazing.
Their work rate and teamwork is just great to see.

At one stage today, I saw one of them collect some dry leaves from the riverbank and then 'soak' them in shallow water for a while on the river's edge before speeding away to wherever the nest will be

    Also took this pic today

Sorry- I know I should be putting some of these in the same post, but somehow in my mind I have them separately categorised

For instance, I took this one today to enter the 'Vivid Colours' challenge over on the Photo forum.. but you may like it here also?

My wild bird cover crop at weekend. It's kale. Hardly any wildflowers up yet in coastal NW Mayo, so every pollinator is attracted to crop. The crop is full of noise from the bees. Hopefully will produce a good crop of seeds to provide winter feeding for endangered Twite.
