U2913WM Review, I like the display port in & out-might allow for multiple monitors off of a DisplayPort v1.2 card instead of MST hubs, which are still unreleased.

What's the story with coolers for a Trinity A10?

AMD haven't changed the CPU fan mounts in years so it can be any AM2/AM3/AM3+/FM1 etc cooler that you fancy.

feck, i really like this monitor. i love this aspect ratio too. though i would need a way bigger desk to fit that monitor+2x2312hm's.

    whats the price so?

I know its a grower, especially set up like that. Think they retail forl about 700 USD, so probably in about €650/700.

That is all on a stand by the looks of it-more likely on of their own, so should fit your desk fine, will it take the weight might be another matter-bit of weight all in I'm sure. :)

Like the look of that corsair k.board, its sad they skimped on all mechanical switches, especially the arrow buttons -as a leftie that uses same its a deal breaker for me..:(

Club 3D is starting to bring out some decent cards at competitive prices. The new 7950 royalking is a beast of an overclocker.

slight bump in vcore and people are getting 1200mhz+ and 1600 on the memory. going by Toms review, its faster than a highly OC'd 680.

on HWVS its €290, which is pretty competitive cause they start at €280 for the cheap XFX model.

Is there any reason to get a 7970 over one of these if it OC's so well?

Keep in mind: it's stil a silicon lottery. Though I would go for that 7950 myself too. That's some damn bargain!

the 7970 really isnt worth the price premium. neither is anything nvidia atm (says the gtx 690 owner).

what res are you playing at?

it depends how much you value your money. its a €290 card that competes @ €550 levels. get 2.

as SH says though, its always a lottery. most =! everyone OCIng like a demon on ruffies.

I play at 2560x1440, I do have 2 6950s atm but I am looking to get out of crossfire as soon as possible, too many little annoying things (like having to disable crossfire for some older games or games not exactly working well on release (skyrim for example)).

I think I might wait until the next series of GPUs and see how they compare, depends on how much I could sell my 6950s for.

Yes. Arma2 is definitely intensive. BF3 would be the same if you play that too?

That's the plan so far, just need to save up some money and find out if my friend is willing to buy one of my cards.

Asrock FM2A75M-ITX motherboard has come in stock in HWVS in the last few minutes. Looks great!

    http://lb.hardwareversand.de/DDR3/70781/ASRock+FM2A75M-ITX%2C+FM2%2C+ITX.article

Good price as well, at €76.

By the way, does anyone know anything about the FM2 athlons? Specifically the X4 750k, at €71. Is it just a 5800k (clocked down 3.4ghz) sans the 7660d? If so, it sounds like a good buy :)

Very little info on them, apparently they are they are just B-Grade Trinity dies with a failed GPU part, seem to have the same cache sizes etc.

It looks like the LG 21:9 (same panel presumeably) will be around the €530 mark.

    http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=ECE2614096

That's actually not bad for something that they are probably making in tiny numbers compared to 16:9 panels.

Absolute noob at this stuff but I've recently inherited a Voodoo Rage F:5 PC. I've decided I'd like to get it up to speed if I can, get it working for gaming. I've always been a console gamer but I figure that this is the push I need to move into the PC gaming realm. Is anything salvageable out of this spec list?
    • CPU: AMD FX-55 OC @2.7 GHz
    • Mptherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE
    • RAM Size: Ballistix 406 MB PC4000
    • Video Card 1: Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
    • Video Card 2: Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
    • Voodoo Drive Size: 74GB SATA 10,000RPM
    • Data Drive Size: 250GB SATA 7200RPM
    • Data 2 Drive Size: 250GB SATA 7200RPM
    • Optical Drive Bay 1: Pioneer DVR-109 DVD-RW
    • PCI slot 3: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS

I reckon most of this needs to be upgraded, am I right? Just looking for some advice on what to go for. My budget would be fairly decent as I'd be buying over a period of around 3 months. Maybe €1000. Could stretch further. Just hoping that some of the stuff could be used. Would be playing games like BF3, Skyrim etc.

Sell everything, and get something else (or keep that one; some of that stuff is antique territory). Not worth sinking any money into something so old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,906 ✭✭✭✭PhlegmyMoses

Expected as much. Would the case itself be okay to keep? Looks a bit like this:

    20041101_CAS-ATX-VOO-RAGE_01.jpg

Looks like I'll have to do a lot of research on this to understand what I need but I suppose everyone needs a project. :p

Again: old. Probably top-mounted PSU, meaning that's not ideal for airflow, and probably comes with fairly bad 80mm fans, which won't move a lot of air, and are probably very noisy.

I wouldn't even keep the hard drives as a boot drive as the performance has probably gone to crap on them. They would be grand for storing files on though.

Cheers man, had a feeling it was a non-starter when the only reviews I could find of the PC itself were from 6/7 years ago Guess it's back to the drawing board. Suppose €1000 would get me something decent.

€1,000 is a nice budget to work with. Google "how to ask for computer build help" and post a new thread with answers to the questions and we'll sort you out.
