The be Quiet! only has 660W on the 12V rail and considering your hopefully new 570's can pull 220W on full load (according to nVidias spec) and your CPU will pull around 150W (according to Extreme PSU Calculator) with a bit of an overclock it might be close.

You can get the Corsair HX750 which is a top class PSU on eurieka for just under €120
    http://www.eurieka.ie/corsair-hx750.html

    Unfortunatley thats exc vat.

Actually I was looking at the ex. VAT price, the HX750 is actually €144 and since the order isn't over €175 you have to pay €12.30 shipping on top of that!

EDIT: Serephucus summed it up a little better :)

If i threw in 8gb ram on top of that its not lookin too bad!

hmm is this eurieka is quite competitive with priceS?

    Not on purpose.

Got an email saying I'm "entitled to correct information" when I buy a product, as such my order has been cancelled.

Right, Serephucus has me convinced. I'm going to be the test subject for his theoretically awesome monitor (which he believes is so awesome he hasn't bought it yet :pac: ).

Going to be ordering the Syncmaster S27A650D during the week :)

The replacement sounds freaking epic, thanks very much for that.

It's really lucky I can't find that for sale anywhere, because I'm extremely tempted...

It's computer stuff. There's always a replacement due soon :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

I've seen a few European sites list the monitor as being available around the 21st of this month. Not too long a wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,925 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

hmm... that definitely means waiting til after Xmas to get it though.

Is there much of a difference?

Twice as fast response time, 5 vs. 3000:1 contrast being the two mains ones. It's also got much thinner bezels, and USB ports built in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,925 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

Hmm... realistically how long before somewhere like HWVS (ie. somewhere you can actually order from) has it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

No clue, but they're usually pretty good with stuff like that. I don't think you'd get it before Christmas, but I'd think you could buy it very soon after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,925 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

Now I'm confused as to what to do again :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

LOL, well there's nothing to say you can't get the Samsung and return it if it's not to your liking. Realistically, the only thing I'd be worried about is the response time, so when you get it, play a few games, and if it's ok, you're good.

lads im wondering if im missing out on this 3D scene. i want to get another catleap, but i dont think i have the desk space for it. even 24" would be stretching it. anyone want to loan me a 120hz monitor + 3dvision?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,925 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

Damn you Serephucus. Build my hopes and then dash them :pac:

I'd say the current model will probably be fine for me. If it's taken me 5 years to buy a new monitor, I don't think I'll be worrying about bezel size for eyefinity anytime soon :)

I was thinking of ditching my 3D LG and Vision for a catleap, but to be honest, I kept thinking I'd miss 3D too much. I used to use it for everything -games and movies - but lately cos i got a 3d tv, it's only used for 3d games. But now and again, I play something in 3D, and...it's just breathtaking. Drags you into a game in way you wouldn't imagine. And I mostly play older games- Bioshock 2, Company of Heroes, etc - if you had a good GPU, I can't begin to imagine how awesome current titles look.

Samsung SyncMaster S27A650D - Ordered from HWVS :D

Quick question lads, I'm currently running an EVGA GTX 580 with ~3Gb memory. Would adding a Zotac 580 with 1536mb memory make much of a difference to my frame rates? I'm currently getting about 40fps in the likes of BF3 on ultra?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,925 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

Running mis-matched cards isn't recommended. You'd have to use CoolBits, which will force the EVGA 580 to only use 1536mb of memory so it can run in SLI. Basically you'll end up with 2 cards with the same memory as you had with 1 card.

If you're going to SLI, get another card with 3GB to get the most out of it

I'll try not to be biased here (if what I'm assuming is correct):

When you SLI the 3GB card with a 1.5GB card, you'll get 1.5GB of total framebuffer, as when in SLI both cards must read the same data. You'll lose out on the extra 1.5GB your card offers, but you'll gain a lot in terms of raw speed. NVIDIA has gotten pretty good with supporting really random stuff when it comes to SLI now, so the only thing that really matters any more is that they use the same core GPU architecture. You can have them at different clocks (in SFR though) and they'll both be used fully.

So it depends if the games you're playing use any more than 1.5GB (or if you play with lots of AA enabled). If no, then I'd go for it. If yes, I'd maybe leave it.

You're assuming correctly!! I'm not sure what memory I'm using to be honest. Is there any software out there that will show me what I'm using? Afterburner doesn't seem to offer it.

Should. Right-click anywhere in the monitoring area, hit Properties, make sure Memory usage is ticked. Bear in mind that the memory shown is memory allocated by the application, not necessarily memory in use, so it'll be slightly (though not hugely) over-estimated.

I'm wrong, Afterburner does show it. I'm going to mess around in a few of the more intensive games and see what I'm using but in Far Cry 3 I'm using between 1.1 and 1.2Gb but only getting 30 FPS. I doubt I'm using anywhere near the 3Gb in anything.

I wonder if this socket will last two turns like the last one.

Hmm... What's that "1" next to unlocked?

Superscript relating to explanations following the diagram/table probably. For anyone looking that wouldn't know what unlocked means.
