The main two things the immigration officers want to ensure is that you're not going over there with the intention of living there, and that you're not a drug trafficker.

If you have your story straight and tell the truth you'll be fine. Print off the schedule of the WSOP and explain to the immigration officer that is why you have so much money. Just don't expect him to believe you're a tennis coach that carries around 30k or whatever. Tell them that you're being staked if you don't want to say you won it yourself, but I don't think that would be a problem. Just don't use the word "professional" poker player.

Whatever you do though, DO NOT try to bring it over and not declare it. If it's found you won't be let into the country, they'll take it off you, and will most likely start some sort of criminal investigation.

Also don't put it on your credit card with the intention of withdrawing it once you're over there, the charges are absolutely criminal. Wiring it over to the cage is your other option, but you'd want to get working on that soon as those transfers can take up to a few weeks. Also if you're doing that be sure to exchange it with your bank, ie wire over dollars not euros, but that's fairly obvious.

Coming back is not a problem, just tell them the truth. If it's any sizeable amount of money get a letter from the casino saying you won it there. As you know I'm sure, you don't have to pay tax on gambling winnings in Ireland, so there's no issue there.

I'm assuming you'll be playing alot of tourneys stevie, so when you get there you should go straight to the Bellagio with your passport and get them to sort out an ITIN number for you. The cage should do it no problem. Just write it down in your passport then or whatever and it means that you won't have half your tourney winnings withheld for tax purposes.

Also, if for any reason you're worried that you might not be admitted to the States, for past visa infringements or whatever, make sure that you fly out of Dublin. It's the only city in the world where U.S. immigration is processed prior to departure. That way you find out if you're gonna be refused before you leave, and can avoid the two 8 hour flights and possible sojourn in a prison cell.

I only made one cc withdrawal and there was no excessive charge, just the standard ATM charge ($3 on $800 i think). What do you mean by 'absolutely criminal'.

If you want to withdraw anything over the daily withdrawal limit of an ATM (which is quite likely for a poker player as that's only around $800), then you have to go through the cage and they charge between 3 and 5% for those transactions. So if you're withdrawing $10k to play the M.E. that's 400 or so gone. Pretty huge.

You can get a lot of cash on your person in €500 notes.
After all this is what they are for.
You probably need to order them in the bank usually a week in advance.

you wont even see €50,000 in €500 notes

I'd venture to guess it'd be a bit harder to get a US business (bank or casino) to accept a €500 note. They don't see enough of them and they would be suspect then as counterfeits.
