It was always the case, anyway, the moratorium has yet to be lifted and at the moment god only knows when the government will lift.
Seems at this stage they are only advertising to advertise to keep the people and the press off their backs

and also to gauge numbers of people interested in applying to have adequate resources in place when it is officially announced.

I don't tink they have advertised this for show. And regards to people waiting since 2007 I think this is a myth Definately 2008 yes but 2007 people still waiting I find it hard to believe as two of my mates applied in 2008 and one is in Mill Street and the other in Clondalkin Garda stations' I know background checks take a while.

From speaking to inside sources they have indicated that they will be taking in APORXIMATELY 400-500. So I can't see them just advertising for the sake of it. And all indications have been pointing towards this month when they officially take in applications for "Garda Trainee 2010".

Hi I have only been on this a few times and I'm just looking for information on how to apply for the next campaign 2010...

I realise that it will be months before I even get threw all the stages and be lucky enough to get excepted.

But I was wondering someone out there had information on:

    (1) How does the recruitment process work?

    (2) Does anyone have an application form from the last recruitment?? I just wanna look at it to see what information they are looking for from an applicant, so I am prepared for when the campaign opens again... If you had the application form could you please PM me please!! I was wondering if you could send it to me, just to use as a guide!!

Also I'm just looking for what people think about the recruitment?? I know it's all hearsay but just curious of what people are thinking??

I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me!!

Best of Luck to everyone who wants to apply and thats half way threw it already!!

Yes I dont think youll get the form until the campain starts. Its usually up on their website once a campaign is open. Its nothing exciting anyway. Your best off not looking at it until you have to! Its tedious filling it out

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me out with this question please!!

Last year i went to america for the summer and before i went, the bank offered me a credit card, so i took it cos it was handy to buy things online like even my tickets to america, but while i was over there on the J1 i kind found it hard to find work and then started using my credit card to help pay things to keep me going while i was over there. But when i got back i lost my job and i was in college in Dublin and had no money to pay back my credit card company. so i rang them up and told them but i paid as much as i could and missed a few payments but when i missed a lot of payments i think they said my details had been sent/forwarded to the C.R.O.I. (Credit rating of Ireland) Like i only owed them €500 or so but i paid it straight away after that when i just borrowed the money from family.

But what I'm trying to ask people is will this affect my chances of being selected from the next campaign for the guards like (e.g. background checks etc)

Would the guards not take you on if someone had this in there background??

Does anyone know?? Id really appreciate your help!!

I'm a decent guy, i have never been arrested in my life and never got points on my licence or ever got into trouble with the guards ever before.

I really wanna join the guards so much, it's my dream and goal in life. I really feel passionate about helping people out and making a difference no matter how small it is.. I know that sounds cheesy but it' true!!

    Thank You in advance!!!

I think this day in age, the way things are everyone has debt problems..
I'm sure as long as your trying to make payments and have some sort of agreement in place that you stick to, you should be ok
    However,
I don't know the official stance but the commissioner made a statement a few months back that Guardia would be dismissed for debt problems due to economic down turn and pay cuts....
Common sense has to prevail in such circumstances

The 'embargo' has NOT been lifted, permission for this intake has come from the minister of Finance, as has the recent cadet intake and current Army General Enlistment. These all have to be individually approved. AGS no longer gets to decide when it recruits and after this intake there's no telling when the next will be

Well the embargo for Garda recruitment has been lifted, if only temporarily. A new intake has been approved for before the end of the year and also a new campaign has been approved for new applicants. The point I was making was that because of this, things will move a lot quicker than they have been for the last two years when there was no intakes whatsoever or no new campaigns.

    I'm still in college so probably won't be applying this time around, but just for future reference;

I moved to Belgium when I was 11 and went to school in Brussels, so I didn't sit the Leaving Cert, but I did do the European Baccalaureate. Would you reckon it'd be an acceptable substitute?
Irish is an official language of the EU so I was able to do it as my second language (got an A1). A2 in Maths, English and French. CAO viewed all these as honours level when determining my points. (Also when applying to Irish universities, I was obliged to sit the Leaving Cert Honours French exam when applying to the CAO, getting an A1)
Reckon the Minister of JELR would view these as acceptable/if acceptable would preference be given to a Leaving Cert holder?

Also, I'm currently completing a Diploma in Irish alongside my degree, would this be viewed favourably or just seen as an add on without any real benefit?

It sounds pretty likely that these exams would be recognised as equivilent to the Leaving Certificate, but the only way you can be sure would be to contact the NQAI and check with them. If it is recognised as equivilent and you have pass grades in maths and 2 languages- at least one to include English or Irish, then you should be ok.
Incidentally though, AGS will have to send away your qualifications to the NQAI during the application process and to the best of my knowledge this can delay your interview results and therefore your application, significantly. In view of this it might be worth your while to apply this time around even if you do plan to finish college first. That's just a suggestion though.
Best of luck with it anyway and welcome to the forum.

