I know the whole recruitment thing is up in the air and a long way off happening, but does anybody have a copy of the application form. just curious to have a look through it to see the kind of questions that are on the form.

Publicjobs.ie is your best bet for that, go to Campaign Update and then in Process Campaigns and it should be there somewhere

its can help in some case's yeah i spose. But a 'Degree' in 'arts' wont mean a thing.

Not true. A degree is a degree. Im specialising in legal science through ARTS. Guess what? It got me through the interview of Garda Reserve. And will help me when I go for real thing

You advance through the ranks on your performance etc so just e a good hard worer and you will have better propects ..... not by what degree you have. A degree just means you wil go up on the pay scale and its something you will always have behind you .

Hey I think you are able do your sergeants exams quicker if you have a degree

im full of questions for this thread :) i know this has been asked in sorts a thousand times but i cant find a solid answer. I have a very young child so with this is in mind would they be more accomodating with phase 2 and 4 ( would they put me within a reasonably commutable distance)

I am in same boat as you would need to be near home for them phases.

i dont have a degree, and guess what ! i got through the Interview and people with degree's didnt.

Dosent really mean much, does count but its not the be all and end all.

Re: Cousin thing, its a bit of hearsay isnt it? ie. My Cousin couldnt do it because she applied and it it was full, but she has a degree.

    Works both ways :P

    I have a question.

What's the story with character witnesses etc?

I'm fighting a court battle with my boss of five years, and he's the only realy full time boss I've had but I obviously can't expect him to give me a good reference.

    What should I do?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 430 ✭✭da__flash

sorry but what has this to do with joining AGS :pac:

but to answer your question get a friend to be your charcter witness or else a part time boss you had. all you need is someone you have had dealings with. . . .

Do you think a change in Government in the near future (within 6 months) make any difference to Recruitment for AGS.

I am not really sure if it would have a negative, positive or no impact to be honest.

If the money isn't there the money isn't there I guess. I couldn't find anything worth talking about in terms of Fine Gael policy on Garda numbers/service etc... (assuming that Fine Gael would be/form part of the next government).

It will be intersting to see how that pans out in the coming while.

well if theres no money how did the goverment find all the billions to bail out anglo irish which is a builders bank and like look at the weekend the payin for the f*** up with the leavin cert. . No one knows what going on and its very depressin :(

It should have a good change.
Society tends to need more police in recessionary times.

We are in a recession at the moment and the current Government have implemented the moratorium.

It's more to do with Government policy really and the availability of funds. Would Fine Gael or Labour consider policing to be a priority portfolio?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 458 ✭✭I_am_Jebus

I can't find any policy documents relating to AGS numbers from Fine Gael.

The only one available for Labour is from MAy 2007 (before the last election)

    http://www.labour.ie/policy/listing/11782055801952912.html

They say they would increase Garda numbers by 2,000 over the 5 year term. Thats not a lot really and isn't hugely different to what the current Govt wanted to achieve. But obviously the economic climate has changed since then.

The calling of a general election might give a clear indication as to what the political parties are going to "promise" over the next few years.

Interesting Fact just found Guy's.And its sobered up alot of rumours
43% of the ordinary rank "GARDA" are elligable fo retirement in the next
5 years!.From Jan to April there have been just under 200 retirements
from AGS.And a leading Fianna Fail politician fears that this trend will rise
do the maths Guys thats 600 retirements this year if the trend continues
fact of the matter is this foce is not well equipped to absorb these sort
    of retirements!.

I think we will have a recruitment campaign sooner than expected!.
I can't name the politician because the Nog will give me another warning.
On a final note guys maybe it's a good thing that were not Gardai yet I
mean who would want to serve under the Current Commissioner of AGS.
This man "another YES man appointed by The current party
in government"did not even give of the slightest bit of protest over the
governments plans to scrap excellerated recruitment. When even his most
senior officers including the GRA said that this would severely hinder AGS
of providing a top class Policing Service!.

ya, I really think that its likely that there'll be a recruitment campaign sooner than expected...i think our best bet is to pray for a general election!! :D It's hard to know what to believe anymore!!!!

its hard to know what to believe theses with the way the country is:( but if we wish hard enough we might get a recuritment drive :pac::D:D

A recruitment drive is overrated. You'l only be left stuck in limbo for years if theres a recruitment drive soon, not knowing when you'l be called to do the next phase and so unable to plan anything just in case. Youre better off not being in the system until theyre actually ready to take you into Templemore. Go to college, go abroad, get on with your life til the government come to their senses. You could be in for a long wait for that though!
