I know a guy who saves money by warming his barrel with 5 rounds of Eley Cheap (forget the proper name!) before using his Match EPS.

Won't fire 5 rounds of the good stuff into the bank!!

No harm intended, and there are certainly no such things as seconds in any case.

Aren't Match EPS "seconds" off the Tenex line? Or is that just some of them? I've heard conflicting stories on that.

The eejit. Five rounds is too much anyway, one or two would be enough unless he'd just scrubbed the barrel before the last shot (and that's a bad idea just before a match as well). So he fouls his barrel with the cheap stuff, then fires other stuff through it, which changes the fouling pattern over time and gives inconsistent results.

Match EPS is what, 15 cents per round? Cheap eley is about 10 cents. So for 25 cents saved, he risks losing a few points and throwing the match. After spending what, 15 euro or so on entry fees. And that's not counting the cost of the petrol to get to the match, the cost of the time to train for and shoot the match, the cost of the kit he's shooting with, his licence, his insurance, his membership fee....

Seriously, sometimes I think Irish shooters have a problem with doing a cost-benefit analysis :D

The story used to be that everything came off one production line and went through a kind of sieve of QA testing. If it made the grade, it went into Tenex boxes, if it failed there, it tried out for Match boxes, if it failed there, it tried out for Club and so on down. Similar stories circulated about Lapua and every other manufacturer of ammunition.
These days I think they actually have different production lines.

The way I heard it is that when the tooling is new, everything off the line is Tenex until a certain number of rounds is produced and then it's downgraded to Match and on until you get to the bottom of the pile when the tooling is replaced and it starts all over again.

I've heard the same about Lapua.

Misfires with .22 ammo are quite common because of the way the primer is put in the case. I can't remember if the case is rotated or the pouring head, but sometimes it doesn't complete full circle leaving a small part of the rim un-primed. This is why rotating the round in the chamber will nearly always fire off the round. Very occasionally the case goes through completely un-primed and hence it won't fire at all.

I forgot to add my congratulations to Conor for an extremely good result. Although conditions weren't windy, the constant light changes were very testing and many competitors reported fliers as a result.

Keep up the good work Conor. As others have said, it might be worth your while moving up to Tenex for the Nationals. If you need some for the day, I have some that you'd be welcome to if you wanted. At a price of course :D

If anyone gets a crossfire on Sunday, stick your hand up. It's far easier to deal with when it's just been fired rather than later.

Although we still can pick them up either way.

At the Munich shoot, two shots hit my target 0.7 seconds apart

I didn't spot it until about 4 shots later, but I *do* know who did it. :D

I was told the opposite - the RO gave out to me for putting my hand up and saying it. Was told to wait until the detail is over.

Technically speaking it's easier to sort at the time. If you know how :D