    Hasn't been lifted,
Ahern said it will be lifted almost 3 months ago, when he was getting slated from GRA and press, and promised an intake and a new campaign but the government have to this date refused to sanction either of these.
They'll approve intakes in Defence forces and prison services and seems to me like they were playing hard ball with the Croke Park agreement.
Hopefully now with that passed they will ease up and come through on their promises but until you see an advertisement, get a text/e-mail or hear of someone getting a call to Templemore the moratorium stays in place.
Wouldn't be like a politician to break a promise now would it:D

In the governments defence, they did state before the end of the year, so there has been no promises broken yet.

In fairness it's all good has a good point but Geansi's is bang on target there!. And I wouldn't be one to defend the government..I can understand why they are recruiting prison officers as the situation that came to light in the weeks up till now point out serious flaws in the prision service, but, to take on army applications and reduce Gardai, teachers etc is a disgrace this country is in need of more Gardai you see them pulling AGS out of Dublin airport to plug gaps in Dublin stations shows the scale of the problem.

With military combat missions and peace keeping missions ending throughout the world and the less need for troops it's baffling to wonder why we need more soldiers? I still think that they will advertise this month for fresh applications. We are at the bottom of the the pile of people ready to go into the Garda college so it's inevitable that there will be a campaign soon.

In fairness, the Army has been crippled in the last few years, with morale at a serious low as well as the numbers, they are seriously undermanned.

Peace-keeping missions will always exist, its just a matter of the money for getting the troops there. There is talk of overseas next year again.

But with regards the AGS,its baffling why they took so long to recruit. Great to see they will be taking numbers on. Its not really an area of the public sector that should be ignored for so long.

I'm sure something will happen but whether its this side of Christmas or not is another thing.....
I know the prison service is under staffed (as is AGS) but they'll have less prisoners with more crime unless things change soon.
As for the defence forces recruiting....
Can't understand why they are recruiting for the third time since the moratorium came in, its a waste of money.
The government need to start looking closer to home for peace keeping missions and defending their own people and streets from crime

Localwomaniser I don't agree with your beliefs on the army "undermanned". Undermanned for what? We are not defending our country from outside aggression we are not engaged in military operations anywhere throughout the globe. If we be honest as bad as Ireland is we don't require the army on our streets so if anything we are over strength.

There is over 9,000 Irish troops I'd say there is a need for about half that number at the current situation as the only activities the army is engaged in is cash transits and the defense of Portlaoise prison. Army are upset about cut-backs AGS has seen it's fair few most notably the abolition of the "Accelerated Recruitment". The only viable reason I can see as to maintain the defense forces at such level is the threat of dissident republicans kicking off again.

    hey guys

been reading alot off posts from previous years about people who applied for the gardai and the recruitment process for them took up to 6 months.
If this rumour of the 7th is true how quickly will this recruitment process take, bearing in mind i read that new recruits would be starting in templemore by end off this year?

also anyone know how many trainees will be recruited during this recruitment drive?

    Many thanks

I suggest you read the posts on here (dont know what ones you've been reading) and will find there is no deffinite answer to anything you asked and there are already about 350 waiting on a panel ahead of anybody hoping to apply.

    Hi dboyle.
Over the past few years there has been an accelerated recruitment drive to get Garda numbers up. This means they took in alot more recruits than normal, and got them in as quickly as possible. Last year, however the government placed a moratorium on Public Sector, including Garda Recruitment. It has been stated, as you have said, that there will be an intake by the end of the year, and also a new recruitment drive, however the accelerated recruitment drive is no more.
To become a Garda there is a rigorous Recruitment process in place, which involves Aptitude Testing, Formal Interview- as well as Report Writing and Verbal Reasoning testing on the same day, Interviews with local Sergeant and then with District Superintendent, Background checks on you and your family, Medical Examination and Physical Competence Test. This takes a significant amount of time from application to completion of Recruitment Process, at which time you will be placed on a panel should you pass each and every stage. Once on this panel, you may be offered a position as Garda Trainee (once the Garda Commissioner has no objections) when a position opens up, and usually you will be offered a position in order of when you were placed the panel.
Before the moratorium, there was a recruitment drive in place and as such there are now approx 300 people either on the panel, or nearing the end of the recruitment process. The next intake that you have read about in the media, will be made up of these people who have been waiting 2 and a half years to get to Templemore. After which AGS will need a panel from which to recruit from in future intakes. The new recruitment drive will help form this panel. In other words, your chances of making the next intake are very very slim, however that does not reflect your chances of becoming a member of AGS. Patience is a virtue, and one that is needed in bucket loads for this process. The general consensus is to Apply, put the head down, keep your nose clean and should you pass each and every stage you will get there eventually. But get on with your life in the mean-time.
Best of luck with it, and welcome to the forum ;)

to be honest thats what i thought, surely there is a talent pool from previous recruitment drives that will get priority.
But fingers crossed new recruits might sneak in

Being realistic, you won't have even completed the recruitment process by the time the next intake opens. If you are crossing fingers for anything if should be that A) You manage to pass every stage or B) That you make the intake after next because even that would be at a push. Hoping to 'sneak in' is setting yourself up for a fall unfortunately.
